This is how it starts. Small changes here and there to the existing lore. The real fans speak out,and we're told to touch grass and get a life. Star wars,star trek,mcu,dcu,lord of the rings,the witcher. So many franchises turned to dust because of an agenda. Now let me ask YOU a question. If changing the lore makes no difference,why change it at all? Why add female custodes if it makes no significant changes other than increasing representation in the grimdark future? Tell me what was gained by this decision.

The Witcher books are wholly separate from the TV show, same with the games. What are these new things doing that so wholly damages what already exists? I personally love how they portray women in this setting. Sisters of battle bring that scary fanatical fervour and Sisters of silence face things no other arm of the military can face except the assassinorium clades. They both are awesome especially the sister of silence i love hearing about their role in the burning of prospero. I appreciate you saying this 🙏

You may not respect the lore but many people do. This retcon just cheapens the setting - there hasn't ever been a mention of female custodes and now they go and do it in some small codex snippet! what a joke.

The issue is with the lore specifically having to do with the custodians is not a lot of people know their lore. because they aren't created like spaceman people have assumed that leaves the door open for female custodians even though ever since their first appearance all the way back in second edition, we have been told time and time again that they are males. The Horus Heresy Vol. I: Visions of War page 143: "These men are my bodyguards, their lives forfeit to the guarantee of my physical unity. Of their loyalty to me there shall be no question nor doubt. I, and I alone, shall have the authority to stand in judgement over them. No other commander shall they have in battle nor in service. None shall bar them from me and none shall hamper or stall their mission. So it is decreed." 8E Codex page 14: "they are chosen from sons of noble houses and the process of their recruitment and creation is not known to anybody outside those creating them.... ....they are to the emperor the space marines are to their genefather " 9E Codex page 8: "Members of their own families would not recognize them, should they be alive to see what has happened to their son, nephew or cousin" everyone can say the recon mean Lord doesn't matter, but the bolter has always worked like the Bolter has the space means have always worked like the space have there are certain fundamental parts of the canon, such as the emperor being stuck on the golden Throne no matter how much you reckon it has to stay the same for the universe to function. See also repeated references to a 'Brotherhood of Demigods', all known Custodes having masculine names and appearances, etc etc. The only way you can claim it's more accurate is to say the Lord doesn't matter therefore, everything can change. But if you want to go with that argument, you have to understand that means nothing in Kanan matters means the emperor and the golden throne doesn't matter means space means don't matter this whole universe doesn't matter because everything is fiction. If anybody wants those pictures, but literally on page 6 of this Kodex, where they revealed, it says the brotherhood of Demi gods and keeps referring onto them like that throughout the whole book

It’s a fair argument, there’s lots of previous lore that’s stated they are male only, but sometimes small changes do sneak in, and lore evolves over time even if only slightly. Even the Custodes have changed. I will say this, the change was done in a completely bungled way, they could have at least added some narrative to support it.

If you want to paint them in pride colors go for it that is distinctly different than Rhett Canning 40 years worth of lore), lore does slightly change, but we’ve never seen a change to the scale before and yes, I do respect other peoples perspectives. I can understand why people would want this, and why people would like more representation. However, it does affect other peoples hobby and you running out here strawman other peoples opinions and acting like it doesn’t affect them as rude as hell.a lot of people get into Warhammer purely based on the lore. Especially with how many people people are disenfranchised with how bad the last few additions of Wim are what’s the point in staying if the only thing you were staying here was for lore. Another prime example of Laura actually not changing is how in second edition Gilman was just a pile of bones in a normal commander, but in third edition until eighth edition, he was sat on his own throne, so there is evidence that lore does actually stay the same for an extended period of time it’s not only changed like everybody argues. Been acting like the lore doesn’t matter to the universe, and the only thing that matters is the tabletop grossly underestimates how significant lore had been to setting hammer distinctly apart from any other table top game

I know a lot of moderate people throughout the community, feel very disrespected because they’re immediately being told that they’re overreacting when it comes to this because other have told them there valid opinion is wrong, because don’t like a lore. And how lore change without any set up, and it comes across as being painted to specifically most of my female friends hate this decision, especially.

Gatekeeping is a necessity. When you don't you end up with the M-She-U and The Force is Female.

