FDNY Auto Extrication | L169 E202 Bay Ridge Brooklyn
FORT HAMILTON, Brooklyn - Two vehicles involved in a collision Sunday morning at 92nd St & 7th Ave right next to Poly Prep High School left a driver trapped in the vehicle. FDNY Ladder 169 & Engine 202 cut the door open and extricated the victim who was ambulatory on the scene, assessed by NYU EMTs, and signed a refusal of medical assistance. The driver who was hit stated he was pulling out of a parking spot when Driver 2 was going 85mph southbound on 7th ave. Driver 2 who hit Driver 1 stated Driver 2 was doing an illegal u-turn. Driver 2 reported no injuries. Airbags were deployed on both vehicles.

At least they both drove Volvos. Safest car on the planet.
volvos are built like tanks it held up well
I’m a firefighter in the military and I gotta agree I’ve seen better training. They should have also cut the hinges and removed the whole door so the patient doesn’t have to work as hard to get out (although gladly he didn’t look too hurt) and the vehicles suspension should have been isolated. FDNY does set the tone but maybe they are just trained differently as well.

lmao military= you dont do shit
For all of you who question what they are doing. If you look at some of the training videos they will clearly admit the FDNY way is different. It fits NYC and what they have found to be the best in their city. It may not satisfy those outside the city but I will tell you that the firefighters in the NY-NJ-Conn region as a general group respect them.
The female EMT was looking good today! :))) I live in NYC and want to be a firefighter and get on the ladder or tower ladder.

Thank goodness he was okay, I didn’t want to see the yellow blanket cover around the vehicle.
Cute paramedic
Rare to see a two car crash in New York where both vehicles are from two different states.
Thank you God for fire and rescue....pray we never need them to help us .....these are true heroes
FDNY. Prepared for anything!
I saw a video on KZread of several Jewish people trying to get someone out of a white SUV in NYC I think it was the same one, taken immediately after the accident.
Thankfully the driver managed to get out of the car and on to the paramedic trolley and didn’t look to bad witch if you look at the drivers side of the car he is lucky he wasn’t seriously injured
Könnte mir bitte jemand sagen, was die Abkürzung "EMT" bedeutet ? Grüße aus München/Germany !
I wanna know why some are not wearing all of their PPE.

I retired as a firefighter from 20 years of service and if we did this shit we would be kicked off the scene. So you guys STFU and learn your s**t.

People in the comments will criticize the work, but are not willing to do the work.
Your eyes guys..watch your eyes....our sight is very precious, a gift from God...where are your eye protection gear?
Why are they raking the hood off the car? Are they someone out thru there? Is anyone still in the car? I think these are guys are just playing around --after the nan us taken out--isn't their job done?
@greyman686

They're going into the hood area to do a disconnect of the battery. Pretty common thing.
Nice safety glasses!
wow.
Where are your safety glasses?
I’m guessing the driver RMA’d?
What's the use of sending a ladder truck to a car accident?

The ladder isn't always used at every job.

That's not the question? Why send a LT to a car accident anyway?

He was closest to an unconfirmed pinjob. Pinjob = person trapped in vehicle.

Does a LT carry cutting tools then? The LT arrives after the first FE with crew arrived? So still makes no sense to me to send an LT. We'd have send a normal FE (a Tank-Pumper) and a HV (I think you call that a RV) if the pumper does not carry cutting eq.

Ladder companies carry the tools for the job, Engine companies do not.
So... White Volvo: Still driveable, driver is uninjured but waits to be cut out of the car instead of just going out the passenger door. What a waste of oxygen.🤔

There's cowboy, then there's stupid. Doing extrication, especially with a partner saw, without eye pro is just stupid. No excuses, just stupid.
Safety glasses.Or at least put your helmet on and shield down.
Seriously?
Volvo vs. Volvo both GG
None of them have any eye protection on, WHY???????
Why even pop the door? Couldn’t crawl out the other side?

Patient movement must be minimalized to prevent further possible injury, especially to spine, which are a common injury in MVAs.

Only problem with that is no one is inside the vehicle stabilizing, the emt put the collar away and up to date nexus protocol goes right out the window.

I think its pretty shitty that he waited, uninjured, to be cut out of the car. Its obvious that he made no attempt to see if anyone else in the accident was injured. (I say uninjured because at the end you see him get out of the ambulance and limp on the other leg back to his car.)
Stuff like this kinda gets to me, the dude clearly wasn't hurt as he got up out of the car by himself. The EMTs didn't think neck trauma was a risk (otherwise they would have used a brace). His car was still drivable (the cop moved it at the end of the film). The driver should be fined for causing a public disturbance and creating a hazard by not moving his car before engaging with firefighters or EMTs. If your vehicle isn't disabled it is your responsibility to move it from the active roadway.

Most of what you said made sense, however he was the driver in a serious collision. He is not expected to be in his right mind after such an experience, especially considering he would be in far worse physical condition if it was any other car than a Volvo.
Yes, FDNY needs your advice.
So many keyboard firemen here, they have been to many accidents it's routine for them
I guess safety goggles aren't required in the NYFD?
Slow motions. In germany all running!
Short summary: Bad gripping No fire protection Old tools No fully PPE Not the best tactics The patient walks at the end and 5 mins before he was stuck in a vehicle bit contradictory.
