@@fifa_monstah_4852 Ah, true. كرة Kura means "ball" so it's considered a literal translation (calque) of foot ball. فوتبول Fūtbōl is also common in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, as you mentioned. Edit: like the full name in Arabic is kurat al-qadam, which is foot ball. But in vernacular Arabic is only kura.

The word soccer comes from “association football”. Cos you may not know but the idea of sports was essentially invented in a place called Rugby in the England. And back then most things were named football but had different rules, so when a formal ruleset was made it was called “association football”. So technically the word soccer is just as right as football and was a word made by British people.
