Fearless like a child -- overcoming adversity | Jack Kavanagh | TEDxTallaght

Jack Kavanagh a young student broke his neck doing something he had done hundreds of times that summer. Here he tells his inspirational story of how he had to adapt to a new normal and how he is determined to win back his independence , learning important lessons from his own childhood.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Admirable! I had a terrible skydiving accident where I broke many bones including my sacrum in 5 pieces. I had to learn to walk again after months in bed without moving an inch. I became like a baby and my mother had to take care of me completely. You adjust... after years I started riding horses and now I’m riding the higher levels and competing. It was brutal and the pain was a pain I never even knew existed. You get very depressed but your mind adjusts. Man is hyper resilient. I admire your strength very sincerely. Man I wish I could hug you like from one human being that knows how hard it is to another.

Thanks Jack. At a low point struggling with disease I searched for a video to give me a boost. I don't think I could have found anything better. Attitude is everything, you brave and inspiring soul. Thank you.

This man’s testimony is just awesome! We can learn so much from leaders like him. He has had every excuse to give in to the fear, let it define him, and go through the motions for the rest of his life. But NO....Just watch it! It just may inspire you to be more fearless than you have ever been. God bless you, Jack Kavanagh, for sharing your testimony with the world! It matters, and will continue to matter, to me, my wife, and to my children. You’ve inspired us to be better, more fearless versions of ourselves.

What a truly inspiring, courageous, brave young man who has faced such adversity and is on a new road in his life. But a road paved with positivity, endurance, strength and a great sense of humour. You are a great role model Jack for anyone young or old who had their life turned upside down in one life changing ordeal. I wish you all the very best and a life worth living to the best of your ability which I know you will. Your interview on Tommy Tiernan was one of the best he has had on his show.

Jack, I found your TedTalk after reading about your speaking to the students at Clongowes. Excellent message. I'm a Jesuit priest in NYC working in the city jail and will share your thoughts with the young men there. Thanks.

Just watched Jack's documentary on tv. Hit me pretty hard to see a young man faced with such adversity. I can see 'inspirational' written so many times here, so I'll refrain and say I'd admire Jacks courage and iron will. I really hope people will gain some strength and hope from this talk, no matter how big or small their problems are.

Very nice. However, this is my life and I plan to live it fully!!!! I was born disabled and it is no more a challenge than any other person's life. We all, that is, people, look different, but we all encounter and experience life's trials and challenges; just some of us purportedly get more challenges and highs from our accomplishments to experience--the lucky ones--us-the allegedly disabled. LOL ( :
