@@DanJackson1977 I don't think he's a bad friend. He was really trying to give Cameron a good day knowing they're coming to the end of their time together before they leave for college, and maybe forever. He knows what Cameron's life is like. He was honestly trying to help and wasn't going to take No for an answer. Ferris does have tunnel vision, though. haha

He wasn't a bad friend, just self centered. Cameron was basically suicidal and this outing gave him a backbone to face his problems (by sacrificing a poor innocent vintage car), and it was implied ferris knew how to save him all along. I figured with ferris luck, charisma, popularity, confidence and deviousness if we came across him in 30 years he'd be either homeless bum who peaked as a teen or president. Hes too extreme. He'd either tank horribly or rise to the top of everyone. No in between. Cameron in 30 years...a therapist.

Agreed. He didn't seem afraid of physical abuse. Like his own "illness", it's an extension of what he's experiencing with his parents, and more specifically, his father -- emotional neglect and mental suffering from the neglect. As we note, Ferris and Jeannie are extremely lucky to have amazing parents who are not only still in love with one another, but make sure they're There for their kids by being Home at the end of the day. Slone also seems to be the product of a good Home. Charlie Sheen's character...er...not so much. haha. I think Cameron will be okay after that

He loved the car not him. Spent so much time restoring it. He could done both, have the kid help him restore it and teach him his love of cars. So yeah probably neglect.
Ferris was only trying to help Cameron. He had a toxic way of doing it but he knew Cameron would never do it for himself. in the long run he was a good friend.
"They think he's a righteous dude." "Gummy bear? They've been in my pocket, they're real warm and soft." This is such a great film, a true classic. Loved the vid!

Those are the memories that stay with you. Everyone says you’ll never regret focusing on school and being risk free, but within reason, you have to make memories in your life. Nothing too crazy so you flunk out of school or get yourself killed, but a little frivolity is good for the soul. I regret being so afraid of my abusive father that I was always the first one in class and sat in the front row, because I knew he would ask the teacher (when I was in high school) where I sat. If he heard I sat in the back row with the kids who actually accepted my crippled, 4 eyed ass, there was a “spanking” coming, along with other punishment. He would brag to other parents about how “compliant” I was. As it turned out, I had a breakdown at the end of grade 12 and ended up on academic probation my first year old university because I’d get in my car like I was going to class and just drive all day long. Alone. I wish I had balls like Ferris. I’d probably be dead now, but it would have been at least mildly fun.

Kristy Swnason was originally supposed to be the girl on the HS payphone with Ferris. My friend and classmate Kristin Graziano ended up with that part because the shooting schedule was changed...Swanson's "Simone" role was added and written for her, since she lost the telephone scene. Most of the Chicago scenes were filmed in my neighborhood.
It's so funny how watching this as an adult gives a different reaction than when you're a teen. Saw this in the theater and all of us cheered when Ferris took the Ferrari. And I have lived my entire adult life under the philosophy of "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." As parents in the 2000s: "You know ... Ferris is a BIT of an asshole."
24:31 J dancing along to the "Twist and Shout" scene is the best thing that's ever been done in a reaction video. I first saw Ferris Bueller in '86 in Lincoln, Nebraska. I was with a group of friends, about 12 of us altogether. When "Twist and Shout" stated, we were literally dancing in the aisles.
Back in the day, "borrowing Dad's car" was a common movie plot device, right up there with "going off to college" and "trying to impress a girl."
Watched this in 1987 with family. I was 10 years old. Such a wonderful memory! My uncle LOVED the guys in the garage who stole the car! I remember laughing so hard when Mr. Rooney kept getting his foot stuck in the mud! Thanks for watching this one! And just another friendly reminder to consider watching the 1980 Oscar winner, Ordinary People. You won't regret it!
On the commentary, John Hughes said you get to see how truly strong Cameron in by the damage he does to the car, just by kicking it
This is interesting: You released this on the (don’t know exactly how many year) anniversary of the Cubs game that they went to. Cubs announcers even talked about it on air in today’s game.

My sister almost didn't graduate because of P.E. too. The school had a point system, where you could run off your points; 6 minutes for 1 point. My parents told her that she'd have to do whatever it takes to walk at graduation. My mom literally told her that she did not care if she had to commit a crime, she was going to graduate. My sister ran for 9 hours, right up until 45 minutes before graduation.

I slept all the way thru 10th grade and didn't do shit really 11th or 12 either. Graduated. Had teachers that didn't teach, couldn't teach, just babysat students. As long as you didn't bother some, you got a C. Even didn't show up for 12th grade classes at all and drove off lots. Ferris telling the audience to go home. The OG after-credits bonus scene.
idk why but one of my favorite moments in this movie is when rooney had his head in the dog door and the dog starts panting and rooney tries doing the friendly pant and the camera cuts back to the dog who switches suddenly into attack-stare. like he's saying "yeah, no. I will kill you right now." the pacing of the scene and the acting of the dog are just *perfect*
Our high school in the Chi threatened us with 3 weeks summer school if we cut & went to the Cubs opener. We also couldn't come to graduation, we'd get our diplomas in the mail. This was.a huge deal, every opening day for 3 years the joint was half empty. A friend & I faked a fight the day before the opener & got a automatic 4 day suspension. Got to meet Ernie Banks at the game.
I had an Aunt Grace when I was younger. Man, the terror I'd put that woman through whenever I'd yell Graaaace at her like Principal Rooney does lol. Would make my Uncle piss his pants laughing.
Had me dying with that Rottweiler scene "oh that's your ass" LOL

