Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000T, Alert - Niles, IL

Ойын-сауық

Filmed on June 6, 2017
2019 UPDATE -- This might be a Village of Glenview siren.
Monthly test of the Niles warning sirens is done on the first Tuesday of the month at 10 AM. Normally, Niles only does a minute or so of Alert, but I was surprised to hear this guy go off for three today! This Thunderbolt 1000T, and the other one in Niles, have a rotor box that belongs to a 1003. In total, Niles has this 1000T, another 1000T, a 1003, and 2 2001-SRN sirens.

If you put the speed a 1.05 in the playback speed in settings above quality, it sounds like salter parks Thunderbolt. The way you change it is in Custom Speed above the 0.25 in playback speed

I don’t think this is on Glenview’s system, but I guess the only way to find out is to put the scanner on Niles’ frequency and see if it keeps going after the cancel tones. Could be that it ignores the tones too. Also Niles has 2 thunderbolts, and it is just this and the unreliable 1003

This is one interesting 'bolt. Ex-1003 as you can see by the rotator box.

ChicagoSirens That’s ok. And nice! I have the same model. What quality do you record in? I have problems with my footage looking bad because it records in 1080i 60 FPS.

I never changed the settings on mine. I don't even know I can. I am considering investing in a new camera, like the one Bill has, because I hate the way my videos come out. They just seem so blurry.

ChicagoSirens Ok. Yea I would recommend canon or Panasonic. The 110 is a pretty old camera. Your image will definitely be less blurry with a newer camera.

I pass this one every day on my way to work. I'd bet it's not Glenview, I'm thinking Niles. All of the Glenview Thunderbolts I've seen have the original cabinets, this one has (I'm assuming) an RCM and a newer Federal controller in a white box. Also, I think this is a 1000. My camera has a really good clear zoom, I think the rotator tag says 1003 but the RCM says 1000.

This is an Ex-1003, meaning it was stripped of its bow-tie, original weather cap, and original horn support bar. So this one was made up of parts which is interesting.

@@United_HVAC_and_Fans Close but not quite. This one was born a 1000T (later realized I was wrong about it being a 1000) The reason it has a 1003 rotator box is because it was a late 80s early 90s siren. It was built close to when Federal discontinued the Thunderbolt, and they were using whatever leftover parts they had on the shelf to get rid of them instead of making new parts. The same is true for the now replaced Thunderbolt off of Lehigh ave in Niles. There is a video of that one on KZread before the blower was hit by a car, then it got replaced with a 2001. The Niles 1003 at the park is an original 1003, somewhere I saw the serial number dated it somewhere in the 1960s. It would be more work than it’s worth in my opinion to convert a 1003 into a 1000T, you’d have to cover up the holes left by the solenoid wiring and re drill holes for the horn support, or replace the horn assembly. Makes more sense to just disconnect the solenoids and leave the solenoid box in place.

@@NicksGarageDoorService well the description of this siren on the thunderbolt sirens in existence map say its an Ex-1003, and they do a lot of research and are very smart people. Not saying you are wrong, jist saying i trust them more. Glade to see you are still active. Any plans on making more videos?

@@United_HVAC_and_Fans I’d like to see the proof they have of that, from what I found there were more sirens delivered this way around the country that were never 1003s. I would probably believe it if it was only one siren in the same city but there was a second like this. I would like to make some videos but we finished the garage and my collection is difficult to access. Most likely there won’t be any more videos until I get my own house.

@@NicksGarageDoorService its serial T-2593-D which would make this a mid-late 60s unit. It was probably refurbished in the late 80s-early 90s so yeah just a 1003 that was stripped of its solenoids.
