Ferrari CRASHES on Tail of the Dragon! Motorcycle Girl solo travel vacation adventure!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

While riding through North Carolina and Tennessee on my solo motorcycle trip I saw a $350,000 Ferrari CRASHES on Tail of the Dragon! I decided to ride my 2018 ‪@harleydavidson‬ Road Glide special down to Florida from Ohio. On my journey down, I stopped in Asheville North Carolina to experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as the Tail of the Dragon! Little did I know just how much one Ferrari crash would affect my whole day!

There were several crazy things on the Dragon that used to make local news. People dressed in costumes for things like Halloween, and people riding the Dragon with barely anything on. Most of the stories were about the crashes because the negative seems to always outweigh the positive. Happy 2nd birthday for the channel and Happy Halloween!

In June this year there was a 60 for camper pulling a car behind it. 🤦‍♂️ Wish I k ew you were out there. I have all kinds of gpx routes on the Harley Ride Planner for the area. Tail of the Dragon, Moonshiner 28, Cherohalla Skyway, Devil’s Triangle. All great roads. And the best Harley dealership in the country, Smokey Mountain H-D.

Every time I rode the dragon I saw some form of accident. No exceptions. The first time I rode it, I saw a brand new street glide slid over the edge and gone down in the ravine. Rider was scratched up but no major injuries. People think it's their personal racetrack and they pay the price for it.

Way too many riders with minimal skills do it. Target fixation doesn’t affect seasoned riders, so they don’t go off the side of the hill. But newbies get focused on the edge of that road and head straight for it at 30mph.

My house is in the flight path of the medivac helicopters picking up injured riders on the Dragon. On sunny summer weekends those medivac choppers are flying back and forth over my house all day like a death march. My wife has a friend who’s a cleaner at the Microtel in Robbinsville and she says she’s lost count of the times she’s had to go in a room and pack up the belongings of someone who has died in on the Dragon.

@Mona B Everyone thinks they have the driving skills to go faster than the next guy. If you were really that good, you wouldn’t be using a crooked ass 35mph public road with no shoulders as your racetrack. 🙄

Hey Jess, Rode the Dragon for the first time this past Memorial Day weekend. I almost got killed by a blue corvette that was passing a pickup truck. I came around a corner just in time to see him pull out to pass. I hit my brakes while still negotiating the turn and heard the exhaust of the Vette as the driver hit the afterburners. Glad I rode it but I won’t ever go back. Be safe and love your channel.

All I can think of is Bilbo takling to Gandalf. “I want to see mountains again, Gandalf, mountains, and then find somewhere where I can rest. In peace and quiet, without a lot of relatives prying around, and a string of confounded visitors hanging on the bell. I might find somewhere where I can finish my book. I have thought of a nice ending for it: and he lived happily ever after to the end of his days.”

Well done, I rode the dragon in September, planning wasn’t great ended up riding it in the rain. It’s more than most people expect and certainly not for beginners especially in the rain. I guess the best part of it was we didn’t see any other cars or bikes on the entire ride into deals gap. One and done for me, I would not go out of my way to ride it again. I enjoyed the Cherohola Skyway much more.

Agreed. I live on Fort Mountain, GA and that daily ride is a more pleasant 20 miles than Deals Gap's 11. I find the roads on either side of Deals Gap 129 are much more rewarding. Cherohala is the best ride in the area. Takes me 1hr 20 to get to Telico Plains by Turtletown and Coker Creek or 1:45 to get to Robbinsville by Murphy on US74. Cherohala Skyway, camp at Indian Boundary. Excellent campground choices. Excellent bath house.

