I'm a backer, and I will keep backing them. And one day I will receive my slide film (I hope). I knew what I was getting into, when I backed the kickstarter. I wish them all the best with the new p30 film, and when the European store opens I'll order some rolls. I hope there will also be p30 in 120 soon.

@@CertainExposures I have some up on Flickr, but here are two examples: live.staticflickr.com/931/43032091614_54b91f3f1f_h.jpg live.staticflickr.com/1899/29201498947_32ddc5789b_h.jpg It took some experimenting to find what worked for me and I only had five rolls on hand originally. IMO the best way to shoot it is ISO 25, HC-110B 1:31, develop 5 minutes. It acts a lot like slide film, it's best in softer light, overcast, morning/evening and meter for the highlights. It's crazy sharp and fine grained though, and just pops with dramatic lighting.

Nico, I really like these opinion videos. I know Ferrania from a very long past, one of my uncles always used Ferrania film. My main reason to back the Kickstarter was to save the film factory. It reminded me a little of The Impossible Project. That took almost 10 years. I admire the Ferrania people that run this project, despite all troubles encountered they kept going on and on! I think this kind of reflection is important and think a bit about how complicated it is to start a challenge like resuscitating a company in a business with such a limited market. It seems that the biggest problem lately is finish the product. Ferrania found this problem some time ago and Kodak announces now price increases for this reason. What strikes me is that even though the 135 rolls termination is problematic, don't decide to launch a sale in 30 meter cans that simplifies the termination and many users would appreciate it.

Silver content doesn’t equate to better, sharper, better negatives in any way shape or form anymore. Kodak’s retired lead chemist wrote a long blog post about bunking such myths. Adox Silvermax is a bunch of marketing, it’s a great film nonetheless.

I'm a backer too, and I was backing them for what they wanted to achieve - buying the machines, creating a new film manufacturing and re-issuing the slide film Ferrania once produced. Well, I was never interested in the slide film (I'm more interested in color negative), but when they came up with P30 Alpha, I was excited. And after my first roll of P30 Alpha (I payed for 5 of it, because I didn't want them as perks, but give them additional money), I was hooked. And the drama around FILM Ferrania was worth all my money, it is better than any Hollywood sequel and worth every cent I've given them. Now I'm just waiting for them to get their act together, and don't care when this will happen. As a German, I was aware that things would not work out as planned in Italy, and it came as it had to come (no surprise there ;-)). Okay, as a Berliner I'm well accustomed to things not going to plan, but it will happen eventually (it looks as if our shiny new airport will go "online" in October, or maybe November, or December 2020, or maybe spring next year - who cares ;-)).

About 8 years ago I visited the Ilford factory in Mobberly for a factory tour. They had installed a 35mm packaging machine they'd bought from Ferrania. It was/is a fabulous piece of kit and far advanced from what preceded it. It takes a large roll of 35mm, spools, flat plates of the canister and reels of felt. It automatically rolls and cuts the film to length on the spool, bends the canister to shape after adding the light felt and assembles it all with the caps. It was fast, maybe 10 secs to complete a roll. Ilford's greatest difficulty was that the control software was in Italian and they were learning how to manage it. Now I've no idea how many of these machines Ferrania had, but Ilford only needed one and they had it from Ferrania and they still have it. If that was Ferrania's only machine, I suspect they'd need someone else to package the 35mm film for them. Maybe that's in the USA. It would cost many hundreds of thousands of euros to buy a new machine and install it.

  • @GregoryVeizades

The machine ilford bought was from Ferrania's main factory. The facilities and equipment Film Ferrania bought were from a small testing and development factory that Ferrania Operated but never made film in quantity for worldwide distribution.

Will you be posting an update once the USA store is live? I will buy a roll to try it out. I do not know all the details about this case. However, I’ve heard tales about the bureaucracy that Italian citizens/businesses have to face sometimes (mainly anecdotal). 5 years does seem long though. In any case, I think you’re on the money about there being some good in a vertically integrated film producer. The fallout with their unnamed partner could have been a blessing in disguise. I just hope Ferrania bends over backwards for the kickstarters and investors. In this community it is certainly better to under promise and over deliver.

There is no “getting burned”. Kickstarters are very clearly up front a “risk”. That you got your hopes all up and heavy, and bet what you feel is a princely sum, is not Ferranias fault or problem. Retro80s is the real “equivalent” of P30.

If things were simple they certainly did not ask for help. The greatness of Ferrania is having produced an old school film, with an old school concept...In the world all the producers have changed the recipe of their emulsions making them cheaper and more adaptable to large retailers, not Ferrania. The P30 is not an easy film, it is expensive in production with its 5g/m2 of silver, an abnormal amount if referred to the competition, and the results are noticeabl. Furthermore, due to its high silver content, it is a film that can be printed on a slide..In Italy the best technicians have obtained excellent results. The 120 is almost in production, according to the CEO there are a few months left to launch...(before covid-19) so if they announced for July it will surely be postponed for September/October. The production of a chemical designed for the P30 is also planned (at the moment all the technicians have obtained the best results with the Rollei Supergrain in dilution 1 + 12 for 7 ′, 30 ″ at 20 ° C) and a color film.

What the heck, I'll order some and sell them off to you folks in Europe. I'll pass the expenses to you guys across the pond there in order to cover my expenses :)

That's very good to have a new film, but unfortunately it's one more film at an insane price! Not for me, sorry... I'm pretty happy with my Fomapan films that cost me no more than 2€ the roll of 36 exposures buying bulk rolls. It allows me to take 5 times more pictures, which is very useful in street photography...

Yeah, this film won't be for everyone at first. Its expensive because as he said. We are funding a factory through buying this film.

It is a miracle that Ferrania is still around. The Italian government is the worst. A truly Byzantine organization that is a nightmare to face
