Federal Punch 38 Special Ballistic Test!

Спорт

Mr Revolver is on the range with the new-ish Federal Punch in 38 Special as well as the classic 158 grain lead semi-wadcutter hollow point Train and Protect round from Federal. He's using his Taurus revolvers to test this rounds and see if they're suitable for EDC

Most people that carry 38 special have tiny revolvers like J frames or an LCR. I have a big revolver but I shoot 357magnums with it and it's more of a range gun since it's big and heavy.

What i settled on was a federal punch loaded in a 357 mag case with 6.2gr of titegroup...probably putting it in the 38spl +p+ range(hence the 357 case, so I dont run in an airweight lol). That load gets 1050fps from a 2" and 1100fps in a 4". Honestly perfect expansion. Out of an sp101, it feels good.

Back in the early 80's the 357 load I caried was the Winchester 125 gr. Silver Tip. Anymore, when I carry 357 it's usually in the wild. I load up my Marlin 1894c and My 6" Taurus 689 with 158gr. rfn over a charge of Lil'gun. Porky Pig says "Th-Th-Th-That's all folks." In town I'm a fan of my 40 S&W.

Average Male Chest Depth Finally, the average man has a chest depth of 10.0 inches (25.4 cm) from front to back. And the standard range is from 9.0 inches (22.8 cm) to 11.0 inches (28.0 cm). What internal organs are not within the 10-inch zone? NONE.

Humans and ballistics gel are not a 1:1 medium. A bullet that penetrates only 10 inches in gel is likely to under penetrate in a human being, especially if presented with a shot more complex than an unobstructed frontal chest shot

Its current year grandpa, wheelguns can take higher pressures than your Model 10. if I wanted a low recoil snubbie I would be shooting a 6 shot 32 S&W / 327 magnum instead.

@@pinkhead6857890 lol, I guarantee that on any given day I could outshoot you just using my weak hand. 357 Mag out of a small frame revolver doesn’t provide a significant ballistic advantage over 38 Special, certainly not enough to be worth the penalty in recoil and shootability. I get it, you’re like 15 and you’re terminally online, but since you’ve never fired a round for blood or money you don’t really have capacity for this conversation.