Hey Jess, I started riding in 1965. I am a lone rider now that I'm in my 70's. I ride a '17 Heritage with leather bags and, (now that I have time), make long rides strictly for pleasure. I am about to make a trip (a little more than 800 mi.) to "Tail of the Dragon" and absolutely loved the video of your ride there on "HerTwo Wheels". It is now my favorite of your videos. Like you, I prefer riding my own ride, unlike you, I don't have video equipment like what you use, but because of your video I am (for the first time) going to record my trip with my phone to share with family and friends. I shall include my camping and what that entails.Thank you for the inspiration, (no competition for you), thank you for the excellent quality of videos that you post, and thank you for being so delightful to watch.

We chose to NOT ride the "Tail of the Dragon", ..............after I read many reviews AND watched one too many videos of the Dragon' at it's worst. The best rider ever can not avoid the jackasses and morons, riding AND driving too fast and dangerously. No thank you. The other roads/rides are far more scenic and /or equally winding and curvy.

My grandfather was a supervisor building the Blue Ridge Parkway during the depression. Having seen the roads you can imagine how dangerous it was in the 30's building the roads.

@her two wheels, the Great Smokey Mountains, Pisgah, and the entire Blue Ridge are a special place of solitude and reflection for my family and I. I take a once a year pilgrimage to the mountains of western NC, eastern TN, north GA and commune with all that is wonderful. It clears my head and preps me for another year of life. I recommend staying at the Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge on your next visit. Perfect location to launch from and return to. Keep up the great work. Cheers

BRP is my backyard, near Asheville. I ride parts of it constantly. I've been to the Tail of the Dragon numerous times, love the roads around it as much as I do the TotD! Cherohala, and 28 are awesome roads!! All the trips to Tail, I've never seen anything terribly unusual. Crazy that you came upon that!!! I hope you enjoyed the area, I brag about it all the time! 🤣😂 If you do come back sometime soon, I'd love to ride with you for a bit. I've actually had the great fortune to show other vloggers (Boots and Jeans Riders from California, Purple on Three and PSPTOMMYG from Pennsylvania) some of the great roads in the area, like The Cherohala Skyway, The Moonshiner, and so many roads that run off the BRP. You were very close the the Fontana Dam, top and bottom... On and on it goes!!

Cool video. A word of caution: when you described how you do trail braking you indicated that you do it with the rear brakes. Trail braking has to do with going against the old philosophy of never using your front brakes in a turn. Trail braking has to do with using your front brakes well before the turn (to get the weight shifted forward onto the front wheel while you are upright) and then "trail off" the pressure as you are in the turn. It's the sudden weight shift forward that happens when you brake hard ONCE IN the turn that causes loss of traction and wipe outs. MC Rider and Canyon Chasers explains this very well

Thank you for sharing this video! I rode down from northeast Wisconsin by myself and slayed the Dragon 2yrs ago. I've got a picture of my bike, at that very overlook, where you stopped at before getting to the Dragon. Your video brought back so many great memories from my trip. The beauty is just incredible! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I can't wait to get back and explore that area again. Keep your knees in the breeze, enjoy the ride. And remember, not all who wander, are lost.

About your feet going numb, have you considered lower fairings? I ride my vtx with just a crash bar for a long time and definitely had the "cold feet" and then I got my electra glide with lower fairings. And they help a ton especially in the cooler weather. And they even have little glove boxes (can also get them with speakers) with as much as you ride I think you should try a set. They mount on the crash bar and are really easy to take off when its warmer weather. Also tail of the dragon is on my bucket list! Keep up the good work. And happy 2 years.

Rode the Tail with my wife on the back. Scared the he'll out of her on all of the hairpin turns. Never went over the speed limit. Stayed within my capabilities and made it without a scratch. Still there are better rides in the Smokies. Love the video (mine didn't turn out so well).

