Excellent Video, Man... Love your secret Sauce adaptation. It is similar to Evans' E-rings which I use on my Maple Toms. I'm getting very tempted to get this Tomahawk Snare.

How do you tune your Tomahawk Reso? Table tight? I sometimes struggle with my Tomahawk to get a nice and tight sound without overtones. Awesome Video!

Man, thanks for sharing this. I was wondering about all the tape, but now it all makes sense. Pretty incredible difference with that extra batter head on and off. Makes this snare drum sound super versatile for sure! I have 4 snares and switching them out at gigs is a pain. Nice job brother!

Mike Salter Yup!!! Now that I’m a Drumdots user, I have almost no need for tape...except to keep plies of mylar together. Lol I used to do a residency at Whiskey Row, and I would bring that extra batter head with me to go back and forth with tones. Love it!

The one above the hi hat? That’s just a 20” A Custom Crash. The one above the ride is 20” A Custom EFX Crash. Maybe the angle makes them look bigger? 🤷🏾‍♂️

@@MaestroLaVille looking like a 22” crash! To be fair even 20” is big for a crash! Amazing playing though. Love Mapex, been using a Saturn Series kit for a while now - 8/10 rack toms and 14/16 floor toms, 20 on the kick. Snares - Blaster 13x7, Blade 14x5.5, Vintage Mapex Brass Master 14x6.5 and an old school Black Panther 12x7 when they first released (similar to the fastback but gloss black finish). Think they have some of the best snares money can buy value wise.

Did you watch the whole video? I filmed three (of many) different ways to tune, and have recorded with this drum with a variety of tuning styles over the last couple of years. If the video was “obsolete”, Mapex wouldn’t have sponsored it and it wouldn’t be available for you to watch and comment on in the first place. C’mon, bro.

Thank you for the love, Doug! Yes, it’s difficult to showcase a snare if you don’t add the tuning range. I love this snare tuned down man, it has such a vibe!

I have the tomahawk and I also have an older 14" by 5.5 1mm black panther premium steel snare. They are possibly the most similar snares I have. Honestly my black panther is essentially the older brother of the blade. And being totally honest the tomahawk sounds amazing but the black panther sounds the same but has much better build quality. The fact that the tomahawk comes with a ut hazy head really hampers it along with the snare wires which are trash along with this the lugs are awful feel like they are full of sand. Great snare for the price point but honestly pick up a second hand blade or black panther they sound just as good and have much better build quality. Amazing drumming such a nice chill style which rips.

Hey, dude! Thanks for the comment! Snare drums are so particular and personal-varying from drummer to drummer. I love this drum, along with my Black Panther Solidus (7x14) I’ve been using a lot lately. I enjoy the variety and the difference in tone you get from a steel shell like the Tomahawk. Like most snare drums, you’ll most likely need to swap wires and heads to grab the best results for your individual sound. Thanks again, bro! Hope to hear you play soon!
