FEI Themis Z S/TEM: monochromated STEM-EELS

Ғылым және технология

In this video tutorial (as always, recorded raw, unedited unfiltered, and uncensored), I cover use of the monochromator to reduce (or filter) the energy spread of the incident electrons. The benefits of monochromation are then demonstrated by acquiring an EELS spectrum from titanium dioxide nanoparticles and observing the improved detail in the energy loss near edge structure of the Ti L2,3 core-loss edge.
The topics covered in this video include:
1. principles of monochromation
2. selecting monochromation settings
3. tuning, stigmating, and focusing, the monochromated beam
4. selecting an appropriate monochromated spot size
5. STEM alignment with a monochromated beam
6. adjustments for performing EELS
7. collecting EELS spectra and measuring the energy spread
Thanks for watching! Please like, subscribe, and share and let me know if you have any questions or comments. Video topic requests are always welcome and appreciated; I enjoy making these videos and wish I could make them more frequently, but the demands of my job make it tough to do so; I’m in charge of 3 S/TEMs, 2 dual FIB/SEM systems, and 1 SEM and this keeps me very busy!
