Fetch! - Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The power went out in our house so we took advantage of the downtime by playing some fetch in the back yard. Sadie played ball, Violet pretended to be a cow and munched the grass. Sadie & Vi have a facebook page! / sadievioletsbt

I love the little cow grazing in the background. Love these girls!

Slow and steady :) I think mid to high 30's will look great on a 16" stafford. With a flat hand, you should feel a little bit of rib. I dont know if your dog likes fruits and veggies but if she does, veggies are a great way to help them feel full but are low in calories. Green beans and baby carrots are awesome. My girls love everything so they aren't picky at all.

Mine's the same, she eats everything, so I do replace some of her meat (she is raw fed) with veggies every few days and also use it as training treats! Seems to work well! Have also increased her exercise, we now jog together and she runs next to my bike and we recently started agility as well so hopefully that will get her nice and fit (and me) :)

Thanks for that! I think I'm aiming for around 36-37 lbs because my girl is 16" to the should and a little longer than the standard. We started off at 47 lbs a couple of months ago and she is 41 lbs at the moment so we are getting there!

I taught Sadie a hand command. She would bring the ball back and make me pick it up which got real old. It was was easy to shape with Sadie because she will pick up the ball and hit me with it if I ignore her, so I ignored her then clicked the clicker when she picked it up and made contact with me. Then I only rewarded when she hit the hand, then I only rewarded when she actually put it IN the hand.

Both girls are 14" at the shoulder and weigh 28 lbs, but the weight is going to depend on the individual dog's build and height. Some are more bully (so heavier) while some are more terrier in build (lighter). I know some amazingly fit Staffords in agility who weigh around 35 lbs, but they're also 16" at the shoulder.

Your dogs are adorable! My family got a dog just after I moved out, she is a golden retriever. When we play fetch, she will just hang to the ball. I have to go to her, and be pretty stern in my voice to get her to drop it. How did you tech them to drop it in your hand? :)

Your staffords looks great! How do you keep them so fit? Can I also ask about their measurements and weights. My staffy is on a diet at the moment and trying to work out what weight I am aiming for.
