Autocar revisits the outrageous 730bhp Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and drives it flat out on some of Italy's best roads.
SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: kzread.info_cente...
When Autocar was asked to spend a day driving the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in Italy, Steve Sutcliffe jumped on a plane and headed out on the twistiest tarmac he could find. With a 6.3-litre V12 engine producing 730bhp at 8,500rpm and then sending it to just the rear wheels, of course he turned the traction control off. Sit back, turn up your speakers and watch Maranello's Lamborghini Aventador rival at full chat.

10 years later and I’m still enjoying Steves video of the f12. I like that he actually drives the hell outta the cars. Chris Harris too
I really love how down to earth Steve is in these videos, for me that really makes him a good test driver. Cheers from Holland.

Was just about to write the same. Super chilled and straight to the point. No daft metaphors. Exactly what you want when looking for a review with the intention of maybe buying.
This guy is my favorite car reviewer 👍 "You don't get a limousine ride but you don't get a filling remover either " 😅😅
Phenomenal and it doesn't look like a halloween costume as most supercars do.
Steve Sutcliffe is really growing on me. Well presented and heavy footed in a controlled manner. Showed it to three of my mates individually and their reactions were speechless in the way Steve drove the car. :) well done Autocar and keep em' coming.
I think you're wrong when you say 'people want a manual gearbox because they think they can change gear faster'. I don't want a manual gearbox because I think I can shift shift faster than a double clutch semi-auto box; that would be ludicrous! I like driving a manual simply for the feel of being a bigger part of the driving. I'm not just here to stamp on pedals and do a bit of steering, I enjoy the technicality of a good manual gear change and I think it feels so much more satisfying than just flicking your fingers. Disclaimer: I know 'why' manufacturers of cars that make lots of power give them flappy paddle boxes, it's perfectly logical. This is just my opinion.

Ben Dewse You're absolutely right. Mr. Sutcliffe just doesn't get it. I'll take a black 550 Maranello with a tan interior, please. It is the last great front-engined, rear-wheel-drive V12 Ferrari made, in my book. And it has the luscious classic Ferrari metal-gated manual gearbox as well. Yum!

Ben Dewse indeed Indeed I share your sentiments. All those astronomical horsepower numbers sell cars. Wealth buys a super car but it doesn’t buy driving skill.
I'm not sure what's going on right now but Mr. Sutcliffe and company are really at the top of their game right now. Great video, and what makes it great is Steve's commentary.
Great video btw guys! Love the way that it was a 7+ minute video. And I could really imagine how it must have been felt like when you were driving that car on that mountain roads.
"would I fancy a day in the F12...make sure you set a day aside for this"...he said someone asked!! Are you kidding! I would miss my own mothers funeral for this!

@@joshriver75 I love the 812, and unlike a lotta people I love the 599 as well especially with the handling pack (and different wheels ideally), but sweet lord the f12 is *italian muah sound where you put your fingertips together* I think it might be the best archetypal ferrari they've done since the 365
@joshriver75

@@jacobl6714 Yes I agree. I love the 812. A bit more than the F12 personally. Im also quite fond of the 599. My love affair of Ferrari began with the 288GTO as a youngster. If I had the means for an "affordable" Ferrari i would have to have a 355 even though they're maintenance nightmares. But im 45 now and things aren't looking so good for that spot ive been saving in my garage. Oh well..at least i still have my 1/18 diecast collection to depress me
Another great video Steve. The 599 GTO became my ultimate desired car after your review on these same streets those years ago, just loved watching you hammer the F12 on the same roads.
Awesome demonstration... Must have been a totally addictive experience... The engine is an orchestra!
this is so much fun in Forza Horizon 2 I actually prefer it over the LaFerrari (in Forza)
nice onboard perspective. i'd like more of it, because from this perspective you can really judge how this car actually drives
One of the best autocar videos so far. Great job guys!
Steve, absolutely amazing review! It makes me feel like im actually sitting in it Thank you Autocar
This is a great video. Gives an insight into how quickly the F12 covers ground without too much power sliding.
awesome driving scenes, thank you Steve.
You could lose your life driving in a car like that. At least you'll go out in style

