    Sense your pain at various points, Brad. (Hard to miss! 😅) But ... this _is_ now the best Twin in Australia, correct? Or perhaps the southern hemisphere? Or maybe ... THE WORLD!! 😎🙌👏

    Why can't I find and OCD service agent in my area :( The pride to take in your work is outstanding, and I just hope more people see these vids and you get heaps of work out of it. And most honest customers do not mind paying extra for this standard of work, so don't ever feel bad for asking them.

    The amp came in as a basket case. The amp leaves and you're now the basket case. But hey another pristine example of a classic tube amp lives on. And time will heal all wounds. Great work as always Brad.

    Yep, Brad did an amazing job. The thing Fender definitely did right was to not build a disposable product. These amps were built with service and repair in mind. How many Katanas do you think will still be in service 50, 30, even 20 years after production?

  • @rgbplumbinghilton

    @rgbplumbinghilton

    Жыл бұрын

    @socallars3748 well I have a few solid state amps from the 70's and early 80's so it's not just hand wired tube amps that last for years. The katana is a well built amp and should easily last 20 years.

    Great video want to share something I was taught by Steve Henning in Austin Texas he did Srv an EJS Speaker work so all these fenders guess what baffle board material they use ??? particle board so the first thing he did to EJS amps and Stevies or Jimmys amps was changing the baffles in all of them every twin Ej had was replaced with specific baffle board material and painted black and grill cloth replaced back You hear the speaker as they are then and if still an issue you get correct speakers which might take a year to get 2 or 4 speakers done. If Jensen then they needed to be right and matched. Now you might say pain in butt but if you use voidless birch and paint it flat black and install new t bolts and all bolt up speakers right in it and hook them right on up to new baffle board. the amp sounds better there would be no dead spots in wood...

    I love seeing a job done properly, even if doing so makes it not cost effective! These amps deserve this sort of treatment, it'd be better to let them rot away than do a half-assed job of fixing them. You clearly take a lot of pride in your work, it's nice to see.

    Cobber, you’ve killed it, great job! Something to aspire to for myself on my upcoming rebuild. I do plan to use the pull pot to patch in some clipping diodes, but apart from that, I’m following your pattern here. Full rebuild and full sex appeal. Fuck yeah.

    ❤❤❤ For twins, especially AB763's check out the GA-SC64 + Legend 1258 combo. Just got to avoid something mushy or bosomy in V2. I really love those Tung Sol 6L6GC STR's too. Really nails that phat 5881 sound. Nothing like the (still cool but very different) JJ 6's. Amazing work dude. I really appreciate that I found your channel via Lyle! Its so cool to know people are still out there loving this stuff. Edit: If you actually use the reverb (for me 3-always-on) definitely use Vishay ceramics throughout. The 0.022uf coupling cap in to the 500pf reverb mixer especially: stuff a Vishay class 2 Z5U in there instead of a film. Really lifts the blanket. They always come in light at 17uf ish. Definitely works!

    That was fun one to watch! :D Nice work as well. Do you have bad experience on JJ overall or only certain types like 6L6? JJ being only tube these days that's both available and reasonably priced, I've had many of those and only one or maybe 2 have failed. Not sure which point of view I would have, number of sets I've had is maybe a dozen + low tens of preamp tubes, so even one failed tube would mean high fail rate in percentage, but they come with 6 month warranty where I buy 'em, so it's not total disaster..

    Great job as you always do Brad. I have always thought orange drop coupling capacitors were way over rated, especially when you compare them to the Panasonic caps. Tbh I found the el cheapo Xicon caps that look similar to Panasonic caps to be a better choice over orange drops.

    Aloha and Mahalo Brad! Info is much appreciated. Always wanted to build an amp. Again no money but one day. Always wanted at make an amp with blackface and tweed preamp. With valve and rectifier and A/B and cathode bias. Just another Mess Boogie. I realized several simple amps are best. Just need to know what I'm looking for. Stupid cause I sit at my condo and can't crank it up. Got to some volume to get the sounds. I just need to play and find out. Can't get Handivan driver to be my get away car.

  • @BradsGuitarGarage

    Yeah, you find with all the options, after a few weeks, you tend to just default to one and leave it there, so just build the amp that way. It would be useful as a demonstration amplifier for determining the architecture of a custom build, but what's the point? The customer will always change their mind in 6 months, anyway. At least they do in my experience.

    Nice work. I'm wondering which brand and type of resistors you currently use in the preamp? I generally use 1watt or higher on everything because modern parts look like junk. I think USA distributors change brands to increase profits and carry a lot of garbage.
