Feb 2019 Storm Erik off Mudeford Quay, Windsurfers loving it.

Mudeford, Christchurch, Dorset UK 8th Feb 2019, Storm Erik. A very high tide coupled with strong winds has created a storm surge. Mudeford Quay, normally 3 or 4 feet above the water in the summer, and packed with children crabbing with lines and buckets, has waves breaking over the wall. Not much crabbing going on today! The only people out are dog walkers (needs must) and wild windsurfers. Oh, and a few people with cameras like me. The few boats that have been left on moorings in Christchurch Harbour are being tossed around like corks, there will be some damage done for sure by the time this one has blown through. Meanwhile, up at Christchurch Quay, the wind is a lot less violent, but water levels are rising. It has been a lot worse than this in the past though, so a lucky escape this time for the lowest lying properties here.

Thanks for sharing! I was most disappointed not to see any coverage of the actual harbour. When I was a teenager *cough* mid-to-late 80's *cough*, I used to fairly exclusively sail back and forth across the bay, as the wind was pretty consistent, and there was only chop, no swell or waves, and you can stand up almost everywhere, except the marked channel. What a ride it was, scudding along in a gale, with only your own idiocy risking your life, rather than "the sea" (I had a Mum to keep sane, and I am mildly frightened of the actual sea)... Something something JAWS, something seaweed.