They use strategic escalation to slowly work their politics into everything they can. “Strategic escalation” is literally their term for how they roll shit out not mine. This is step one. There will be much more in the next few years. For now tho they’re going to hate farm this to make the fan base look like a bunch of sexist assholes so that low information third party onlookers don’t side with the people upset and so they can set a precedent in the minds of others when there is bigger backlash later for more egregious actions. Watch over the next few weeks there will be an above average amount of hit pieces from left wing activist journalists to help set the idea in the public consciousness that they are simply the good and inclusive people who love everyone and the fans are all bigots. Then in a couple years when they start gender and race swapping major characters and the fan base really freaks out they point back and say “look they’ve been bigots the whole time. GW has to make money guys these big companies are giving money away to companies to include wokeness in their companies.

This is the kind of person who would play the game regardless of whether they added female custodians or not. The issue here is that it an UNWANTED change to a game 30 years into the making. To say that it shouldn't matter is saying that no one should ever get attached to the lore because it can be altered and change at any given moment. The issue is that this is a den of like-minded players that has been infiltrated by activists who don't care about the product. To them, it's simply about marking another win under their belt of diversity, and they could give a damn whether or not the product they change will suceed with it or not.

Because there is nothing in lore that says the full potential of humanity cannot be brought out of women. Also, what do you do when Nobles don't have any sons to replenish the Custode ranks? That's right, you use their daughters instead. Also, the term, brotherhood, can be used for any close group of guy friends, even in co-ed organizations. For all you know the "brotherhood" that they were refering to within the Custodes were just a section of male Custodians that got together on Sundays to play Blackjack. There is nothing in lore that prevents females from being Custodes. The backlash to all of this is ridiculous. It's not like they retconned Space Marines' Geneseed lore. Get a grip people!

It's nice to have a brotherhood, brothers in arms. You have to hate men to think a fraternity is a bad thing. It's not even a popular faction like marines, there is no argument that it will attract lots of girls to the game. It won't. It's like only bad factions like chaos can have all-male groups. If it's good, it needs to be either mixed or all-female, by definition. Now how is that fair? To me it feels hateful.

I feel sorry for people who feel like this. I'd be pretty stoked even if space marines got some ladies, as long as it makes sense in lore. Before you say it can't. If the Rubicon Primaries can make sense then creating female Space Marines can. And. It shouldn't matter.

I think everyone can agree they implemented them in a pretty bad way (ie. “There have always been female custodes”), but people are treating this like the 9/11 of warhammer. The issue here is that they didnt change the lore. Nothing from the black library or codexes explains how female candidates are now viable for geneseed. Thats the issue. If Bile figured it out and they made a short story around it at the very least, most people wouldnt have batted an eye. Its the bending the knee and gaslighting that everyone has an issue with. Saying shit like this is being purposfully obtuse, missing the point entirely, or are the same people that genuinely dont give a rats ass about the hobby but just want to see the world burn.

That ‘there have always been’ tweet they put out was bad, they would have been much better off posting a full Warhammer community article saying ‘Hey folks, we changed this and we think it’s cool’ - here’s a short story explaining why they now recruit female children too, due to extreme campaign losses

For starters, the anti-femstodes acknowledge that lore can be retconned whenever, but they would also point out that not all lore changes and retcons are good. See "Palpatine Returns" for reference. They would say that this particular retcon reeks of pandering and if the Amazon rumors are true, then it is. Another argument I read was posted by a female Nightlords player. She's been called a "Pick Me Girl" for not jumping on the Femstodes bandwagon, but her argument was dichotomy. Male only: Adeptus Astartes, Adeptus Custodes. Female only: Sisters of Silence, Sisters of Battle. Every other Imperial Faction: Mixed. She said that the balance was good there, and I find myself agreeing because now there's only 1 Male-only faction vs 2 female only. Most anti-female Custodes people love the Sororitas and the Sisters of Silence and would much prefer big updates and overhauls to those factions instead. Lastly, if Custodes have always included females, then it calls into question the Emperor's reasons for refusing to make female Space Marines or female Primarchs. In the book "Scars", Malcador reveals that he suggested female Primarchs to the Emperor, and the Emperor thought he was joking. The Emperor had the MEANS, the OPPORTUNITY, the SKILLS, and a workable template for female Primarchs in Erda, but he refused to create even one. Why then would he be so adamantly against it if he'd been creating female super-soldiers for his most cherished, elite bodyguard? I think it makes more sense the Emperor wasn't interested in making female super-beings in general. So that's just a few of the arguments you could see, there's many more. I hope I don't come off as dismissive or mean, just wanting to show most arguments go deeper than. "Muh lore".

why does it matter if there are female custodes you ask... let me ask a similar question then, why does it matter that they didnt exist before now....

