Federer here was defying age , semifinals at 38 on a clay court grand slam is crazy, all went downhill after that Wimbledon final unfortunately

He still won Basel and beat Novak at the ATP Final. But yeah, winning Wimbledon 2019 would have been the ultimate farewell gift.

As an American RF fan I’ll never forget waking up very early in the morning to watch this match. So lucky we got to see Federer at a high level for the last time

I think this quarter-final is one of the most elegant matches in tennis history. One-handed backhands from both players are joy to watch

The two best backhands in all of tennis.

Compare this to two tall double hander backhand players just hitting from the baseline all day and just going for power, better to watch this 4 years later. And huge thanks to Roland Gaross for showing this.

All of Federer's 2019 Slam losses were dramatic matches in one way or the other 1. AO : The 4R against Tsitsipas was full of drama and emotions. Of course, the ballkid incident came at such an important point in the 4th set breaker 2. FO : Federer could never be a favourite against Rafa but he deserved atleast a set here. The playing conditions were horrible throughout the first 2 sets 3. Wimbledon : No need to say anything 4. USO : Just like his 2017 and 2018 losses, this match was going Federer's way but he just couldn't convert on any opportunity and Grigor sealed the deal. This would be a dream year for any player. Federer played at such a high level even at 37 years of age. That in itself speaks volumes of how great he was. Tennis has never been the same without this legend.

Let's not forget that Wawrinka destroyed Roger a few years back in 2015 RG. His favorite surface is clay, and was playing at a high level. The fact that Federer was able to win this one at 37 years old. One of my favorite matches ever.

LOL 😂 You're talking about defeating a healthy Nadal at Roland Garros. Federer has never won against Nadal at RG, let that sink in first.

I think Rafa was even in better shape in 2019 than Roger and he played really during 2019 season, so I think even if the weather hadnt been so bad this day , Rafa would have also won

His one hand back hand is beautiful but with the new technologies racquet gave much more power for younger and bigger opponents At Wimbledon’19 Fed had 2 match points but loss all3 tiebreaker 13-12 in the fifth What if Fed service to the center T .
