Feeder fishing on the Grand Union Canal

Today you’re joining for a quick fire trip down to the Grand Union canal near Leighton Buzzard , where I’ve left my poles at home and I’m armed only with my feeder rods !

Would love to be out again. But since having my gear stolen a month or so ago. Its stopped me. Gutted. Taken me a long time to get what I had. Will cost me a fortune to get my box. Trolley and all terminal tackle back. Not to mention my rods and pole.

Hi Graham good video. I have a question I use 2 small rubber stops as kickers, what's the benefits of using number 8 stotzs over rubber stops ? Plus do you tighten your tip up or just have a slight bend ? I'm finding that when skimmer fishing the maggots are coming back completely sucked but I didn't see a good enough bite to hit. I'm even pulling feeder back slightly to straighten hooklengh. Any ideas? Or is it just roach sucking the maggots

Hi Rikki, rubber stops and STOTZ are simply a matter of choice for each individual . I prefer to use STOTZ on a short cast , because I’m not putting much pressure on the knot ,and I find I get less tangles when using stotzs,, however if I have to punch the feeder a bit further I would use a preston feeder stop ,the rubber ones , to protect the knot and the line directly behind the knot ,to give a bit more protection from friction of the cast . As for missing bites ,again , if you’re getting bites and not seeing them , there’s lots of ways around that. Possibly fish with braid instead of mono . If you’re targeting bigger fish , then fish a larger bait , so not to get hassle from smaller fish . Also try using a very short hooklength , 6-8 inches . .the chances are , if you’re getting smashed bait and not getting an indication , then the roach are getting to you’re bait before it can get to the bottom , or you’re hooklength is too long . It could be that you’re feeder is letting too many free offerings off as it hits the surface , hence sending the fish up off the bottom to intercept bait falling through the water . Maybe change to a solid window feeder or taped up cage to stop bait coming out of your feeder until it gets to the bottom . Hope that helps buddy 👍

@@grahamwestfishing7945 thanks for the detailed reply. Yeah that makes sense and I was thinking that way. The bigger bream are very few and far between on the lake I fish in winter, they really shut up shop. Skimmer and roach are the safe target fish, you are definitely right because last year I used a 8 inch hooklengh and hit almost every roach bite so you've made me think I need to have 8 inch hooklenghs ready on my side tray because you can only catch whats in front of you. No point me fishing long tails if only roach are present in the swim. Thanks Graham tight lines 👍
