Love Reech @ ECS! He'll wind a split coil jazz bridge for you if you inquire, so so very quiet! I have found you need to scrape the glue he uses off the bottom of the pole pieces if you choose to ground them with the shielding tape trick. I'm not sure he insulates the poles b4 he winds the coils, I had a PBass pickup of his that sounded like a truck horn whenever I touched the poles.

Stock, it sounds like a PJ; with the Delanos, it sounds like a PJ with aftermarket pickups. I like them both. The Delano compares favorable to most big-magnet replacement pups that I've heard. The mids are right where I like them, and I like the shiny high end and dense lows. All things being equal, I'd choose the Delanos, but I'm not sure I'd spend the money.

  • @czguy3045

Love the Aerodyne. If I buy another actual Fender in the next couple of years, it's the odds-on favorite. I think the stock pickups sound great in the vid... its stock sound doesn't always blow me away in most demos, other than the P pickup soloed. Here it sounds great. I do think the Delanos sound a bit better here and there, esp from the open E up to maybe the C... but the Fenders definitely don't sound bad at all. Great vid. I definitely enjoy the longer back and forth comparisons. I sort of edited my own extended comparisons from your vids back when you were doing all the Stingray mods. Definitely think that's the best way to compare.

LOL came here to say that the stock pickups sounded very very well and not that different or worse than the delanos. However this is why you have done such a great job with this review. Not always its supposed to be a slam dunk and everyone got important information out of this swap.

Hmmmm, I have an Aerodyne P in candy apple red. I am tempted to say that the stock pups are absolutely fine. The Delano 's are certainly nice but it's down to taste I guess. The only issue I have with mine is the dreaded barrel jack that I have replaced twice and it still cuts out with a cable attached and is fine with a wireless. Great video as always Mr Homarus gammarus.

I got the Artec big poles from Guitar Madness for $25... Not as hot as I assumed they would be. Installing them in the Mark Hoppus MkII position, reversed and much closer to the neck. They're a little peaky but have a really sweet bloom, like fast attack/not as fast release on a compressor. Not as compressed as the BLawrence p46, but some. Lows are really clean and forward, nice harmonics. Did I mention they were $25?... 🤫

In the 80's i thought that way about single coil j pickups. But I realized that true single coils are the only way to get the sounds I wanted. And you can't hear the hum while playing unless you're using crazy amounts of gain. Any noiseless J is a humbucker of sorts, either stacked or side-by-side in the housing. And if Jaco used single coils to make the music he did, thats good enough for me.

I have this bass and swapped out the pickups for Seymour Duncan quarter pounds as I was looking for a good rock tone with the PJ. The stock pickups, I felt, sounded great when both were at 100%, but were a little weak when using just the P or just the J. I would mod the tuners and the bridge, but can’t find any in that cool smokey chrome. I love the neck - one of my favorites. The all gloss black is so cool looking, but is a fingerprint magnet. Love the tone of this mod and love this channel.
