Fetal Ductus Venosus Doppler Ultrasound Interpretation
The Ductus Venosus Ultrasound is a specific ultrasound, which measures the velocity of blood flow through ductus venosus. The abnormal Ductus Venosus Doppler show either Decreased or Reversed A-wave.
The ductus venosus allows oxygenated and nutrient rich venous blood to flow from the placenta to the myocardium and brain. Increased impedance to flow in the fetal ductus venosus is associated with certain abnormalities like fetal aneuploidies, cardiac defects and other ad-verse pregnancy outcomes. So Ductus Venosus Doppler is a useful tool to detect these abnormalities.
The typical Doppler flow waveform of the ductus venosus shows the continuous flow of the triphasic forward throughout the cardiac cycle with a highest peak during the systole represented by S-WAVE, another one peak is during the diastolic filling represented by D wave, and the third wave is A wave which represents the atrial contraction.

This Channel is providing knowledge in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Obstetrics is related to medical and surgical care before, during, and after a woman gives birth. Obstetrics focuses on caring for and maintaining a woman’s overall health during maternity. This includes pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Gynaecology on the other hand focuses on women’s bodies and their reproductive health. It includes the diagnosis, treatment, and care of women’s reproductive system. This includes vagina, uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Gynaecology also includes screening for and treating issues associated with women’s breasts. Gynaecology is the overarching field of women’s health from puberty through adulthood. It represents most of the reproductive care you’ll receive during your lifetime. If you become pregnant, you’ll need to go to an obstetrician.