It’s a fair question, and i guess it doesn’t. My main issue is some parts of the community (on both sides of this!) who have dialled the toxicity up to 11.

It's the first among what will be many very clear demonstrations that the hobby, and it's lore, are not as important as virtue signaling a specific set of idealogical and political beliefs, and just like all the other franchises that pull that particular stunt, it will steadily begin to decline in quality until it is no longer even remotely worth paying attention to. 40k End times in five years. Complete and total IP collapse by 2030.

If ROI is not how you *got* the investment money to begin with, what makes you think ROI will suddenly matter to your investors? Blackrock and Vanguard have very clearly outlined their investment policies. There's a freely available chart on the internet that shows exactly how you get money from them. You're being willfully ignorant when you say that their two biggest investors, groups that have very clearly stated that ROI is not the basis for their investment strategy, will suddenly start caring about ROI after they've acquired the investment capital. Thank you, and I completely agree with you, it was handled in such a bad way, especially the tweet. If they’d have published a warhammer community article with a short story and some blurb being honest, then it would have been so much less of an issue. People definitely have the right to be angry, but not to start flinging all sorts of hate around, and that definitely applies to both sides of the debate. Seen some folk on Twitter who are celebrating female custodes being absolute idiots, there’s been some masks slipping that’s for sure. Thanks and May the 4th be with you!

So, why do we need Female Custodes? Changes something? If that changes nothing why to change it? REPRESENTATION?!?! I feel very represented by a 9 feet post genetically alchemical modified human. Warhammer is not about representation, is about a terrible place that we like. You want female characters? You have PLENTY of them. There are things that you wouldn’t like as so would I. The background of the Big E changed, atleast how he got Created, the First bit of lore was that a bunch of shamens bashed there heads in with Stones, and then there souls merged and Created the Big E. New lore he Got just normaly born in Anatolia if i remember correctly, was a greate change and took the Goofy stone part out. Necrons Changed From Mindless killers to what we have now, without that change we would not have Trazyn or the Silent King. And the Tau change, it was a bit Meh, they changed them from the Good Guys to the not so good guys because fans dit not like that there are good guys, so they changed it, that was a change people wanted. Female Custodes was not Wanted, and where not needet at all, when it does not matter why then adding them? it does Conflict with the entire Universe and the lore. i want that some one explains to me without using the Words Inclusive and Diverse or other Buzzwords how Female Custodes benefit the lore of 40k? why does at matter that there are Female custodes? i want an Ingame Explanation

Female Custodians doesn't hurt anything, it does nothing to the lore. Besides. I thought the Custodians were the "Best of Humanity" So why wouldn't there be female Custodians? I’m in agreement, female custodes is pretty cool, although I’d like some narrative. The community outrage over it all has spiralled well beyond the realms of what’s acceptable, and both sides have not made the hobby look like a welcoming place

It however has not changed for 40 years until now. So Tell that to their plumeting stock it dropped 20%

Completely changing the gender of one of the most important factions in all of 40k is a big deal. No amount of cope will be able to push this clumsy retcon under the rug as if it’s a minor detail. It’s lazy and involves no thought on there part, if they want females to be more prevalent they have every tool to do so already in the lore, but rather than making some really cool sisters of silent books or a video game they chose the option of least effort. Why should they make an exciting well thought out story, It’s only their job.

You change lore for the better. Adding female custodes doesn't make it better, it just fucks over years of established lore. Either you like grim dark, which is what makes 40k, 40k; or get the fuck out. There is no middle.

I still love how grimdark 40K is, and adding some blurb about a females custodes changed nothing in my belief at how screwed the imperium is and how grimdark the setting is.
