1:25 Accident: Pan Am Flight 7462 (Clipper Royal Fortune) Date: December 17, 1983 Occupants (202 passengers and 18 crew, 220 total) Aircraft: Boeing 747-121H Clipper 7462 was flying over the snowy mountain alps (presumably either French Alps or New Zealand's Mt. Erebus), when suddenly, the no.1 (outboard left engine) *fails catastrophically.* The explosion also caused a severe decompression of the plane's cabin, which damaged much of the flight controls and hydraulic lines, causing their autopilot to disconnect and the plane to bank left & right sharply. As the crew struggles to maintain control but needed to stay at 10,000+ feet, the plane narrowly missed the first mountaintop, but not for the second as they slowly descend. The No. 4 outboard right engine is torn off and the right wing mangled (but didn't tear off) as it collided another mountaintop. The aircraft yawed to the right as a result and collided onto a mountain, tearing off much of the left wing and breaking the aircraft apart in four pieces. The remains of the plane quickly disintegrate as they finally lay to rest, as the wreck barreled down onto the mountains. The crash led to the deaths of 17 out of 18 crew members, and 192 out of 202 passengers on board, leaving only 11 survivors. Sadly though, the surviving crew member and 9 remaining passengers would also die due to the severity of their injuries along with hypothermia. Only one passenger held out and survived before they were found by rescuers on March 4, 1984, around 2 and a half months after the crash.
