LGA = weight above 90th%
Diagnosed with fetal ultrasound
Risk factors: (gestational) diabetes, obesity, maternal weight gain, advanced maternal age, male female, genetic disorders of overgrowth (Beckwith– Wiedemann syndrome)
Macrosomia (literally big body) - baby weighing over 4000-4500 g
Complications include shoulder dystocia and other birth trauma, jaundice, poor APGAR, hypoglycemia in neonatal period
SGA = weight below 10th%
Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) = fail to achieve potential size
Symmetric:asymmetric → 20%:80%
Asymmetric = abdomen smaller than head
Fundal height 3 cm smaller than expected
Risk factors: maternal htn, diabetes, SLE, CVD; placental infarction, abruption, velamentous cord (insert into fetal membranes, travel between amnion and chorion
Causes: teratogens, smoking, alcohol, cocaine, htn, preeclampsia, infections (CMV, rubella, etc), anemia, multiple gestations, genetic/chromosomal abnormalities, poor placental perfusion, poor nutrition, anatomic abnormalities.
Identify cause with karyotype, ultrasound, infection screens
Monitor baby with ultrasounds, nonstress tests, doppler velocimetry
Bed rest not found to improve outcomes
Induce delivery if fetus in distress, mom’s health is in danger, baby continues to drop off growth curve
Smaller infant has greater morbidity and mortality
Birth weights:
LBW low birth weight - less than 2500 g (5 lb 8 oz)
very low birth weight VLBW - less than 1500 g (3 lb 5 oz)
extremely low birth weight ELBW - less than 1000 g (2 lb 3 oz)

I am 30 weeks done growth scan and baby gestational weight is slightly more than normal gestational weight ,, why this happen although diabetic range is normal

Thank you. how about for asian babies esp filipinos. My ob kept saying my baby is small i guess they based it on australia standards

asian babies are smaller. but western doctors keep refusing that is the case. i say dont worry about it but i would be condemned by everyone.
What does percentile mean ?
My baby' HC falls at 5th percentile in 27 weeks .. is it good or bad??? Pls reply m worried
My baby is 86 percentile at 21 weeks so what i can understand from this?

My unborn son, is 81 % for head size or percentile.. can someone explain that to me ? Should i be worried ?

Hi, I'm 21 weeks and 3 days and the ultrasound showed abdominal circumference of 190 mm which fits 23 weeks and 6 days. The doctor said not to worry but I am freaking out a little. Could it mean a problem? Does it ever 'correct' itself? Both me my husband are super skinny people btw, with no obesity in the family.. I'm so confused as to why this would be. (other measurements - the weight is 516 grams, head cir is 189 mm - fit for 21.1 weeks) Also, my belly is quite small for 21 weeks but I also worry if this means my belly would grow enormous?
Why would baby have femur Length in 3rd percentile but everything else is normal!!!
