Fenton was one of the smoothest Bluesmen to ever grace the stage. Always loved him!!!!

"I hear some Blues Downstairs" is one of my all time favorite Blues albums. Fenton's singing & playing on that album were a revelation to my ears. He brought something new & exciting to the Blues. And that's why this performance is quite disappointing for me. Maybe it just wasn't a good night for him, but why wouldn't a professional musician have his guitar tuned before he stepped on stage? Nevertheless, 20 years gone, Fenton Robinson will remain one my favorite 'modern era' Blues artists. Period. So here's to you, Mr. Robinson. R.I.P.

I believe, Fenton's art and craftmanship were at their height in the 1970s when he cut both albums (my favorite is "Loan me a dime" from 1974). There are videos from that decade on youtube which are fantastic. All later videos lack creativity and are disappointing. However, have you been watching the full video? His soloing from 5:12 is actually very fine. May Fenton rest in peace.

At this time he was in the first stages of the brain cancer that eventually caused his death.

@@lindabailey3967 Thanks for that information, Linda. It clears up why he wasn't giving his usual stellar performance. How sad .....

I've got two of his CDs: Loan Me a Dime and I Hear Some Blues Downstairs. Great stuff. The man could play a guitar and sing.

I, as others here, were truly blown away when I first heard him. He had a style unlike any other player, and man could he sing purdy!! This is an incredible video, despite being out of tune on occassion (who really cares, actually?), so thank you for posting.

LARRY DAVIS was his musical blues bro, both stylistically and spiritually. Both had that Tx - Toddlin Town connexion via Texarkana -Memphis thru Duke & Meteor. T-bone was breathing behind their wings. Both are now blues angels, not devils ...the records will remain, souls soar

@francours francours with all due respect francours, I'm the guy playing keys. I have the whole night on video. If you reviewed that you would see Fenton adjusting his tuning. He also mentioned to me personally that he was having some slippage. He was one of my heroes and am truly grateful and honored I was able to play with him many times.