I often think that autocar videos are a bit boring. But this one is fantastic, great driving, great sound, thank you for this !
The sound is just so amazing.
Best review of the F12 that I have seen, very good job.
A masterpiece, really
Wonderful review - thank you so much! Fantastic driving, sir.
What car and what driver ! Thank you autocar, this sound saves my day...
Unbelievable sound!
this is the most beautiful ferrari ever made.
amazing video love that f12, I must have one
At last a proper review for the car showing it's true credits. I was wondering what the hell was going on. Because when the press was invited to test drive the car at it's launch at Maranello all the reviews were absolute rubbish they just drove it around the track without giving the viewers any sense of what Ferrari has achieved with this car. It's an absolute technical masterpiece, truly mind boggling. Well done Ferrari !!!
I know that this is 7 years on...but if I see Ferrari and Steve Sutcliffe in the same video? I watch.
Your best video yet, Steve!
its a REALLY good View when you put the camera behind your back like at 5:35 for exemple !!
Best review ever of the F12 :)
That shot at 0.40 is awesome!
Haha, that was a great vid. I love how mind-blown he is
wow that is some sick handling!
scared to take the ESC off? cause im seeing tons of diff lock lol
Okay the F12 is now my favorite Ferrari! It has unseated the 599! The engine sounds like a totally different animal than what it is and that DSG helps a lots with that. The performance of this thing only validates the FMR layout, and makes the Corvette and Viper make perfect sense. the F12 is those cars taken to "12", and having an idea how awesome "awesome" is makes looking forward to the C7 Z06 and ZR-1 and Viper ACR all the tastier, for me anyway.
Drove behind one of these the other day…. Best 10 minutes of my life.
More of that onboard driving footage, please!
I think this is more enjoyable... He did say though that t's the only Ferrari he would buy! I'm drooooooling!! Can't stop watching Jeremy's video driving it in Hertfordshire!
Looks like me driving the CTS V through heavy NYC traffic on the way home from work ahah, you drive it like a video game, its scary. It littearly UNREAL.
Excellent review Steve
This is just an amazing car. Great looks and awesome sounds. Spectacular.
Awesome review as always!
Excellent video and review.
i love this car in technic details and aesthetic style
Toyota wish the LFA looked this good. You have to see this live to appreciate how awesome it is. The LFA looks like a new model Supra in person.
I loved the moment where he didn't speak and just let us enjoy the car. I could watch that car be driven all day.
I loved this video review! That's the difference between italian super cars and the others. "They" are mental, "they" have a soul that comes out from passion for detail, history and excellence, from tech innovation, from craftsmanship tradiction. P.S. I can't wait LaFerrari test!
F12. Nice car. Nice vid. But I'm not going to stop bugging Autocar about the following: Thank you for putting together the P1 v. 918 v. bike race, but you need to make a new video with a LaFerrari to complete the hybrid-hyper car trio compare, real world, and you have no excuses now because by watching other videos, I've done the homework, and I can now tell you exactly where to find one that's privately owned and up for a race so you don't have to hassle with Ferrari themselves. Watching an EVO video about a Vmax200 event, I saw there was a LaFerrari taking part in the races. The guy's number plate is "43 MAT." So the guy is there in the UK, and I'm guessing you can find him based on his number plate. The guy is obviously up for racing his example, so there you go. You had that white 918 with the red decals, the P1, and now you have the means to re-run the race with a LaFerrari involved so we can finally see it happen, and get the real world numbers/results. But try to get a fresh P1 if possible. It looks like you were using that same super-deep purple P1 every automotive journalist drove the pants off, so it probably wasn't in peak condition for the race. Anyway, there you go. All the info you need. Now please, make it happen Autocar. Finally seeing the trio go head to head to head will garner you countless views. Please! Oh, and about the F12 being the fasted front engine, rear wheel drive car: Were you speaking about production cars? If not, I'm pretty sure cars like the Shelby Daytona Coupe did speeds in the 240 range down the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans. And is this about quickness or outright top speed or both? Because I think the Mercedes McLaren SLR can run as fast as an F12. Maybe not. But anyway, again, please make the race happen. I can almost guarantee it will be your most watched video.

