I own this exact same bass, was the first one I ever bought. Super solid for the price point. I also recently purchased a player jazz in metallic sage green, it has the pao pherro fretboard. Bought that one used and luckily it had a very dark example of the wood. Either way the player series stuff is great for what they are.

Just got one for $679 while they are marked down. Apparently Fender is clearing these out to make way for the Player II series or whatever they decide to call them. My guess is that the new ones will come with rosewood fretboards and upgraded electronics. Probably with an upgraded price tag too. So get one while you can.

Just picked up a Player Series P-bass today at CG. Went back and forth for awhile between that and a J-Bass. Love them both but the P-bass 'player series" had more thunder on the lows and mids, and great growl on the higher end, and with a pick. So much dexterity for a passive bass. It's going to quickly become my go-to.

The thing I like about this bass and the American performer bass, is that they come with the standard bass bridge. The Pro 2 basses come with a high mass bridge, that make the tones and attack punchier. I actually played a Pro 2 p bass and prefer the Performer bass better and would probably like this one as well. Also, The MIM basses have that cool stripe on the back of the neck, that the US basses don't have.

Just picked up one of these on nyd for $699, on sale down from $849. Mine has a rosewood neck, but I’ve never seen one like this one. The actual fretboard seems to have no finish on it? If that’s a thing? And the neck has I believe a satin finish like the one you have in this video. Should I oil it or anything? Anyway, great video and review! Edit: It’s pau ferro I figured out. Had never seen it, and wasn’t up to speed with the fretboard world.

Good point, at the minute mark. All the mex Fenders have late ‘80’s feel as what you would expect from a U.S fender of that era. Of course what this means is I’m an old hipster from that era, that was selling them at that time , lol

They do on sale from time to time for $650ish. If you really want to go cheap and don't mind getting your hands dirty go used Classic Vibe. Mine was $250 shipped. The pickups are really mediocre but I didn't care because I went EMG Geezer Butler for full stoner/doom goodness. The Fender USA vintage pickups are really good too. They have that vintage sound with a lot more clarity and fullness than the Classic Vibe ones. I have those in my ancient Mexican P bass. For $450 you can make yourself a workhorse bass.

Had to fix and repair four things on mine, out of the box. No working Jack was one of them. So they sent me a "Lemon", monday ex. offcause i could just send it back, but the guitar really felt great so I started to repair and fix it. It is now one of the best precision basses i ever had and plays like a sweet dream. Had som seventis precisions before and this is much better! It's now THE bass guitar that I will never let go. But, shame on Fender Ensenada for having this very questionable Quallity Control. 1. The nut was so wrong cut, that the g string layed just att the edge of the fret board. I made a new one from a tusq xl. 2. Strap button was so loose you could spin it rund and round. The hole was verry big, plugged it with peices of ash. 3. Top part of the pickup was slanting downwards like crazy, opened it up and the damper foam was placed at just one side, centerd it and secured it with some doublesided tape. 4. Was plugging it in for the first time to hear what it sounds like? Nothing happened... cable did'nt even stay in the jack! Okej, the little "metall-flerp" that holds your cable and gives the juice to the electrics must probably be slightly adjusted. So I opened it up and sure enough it had to be tweaken allright. It was mounted about 5 centimeter from right position!! So to me this indicates that Fender Ensenada don't have any QC over the electrics, not on my bass anyway. They just make em, and then shipp em out the door. You should never have to repair a new instrument from the box! In my case four different things. I like to work on guitars so it was okej, so maby i should just have sent it back, just because? I'm happy how it turned out, and I just have one more thing to say. BAD FENDER!

Ratt, I have the Yamaha BB734a, it's a nice bass and a dream to play, I never use it in active mode, the passive is so good. I use La-Bella RX strings on it and I'm happy with the sound, to me it's not quite a fender P but it's very very close. The nut width on the BB is 40mm, I think the Fender is maybe 42mm I can't be sure. The weight of the Yamaha is 3.940kg or 8.69lb My advice is try and play both and it's up to you. Hope this helps.
