I remember back in 2008 when my mother would work nightshifts at the refineries I'd have to stay the night at my cousin's ranch. I once woke up late at night around maybe 1 or 2 am. Everyone was already asleep by this time. & as I entered the kitchen I heard this song bein played on the radio that was on top of the counter. I was only 7 then. I'm 20 yrs old now & it strikes me very hard knowing how fast time has passed. It's heartwrenching. It makes me cry..Never take nuthing for granted in life. Coz it seems when a person does we live to regret not doing so...

@@-Radical.Ed- I thought it had codependency vibes. Maybe they indulged in an addiction together but she's ready to get clean and sober but he's not (I've got some straightening out to do). The "I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket" makes me think it was a codependent/enabling relationship that brought an unhealthy type of comfort. That doesn't necessarily mean that's what she meant the song to be, but that's the feeling it gave me after coming from a family of addicts.

This song will NEVER get old. At 15 I was on my own, at 16 my BF was 42yrs old. I was with him for 6yrs. Then at 22, I woke up one day and thought......I gotta go. That was back in 1986. When this song came out my daughter was 17 and I was (and still am) happily married to the man of my dreams. But gotta admit this song took me back real quick to that "Girl" who thought she was a grown up (: That man passed away 3yrs ago, saying to the end that I was the only woman he ever loved. Woman? I was a lil girl who was simply forced to grow up in a hurry! But I still think of him when I hear this song and I can finally hear with a smile instead of a tear.