***** I did write to Autocar and even gave them the guy's plate number. Let's see what happens.
Driving on the high altitude roads he's driving, parts where barriers don't exist & parts where they do are flimsy ones, at the speed he's driving at with Stability turned off. You sir have balls.
Fantastic review !
Stunning car, great test
Amazing review.. Not sure why exactly, but it was amazing
Amazing machine! Still getting used to the rear, but if I did have the money I would just choose it in a color like silver/gray which looks more harmonic to me. Mechanically though, it's in a class of its own ;)
coolest intro ever!
He never stated he hated ferrari's cars. He only said he hated having to deal with an almost full on pitcrew for every aspect of testdriving their cars. As mentioned in the article he says: "it's cars are so good it doesn't need this shite"
I've never driven a Ferrari but I want to drive one so much, the praise this car gets is unbelievable!
WOW that's the nicest ferrari engine I've ever heard..Haven't heard the La ferrari at high rpm, or flat out though:):):)
Best Autocar video ever.
Beauty! Great vid.
458, California, F12 last ferraris designed by Pininfarina, still gorgeous as ever.
Thankfully, Sutcliffe got this call! Brilliant... :)
great vid. great reviewer
he did indeed, firstly in 2009 (before he wrote the article in 2011). then secondly in 2013, where it is safe to say that ferrari certainly didn't give it to him! it's also worth noting that he now owns a ferrari 599.
Look at his face when he talks about la Ferrari and the Power-to-Weight ratio - he really looks frightened, I just love it :-) It really is a great car, but is it really louder than a 599 gto? A friend has one (in grey...) and I can't believe there can be any other car louder than the gto. Besides, the gto likes also to spit fire, that's priceless^^
its an 2011 jeep wrangler rubicon... Its got huge 315/75/16 tires and heavy duty axles, itd my daily driver, my other car is a 1994 nissan 240sx s13 coupe with a rb26 skyline engine, with rb25 trans for RWD compatibility, a garrett gtx3582r turbo boosting 35psi (2.0 bar i think), all built, and lightweight..its a drift/ track car
0:21 fantastic shot. Looks like a Viper ( the snake not the car ).
Totally agree!
That engine sounds divine.
What a car and a great video
hey, there is a solid line on the tarmac !
2023? Anybody? F12>812

Super fast☝⚡⚡
Is it faster than a LFA nurbugring edition? I haven't seen any laptimes of the F12
Keep it on the road, Steve.
Steve Sutcliffe isn't some bloke ON the internet, he is a car journalist who uploads his thoughts about cars TO the internet.
Awesome!
Epic video of an epic car!
steve has one of the best jobs in the world !
The praise it gets truly is unbelievable. Check out "How Ferrari Spins" by Chris Harris...
Nice that they figured out how to setup the traction so it doesn't snap on people. But yeah, the next car is either going to be super light or 1000 HP.
What a great car! Ferrari really is on top of its game.
I'm in love to this car
Anyone know the song at the beginning?
That is the best looking "new" Ferrari ever!
dat sounddddd
You could compare them, but it wouldn't be fair to either of the cars. The F12 is a RWD front engined car while the aventador is a AWD mid engined car. Both are awesome in their own right.
Gorgeous !!!
What a car.... Ferrari build the best sportscars in the world, they are like a peice of art in every aspect. And very impressive engine! 730 Bhp 508 ft from a N/a engine!
2:21 "...but this much traction,it almost feels like you're driving the new four-wheel-drive Range Rover"
What an amazing car
Reminds me of the 2013 Viper
I imaged the day ended with Steve placing the keys on the receptions' counter top, with a pale face saying "damn", and then just walking away :)
For me, the best price/performance options are cayman S, 458 or 599 HGTE. Alas whenever I've tried to rent the ferraris to give them a proper test I always get excuses on availability and lack of stock due to mechanical/repair problems....then they try and push porsche or R8. Don't get me wrong, Aston vantage/DBS are good and jag f type might be interesting, and xk/maserati have their place but Cayman S/458/599 are so much more focused. If I want a comfy cruiser I'll get a saloon.
Things that go vroom,,,
With paddle shifters no. When flapping the paddles, it's like stepping on the clutch and switching gears at the same time and it does it in milliseconds
Well said my friend
With DCT you feel involved at 120 in the hills
I need to get me one of these!
Dear god that looks like fun
