Felix was off probably after all these 4 weeks of back to back games and competitions. He did not change his strategy and usually he has the mental and the game level to do it. Hugo has been playing brilliantly and perfecting his game even more recently. I am sure they are going to be great at the Olympics

Something about Calderano's play keeps Lebrun off balance, must be the spin of his shots I guess -- Lebrun's serve return was generally a problem/weak as it looked like Calderano was often able to attack right away

Yes I agree, I think Felix needs to reassess how he returns serve. No matter what the serve is, and in every match, he just pushes it back with a little bat angle to counter the spin but not enough underspin in my view, thus allowing his opponent to make the second ball attack a little too easily. He is such a great player that he often gets away with it because he can beat most players in a top spin rally but Hugo is on top of his game right now and it clearly didn't work. it also won't work against the top Chinese players. I'd like to see him angle his wrist more to put better counter and bottom spin on the ball when returning serve, I think this would really help him. I guess the issue with this is, with his penholder grip he is probably holding the bat quite firmly most of the time, three fingers on the back so he is ready for all-out attacking shots however he should be able to switch between a 'hard' and 'soft' wrist. I play penholder and I can do it - I'm rubbish so if I can, he can too and with a 'soft' wrist you can angle it to make better serve returns.

Hugo has a very effective game plan against Felix, playing well away from the table to soak up and counter the young man's attacking shots and outlasting him in the rallies. Felix getting so frustrated here then trying too hard, hitting the ball with so much pace that he kept messing up. Never looked like getting back into it.

Surtout qu'il a déjà battu Calderano deux fois. Ce dernier a su s'adapter au jeu de Félix qui a manqué de variation dans son jeu j'ai trouvé et moins solide qu'à l'accoutumée. Il aura l'occasion de prendre sa revanche, je ne m'inquiète pas.

Exactly!!! He always plays extremely aggressive, so a minimum wrong decision is lethal for him to lose the point. He plays a very risky style of game. Which makes him lose some matchs. But when his shots decisions are on points, he manages to beat even top chineses, like he already did to Liang Jingkun, Lin Gayouan and Fam Zendhong.

It is quite strange to see no Asian players in the finale...

I don't think you are a Felix fan, since Felix rarely lost against a low ranked player - say player not in the top 15. LGY or LJK are inconsistent. Or can we state that Hugo is inconsistent because last week he lost 4-0 against FZD ?