Totally awesome reaction! Bonus Respect Points for spotting the OG Buffy 👍 Gas would've been around $.85/gallon then, so probably about $25 bucks to fill the tank of that Ferrari. I had the 12" single of "Oh Yeah" by Yello. I recorded it onto a cassette tape so I could play it in my car. I felt so cool 😎 Edie McClurg (the secretary) also plays a character named Chastity Pariah in _Elvira, Mistress of the Dark._ It's grade DD 80's camp.
Ya this is a classic among classics. One of the most loved movies of all time. Nonstop referenced to this day.
I like the way that EOM picked up on Ferris "breaking the fourth wall" and how he started looking out at us during his reaction with those same amused Ferris expressions.
"Oh, thanks for playing because that's your ass, Mr. postman" hahahahahaha I am dying!!
This is why we will always love Matthew Broderik
Matthew Broderick also starred in the remake of The Producers. A Mel Brooks movie.
Gonna have to fire up a bowl for this one. This movie was epic in our youths. Anything John Hughes did, you knew someone who went to school where they filmed, or lived in the rich suburb where the main family lived. Cameron's house looked A LOT like my rich friends' houses...... Love from Chicago.
Not only did Cameron let Ferris take the car to pick Sloan up, but then they go from there, in the suburbs, to downtown Chicago, that’s over 60 miles there and back. By the time they were done running around, they’re probably looking at 70+ miles more on that car.
Fun fact: the school Ferris and his friends go to in the movie is the same school where the Breakfast Club takes places as well. The movies share the same school
I love dogs so much, my daughter saves animals and works in animal shelters and helps pay for people who can't afford to care for their animals. My mom has 2 pitbulls and a very tiny dog and I have a dog my whole family have dogs.
“He about to have you barking at the moon, girl!” OMG!! 😂😂
Von Steuben Day in pop culture -- The Chicago parade was in the 1986 John Hughes movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, even though other movie details indicate that the film takes place near the end of the school year, not in September or on a Saturday. But it's a real parade that happens every year in various larger cities around America.

Brian Vetter: I'll by that. The more I watch this movie, the more I think I like Cameron's whole character arc. I dunno. Maybe when we're really young, we associate ourselves with Ferris because he's everything we want to be and so we project ourselves onto his character. But, as we move through the world as adults, we really start to see Cameron and begin to view him as closer to who we actually are. It's kinda like that line in the movie JFK, with Nixon talking about how the public saw Kennedy versus how they saw him. Something like -- When they look at him (JFK), the people see who they want to be. When they look at me, they see who they are. Only not as dramatic for This movie. haha

I had a friend who almost didn’t graduate from college because of PE. The funny thing was he went to college on a football scholarship and was assistant coach for the high school that was associated with the college. He coached football and basketball for them instead of taking PE and they were going to hold him back for not taking the class. When I was growing up if you were sick enough to stay home you stayed in bed with no tv just books if you could read. Also if you stayed home you maybe got to go out to the sofa after school. It worked pretty good for all of us except my brother who was very happy staying home and reading.

JL - been awhile, good to see ya. That shirt is fantastic. Was only just now able to read the “Bob” and figure it out. Now I gotta look for one.
This is a great movie. I always liked it. The credits system in high school is a scam. They held me back in the 11th grade because I didn't have enough credits because I dropped an auto technician program that I realized I wasn't cut out for and it wouldn't have been fair for me to stay in it when anyone else would've been kicked out. I turned 18 during August of that year so I decided to drop out. I always hated school and that was just the final nail in that coffin. They already held me back in the first grade and I just couldn't go through that again. Realistically you aren't going to remember anything they teach in school beyond the basics and some random obscure knowledge that you'll probably never make use of and I already learned all that I needed. I stick by that decision 14 years later. School was a prison and I've been free ever since.
Wow. Shake it up baby... Twist and shout. I haven't seen anyone do the Twist for decades. Looking good my man.

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Fun Fact: Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward, who played Ferris's parents, married in real life after filming this movie. Method Actor Fact: To produce the desired drugged-out effect for his role as the drug addict in the police station, Charlie Sheen stayed awake for more than forty-eight hours before the scene was shot. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Cameron's (Alan Ruck) father's Ferrari wasn't a real Ferrari. Because it was too expensive to rent one, three replicas were made, using an MG chassis, each with a fiberglass body. The producers received several angry letters from car enthusiasts who thought the car shown was a real Ferrari that was actually wrecked. Mysterious Bus Fact: The bus scene that plays during the ending credits was a scene cut from the movie. It was meant to take place after Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) announced that she called the police and Rooney had to find a place to hide. This explains why the sky isn't dark, and why a bus is taking students home at 18 : 00 (6 : 00 PM) local time. An explanation that this could be a returning field trip is thrown about, but there's no evidence that this is the case. Either way, I like to think the scene happened at the end of the day as presented as the final humiliation of Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones).

There's a whole other movie that takes place during this movie. There's a nurse (with pluck!) that visits the house with Louie Anderson, some guy who looks like an old good caddy, and a deformed offspring of the Kool-Aid Man. There is a seriously fascinating story behind these four people. Fun Fact: Louie Anderson appears earlier in the movie, alone and delivering flowers that Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) uses to knock out the Bueller family dog.