I've been on the Tail of the Dragon 129 probably about a dozen times. The first time was in a rental SUV when I flew into Knoxville and had to drive to Silva North Carolina. It was a blast for me. Then I found a couple other highways near there that actually had tunnels included. The first time I ever rode a motorcycle on 129 was a Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird that I bought in Knoxville. I bought a one-way ticket from DFW to Knoxville and flew out there to install my phone equipment and I bought the motorcycle at the same time. I rode 129 while I had down-time from the install and it was cool. I then rode the Blackbird home to Dallas. Now, the most enjoyable was when I took my Mom with me on a July 4th weekend out there. I took my Kawasaki Vulcan that I still have because all my other bikes at the time were sportbikes. We rode all over the Knoxville area, down into North Carolina (they had a rockslide on 129 and most of it was closed) and up into Kentucky. We had a blast that weekend. My Mom even got into AC/DC because the Harley shop there was doing an event which included an AC/DC tribute band. When we returned home, she insisted that she wanted to do more rides like that. I told her if she really was serious, then I'd have to buy a Goldwing. A few weeks later, I bought the Goldwing I still have today and we enjoyed a lot of miles on it. She's in her 80s now and still bugs me about wanting to go ride. I enjoy seeing people still getting into the Blue Ridge Pkwy and 129 on motorcycles. But to me it's more than just a highway or just something to do. I won't go anymore into it, because each person has their own experience with this. But, I will say that too often I see people today and they seem to miss something about what it's all about.

I rode both the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tail of the Dragon first time in September. Great roads. Getting to the Dragon early is a must. I rode from the north end on a Saturday and arrived at Deals Gap about 8:30 AM, and no one in front or behind me the whole trip in. Spent about an hour at the resort, then headed back. By that time, got trapped behind a succession of vehicles going slower than I preferred. Nonetheless, still enjoyed it and at least got the unimpeded southerly trip in. I’m not a speed-demon by any stretch, but it was nice to run it at my pace.

Great video. I remember my first time on BRP, the Dragon & the Cherohala skyway, me and Mrs 2wheeler could not stop saying "WOW". I posted a video series called "twists of the mountains". It really is a magical place. We still go back every so often to do some riding there. A great place to stay (though not the cheapest) is Fontana Village Resort, they have regular hotel rooms with a deck looking out to the mountains & cottages, and a good restaurants. Our favorite was Mountainview Bistro. Great view of the mountains as you enjoy dinner. BIG congrats on 2 years. RIde safe.

I used to live in Tn and ran that so many times. I love that ride but there are so many fantastic rides in the area. I have been on the Dragon in the rain while pulling my trailer with the Goldwing. It gets more hype than it deserves. If ridden sanely it is just fun, if they attack that mountain with the wrong attitude, as you witnessed it will bite you. Thanks for taking us along and congrats on the channel anniversary. Oh it is so different on the weekend. It is ten times as busy. Be safe, have fun.

Hello young lady. I rode The Tail of the Dragon in 2017 on a 2006 HD Heritage Softail, then I rode it this past May on my 2020 HD Tri-Glide Ultra. A great ride on 2 or 3 wheels. Also the Smoky Mtn HD in Marysville, TN (where you are eating your lunch) is a great dealership! On our May ride my friend had an issue with his Tri-Glide and we all went to the Smokey Mtn dealership. Yeah we had to spend a few hours there, but the food, the comradery the staff and the bikers made it a pleasure. They worked my friend in and thankful had the parts needed and we made it back home that night. A big shoutout to Smoky Mountain HD in Marysville, TN. I did a ride on the parkway a few weeks ago (I only live about 20 minutes from where I can get on the Pkwy) and videoed it for my Channel "Tri-Glide Ed" and the colors of the leaves were beautifully vibrant! Okay young lady you take care have fun but ride safe. Respectfully, Ed

Best time to do the Dragon is in the fall (or spring) after the crowds have gone; and do it mid-week. Even so you get the road racers who can do some serious damage to themselves and you. The day before I rode it a guy on 2 wheels blew a corner and centerpunched an older couple head on. He didn't survive and the older couple were in shock, something they will never forget. One MUST respect that road and ride it well and aware of others and yourself. For me it's a one and done road. Glad I did it but no need to risk another ride on it for all the reasons you experienced on your ride.
