Valerie Gee It's pretty obvious. Ruff is a cartoon, he can't just answer immediately. The animators have to animate first. Then the kids have to pretend like Ruff is actually on the TV.

Huh, I don't really remember Zoom so I didn't make the connection, I realized the show was fake in I think season 4 when they were on the """deserted island"" and there were people in the background thus instantly giving away the fact that the island wasn't actually deserted. but man, the kids were just characters too?? I thought at the very least they were normal kids that volenteered and knew it was fake but were into it for the story and the whole scavenger hunt part well that just ruins my childhood even more

Not all of it. From Wikipedia: The fourth camera simply captured Conroy doing his lines as Ruff in the audio booth. The kids heard him in the studio and he heard their reactions in his headphones. Ruff's lines were the only lines that were scripted out, though he would sometimes ad-lib an answer to a question or comment from a FETCHer. Once the lines were recorded, the show went into editing, where the challenges were sorted into the show order. Then they were sent to Jim Conroy in New York City, to voice dialog for Ruff's animation. Once that was complete, it was sent back to WGBH where editors placed audio clips of the animated characters. Once all of this was done, the episode was sent to Global Mechanic to animate the show.

Ruff: You know I bet Arthur doesn't have to deal with stuff like this! ha ha! he referred to Arthur!

Rushing home at 3:30 pm just to watch this. I loved this show so much. 😂

generally, the animations are made after the sound is recorded anyway since it's easier to animate to sound then to do it the other way around.

pbskids.org still has the Fetch! website, but it’s extremely outdated, there are no videos (the page doesn’t even fit the screen right anyway), and you have to either click on The Ruff Ruffman Show or Humble Media Genius and delete everything after “/ruff” to access it. They also took it off the PBS Kids Video App, and it’s still on my station’s app (with Thomas for some reason) but the link goes to a blank page.

i remember i begged my mom to skip 'naptime' bc my sister always got to watch and i didn't. anyway we loved it and it became a regular part of our day. i always wished i could be on the show!!
