Well, would you look at that, I'm back! I've been so busy lately that I haven't had much time (or patience) to edit some siren stuff. But not to fear, I'm hoping to get 2-3 videos up this week to catch back up again.
In the meantime, here's what I got from the great, Big Island siren meetup earlier this year. I think there were about 20+ siren enthusiasts who came and an after-party followed shortly after. I had just as much fun meeting other enthusiasts as I did hearing this beast. We believe this siren came from neighboring Marion, a much larger community east of here that has several Whelens. I suspect it may have been roof mounted, hence the strange mount.
I had my doubts this would even sound. If you curious for an exact location, it's located at the corner of Decliff-Big Island Road & Bumford Road at a small community center. According to neighbors, this siren has a tendency to activate itself at night. In fact, it activated just a few nights prior. I was worried they may have temporarily disconnected it, but shortly after noon this "bolt" roared to life.
Anyways, very cool siren, met very cool people, and also my first successful siren test in Ohio. Hopefully in the near future we can have another big meetup like this.

Most sirens in licking county ohio are whelens or thunderbeams. But i did find a thunderbolt 1000 or 1003 on top of a chase bank in downtown Newark ohio. Its rotator does not work but still sounds off.

i came back to this video like, just today and i have a question. How do you get your recordings to sound like You're actually there? It really does feel like i'm there. Do you use multiple mics? XD

Yes, I have about three audio recorders that I setup. One goes by my camera, the other under the siren or behind a wall, and another goes inside the car with the scanner. Then I mix them all together in editing software.

The siren is rusty but it’s still functional!
I'd love to see, and record, a Thunderbolt (any t-bolt's fine) in person! I just don't know if Iowa has one. I know Clinton Iowa (My hometown, and state) doesn't have any. I don't know how to look it up on Google Earth, either. Heh. SOMEONE HELP ME!!

in that case, you must be thinking of chopper 5, since 5 is the default setting and most bolts are set on chopper 5

That's all personal preference, because I'd rather prefer chopper 2 or 3 over chopper 4

it's probably ran out of oil. fed sigs sirens do that. or the rotator is set on level 3.

Come to Napoleon Ohio! We have 2 of these. One is in great condition and the other.. Not so much. Lighting and high winds got to it... It sounds awful and the rotator is broke.

@@connorw07extras40 That is a 2. The louvers are much more angled down, oppose to a Model 5 where they are angled like 30º. The Model 2 however, it does look big. Maybe he was very close. (15-25 feet) and it gives the illusion that it is big. Gotta think before you say.

This meetup took place back in February, there was some snow on the ground in some areas.
Nice video! It activates itself at night!?!? wow, that would be like a ghost pushing the buttons! scary! I think the problem is the radio its getting interference and it activates from the interference from the radio.
