That’s the first $500 Ekit I’ve Ever seen with a hihat stand setup. Yeah it’s not that same as the $2800 Roland digital hihat, but it’s so much better than just having a foot switch. Nice review

That's what stood out to me at first as well.

I have had e kits for 35 years. My experience has been primarily with Roland but did have a professional grade ddrum kit in the 90s. My main use was for home practice and occasional gigs. Playing my DW kits weekly in church. The last six years I’ve played mostly exclusively Roland kits in church. ( different church) I purchased the new VAD 706 kit and the church did as well. The closest to playing on an acoustic kit. Digital hihat, snare and ride are huge upgrades and the acoustic sized pads look and feel more like my favorite DW and Ludwig’s.

I just had a chance to play the DWe kit last week at Sweetwater and the technology on the top end of e drums is certainly coming along. Was very impressed.

Awesome video as always! I did a full acoustic to electronic conversion and hacebr regretted it in the least. In fact im planning to comvert my 13/16/24 kit now because those are the sizes i like and i use my electronics way more than acoustic. I get actual drum sizes and using Superior Drummer 3 I get incredible sound and dynamics. I don't miss my acoustics at all. And with the decades expansion from toon track i get to play Jeff Porcaros ACTUAL favourite snare from the drum doctors that he played on so many records and tuned to the way he liked it. Its so cool lol

Thanks Mike. Another good video. I have a Roland TD - 15 kit that I’ve had for many years now. I like using my e-kit for practicing before musicals that I do. Also, I have used that kit on several musicals because of the ability to assign different sounds to not just the heads of the pads, but also the rims. That makes it convenient to trigger sounds like gongs and sleigh bells and gun shots and timpani. Etc. but, because this is an electronic kit, and it has a computer, I always have eating in the back of my mind that this thing is going to reboot or have some serious issues. That’s not good in the middle of a show.

That seems like a great application for them, but yeah still some dependability concerns for theater work.

Check out the EFNote kit. The name review was darn good. Best sounding one in the higher dollar range.

Here’s the short and curly of my personal experience of playing an electronic drum set for 10+ years: 1. Fine for light practicing, but _detrimental_ for actual learning. I cannot stress this enough. Even the best e-drum sets will ruin your technique. It will take you ages to relearn to play acoustic drums. Ironically, going the other way, i.e. acoustic to electronic, is fine, and takes minimal adjustment. In many ways, an electronic set is much more forgiving than an acoustic one, so certain imperfections in your playing will be masked off. 2. Forget about nuanced playing (i.e. jazz). Great for pop/rock, though. In fact, probably ideal for the less nuanced styles (less hassle and much more control in post production, especially if using MIDI and drum sound libraries). 3. The only option for situations where noise is an issue. 4. Tons of fun experimenting with unusual (read: FX) sounds.

I'd say point #3 is really factor #1 for most people who get into drumming and get an electric kit, but I think you make nice points.

One of the things I've noticed about all of these entry level e-kits is the lack of height adjustment. I'm only 5'9" and I felt huge over the Alesis kit my friend got for his kid. This one looks no different.

Yeah, that was probably my biggest gripe, but I ended up giving this to my young nieces, and it's definitely got room to grow for them.

I started playing on a NUX dm210 and the size is much bigger then this and more sturdy. It really depends what you get, the low cost end is pretty bad tho. All the Alesis kits at around 500 seem very much like toys.

Mike, thank you for sharing this review of the e-kit with us. I have only played on one once, and I have considered buying one ever since. I think your review as very well done and very fair to both the company and the potential consumers. Thanks again.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

Ty for your review. I appreciate your review based on your experience point of view. For the price do you think you could purchase an equivalent acoustic set?

  • @malonedrum

For $500, I couldn't imagine finding a decent beginner acoustic kit new. Maybe used, but also, I find it challenging to define the "equivalent" on two very different instruments (acoustic vs electric drums).
