Feeling Good - Nina Simone (1965)
Музыка
"Feeling Good" (also known as "Feelin' Good") is a song written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the 1964 musical "The Roar Of The Greasepaint-The Smell Of The Crowd" and has since been recorded by many artists, including Muse, Sammy Davis Jr., Bobby Darin, Traffic, Michael Bublé, The Pussycat Dolls, George Michael, John Barrowman, John Coltrane, Toše Proeski, Frank Sinatra Jr., and Adam Lambert. Perhaps the most famous version was recorded by Nina Simone, and first appeared on her 1965 album "I Put A Spell On You". Simone's version is also featured in the 1993 film "Point Of No Return", in which the protagonist uses the code name 'Nina' and professes to be a longtime fan of Simone's music. At least half the soundtrack for the film featured Nina Simone songs. The song was also featured in the promotional video of the TV series "Six Feet Under" (4th season), and is included in the show's volume 2 soundtrack. Additionally, Simone's version is also included in the 2006 film, "Last Holiday", in the 2010 film "Repo Men", appears as a background track in the 2009 game "The Saboteur" (despite the game taking place in Nazi-occupied Paris, long before the song was made), and is featured in the television series "Chuck" during the third season episode "Chuck Versus The Honeymooners". Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933 -- April 21, 2003), better known by her stage name Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist. Although she disliked being categorized, Simone is most associated with jazz music. Simone originally aspired to become a classical pianist, but her recorded work covers an eclectic variety of musical styles that include classical, jazz, blues, soul, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. Her vocal style is characterized by intense passion, a loose vibrato, and a slightly androgynous timbre, in part due to her unusually low vocal range which veered between the alto and tenor ranges, occasionally even reaching baritone lows. Also known as 'The High Priestess Of Soul', she paid great attention to the musical expression of emotions. Within one album or concert she could fluctuate between exuberant happiness and tragic melancholy. These fluctuations also characterized her own personality and personal life, amplified by bipolar disorder with which she was diagnosed in the mid-1960s, something not widely known until after her death in 2003, though she wrote of it openly in her autobiography published in 1992. According to Nadine Cohodas, Simone's biographer, Ms. Simone was first diagnosed with multiple personality disorder and later with schizophrenia. Simone recorded over 40 live and studio albums, the greatest body of her work released between 1958, when she made her debut with "Little Girl Blue", and 1974. Her music and message made a strong and lasting impact on musical culture, illustrated by the numerous contemporary artists who cite her as an important influence. Several hip-hop musicians and other modern artists sample and remix Simone's rhythms and beats on their tracks. Many of her songs are featured on motion picture soundtracks, as well as in video games, commercials, and TV series. This channel is dedicated to the classic jazz music you've loved for years. Is sad, very sad if anybody knows the history behind this masterpiece. So I learned this was wrote after a little 11 years old black girl was rape and kill by white racists assholes. After so much indifference back in the sixties, Nina decided to leave United States of North America and exile in France. After so much pain on her soul she opt to lie to her own conscience a wrote this unforgettable lyrics. She felt good.
When this song came up during the movie «Perfect Days» (2023), it was so clear and even bright for me. Such a powerful one, and immediately one of my favorite songs ever. Love this tremendously.

Sometimes music can be medicine.. can heal us. Music has the power to change how we feel. Once upon a time, I had built walls around my heart to protect myself. The walls were so high and so thick that you would think it was a fortress. It worked. Nothing was getting in, also, nothing was getting out. But then this song came on my headphones. Almost immediately, the music bypassed every defense and poked me right in the place where feelings lived. You would have thought I was a baby, walking around with tears on my cheeks. God bless you, Nina. Sometimes a song is more than a song, and becomes a feeling. Music can move us, touch us, change how we feel. Music can be inextricably bound with our memories, and a song can bring back stuff from the past (just like a smell does). Music can bring us together.

My mother passed yesterday at 6:15... It is now 7:25 and I heard this song as I'm sitting here crying...I didn't know who the singer was at first..then I googled it... And it's one of her favorite singers...I gave my second daughter Kamiyah the middle name Simone bc Nina Simone was on my mother's favorite singers. That was almost 18 years ago. Perhaps as I was writing my announcement and this song was playing is a sign. I do believe in signs..so did my mother.. I know she is still with me.. I just wish I could see, touch, and hear her again..but one day...I will be made whole again.. along with her and the rest of my friends and family that have passed before me..I love you mommy!

I hope you’re continuing to heal. I believe in signs too. This song represents the feeling of true freedom. I believe she was telling you that she’s “feelin good” in heaven. It’s a “a bew dawn. A new day. A new life” for her. Just like the lyrics say.
This song describes the universal connection between all life and all energy on earth, the breeze, the fish, the river. We all have a common energy. And it feels good.
Feeling Good Birds flying high you know how I feel Sun in the sky you know how I feel Breeze driftin' on by you know how I feel (refrain) x2 It's a new dawn It's a new day It's a new life For me And I'm feeling good Fish in the sea you know how I feel River running free you know how I feel Blossom on the tree you know how I feel (refrain) Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean Don't you know Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean Sleep in peace when day is done That's what I mean And this old world is a new world And a bold world For me Stars when you shine you know how I feel Scent of the pine you know how I feel Oh freedom is mine And I know how I feel (refrain)

Perfection persists
Her voice and the instrument are mystic ❤
As a singer, 2:18 conveyed to me that she was feeling anything BUT good, but all she had was her music. I just cried tears like I knew her or something.
My dad passed away on May 22, 2022. When my uncle said, Mia, he is gone, this is the song that came to my mind! I had so much peace. This song is a part of my grieving and healing process. It serves me for my dad’s freedom of pain and suffering from his medical illnesses. It serves me as a daddy’s girl on this earth without his physical presence and knowing he is still with me because of all he instilled in me, my siblings and all who knew him❤️🙏🏾

I lost my dad in May, 2019 Also from a horrible illness called Lewy-bodies... My dad loved music and would sing often in his beautiful baritone... This song is a celebration of life: the life you've lived and the life to come. I love the Simone and John Legend versions...the Buble version not as much Your dad is free from his maladies now and soaring through the universe in his new permanent life...all the best you cyber friend...peace

She was also a classically trained pianist. She attended Julliard. Her training brilliantly informs her performances.
This song is a lesson in life and all the beauties it has, aside from the bullshit it loves to throw, and being your self. Everlasting and incredible.
Always listening no matter the year.
100 years from now they will be listening to this

You read my mind. I was just picturing Daniel Craig and the last scene in casino royale him holding an gun on his shoulder. Its amazing how our mind has been subconsciously programmed to link to certain things,in this instance its the overall Ambience of the music.

I was extremely happy to hear this song again in the movie Perfect Days. It fit the scene perfectly. For those who haven't seen, please watch it. Excellent slice of life movie.
This song came out the year I was born and I've always been drawn to it and to the amazing Nina Simone! I named my daughter after her I admire her so much!
I love this woman, first I heard her was when I was 21 (1980S) lying in hospital nearly dead & depressed & listening to the radio this voice came & saved me,Thank you Nina xxx
She has more soul than an entire shoe factory. Sing it!!!!!
Im old. Nina will *_never_* go out of style. Trust and believe.
Doesn't matter who sings this or covers it or whatever. Nothing will ever top the OG.
Nina Simone is such a wonderfull artist. Altough she's singing about feeling good, her voice reveals pure sadness and melancholy. I love how she can express so much feelings in such a simple song. Bless you Nina, may the heavens be forever open to you...
