    I don't play a lot of video games, so I was one of those "why the hell would you want to play a game that's unbelievably difficult and stressful," but honestly watching this I kind of get it now. It's not that you're dying constantly, it's that you're constantly on the VERGE of dying, and that actually makes it super compelling. This is interesting to watch.

    35:40 it's funny, because Termina is many, many times easier than the first game, and doesn't have a Terror & Starvation mode yet, so I wonder if he could, in theory, one shot it on a first try (without restarting a character)

    I disagree, Funger has unlimited saves and empty scrolls. The only difficult part is getting to Le'garde before the 30 minute timer and trying to keep your torch supply up on Terror and Starvation. Termina's difficulty depends on what kind of ending you want. Morning 1 Ending A runs are more difficult than anything in Funger 1. Also maso mode

  • @paradiseegg2111

    @paradiseegg2111

    @@thickblacklava760 Good point! But, also, Termina's resource management is way easier, since you get so much food, sanity restoring items and affliction healing items. Plus you don't have to worry about darkness and torches. Not talking about the Maso mode of course, that's not for normal people, it's for psychos, lmao. I guess in the end of the day it all depends on which game you spent the most time on! I might just think that Termina is easier because I played it wayy more than the original.

    My dude, if you get an empty scroll + quill or get the soul of the endless (either by using a soul stone on caharas corpse or killing skinny granny) try to get the Engarde ability asap. It allows you to get a free turn at the start of the battle by holding 'shift', and thus either flee or get free damage on them. It's essential for a good run imo.

    I've been stuck thinking about this game for a while now and one thing I think makes it so interesting is the availability of hard counters. Escape plan completely counters taking the blade, because the ghost is not a problem if you can almost gurantueed run. Bear traps counter a lot of things, but especially the starting guards (ogres). Even stuff like the healing spell counters needing healing in exchange for mind, the dark pirest counters losing limbs because he can become the marriage, etc, lockpicking counters almost all locked doors...There's so much impact in the items, character choices and skills. Classic jRPGs mostly just do "gain 5% of X" where X is damage/defense/magic damage/evade/etc. . Another game that does hard counters well and is just excellent is Slay the Spire. More games need hard counters!

    These videos are just fantastic. I usually hate watching streams but you're so naturally funny and the effort put into the editing makes this SO good to watch. You're still dicked though; you're going to die.

    was happy to see some small recompense to the Buck Bumble Enjoyers timestamped in the description, but uh...then I watched the clip and didn't see anything? where was the apology, Mr. Patch Wolf? some of us didn't expect to have our first N64 game so casually and callously trampled upon, sir! also, thank you for introducing me to Fear and Hunger, that video was really well put together and I'm glad to know more about it and stumbled into the other folks making essays about it on YT. playing this game feels like a chore, but the lore and aesthetic is so fascinating and compelling, I want to try the sequel sometime soon
