The Salk vaccine (polio) took under 3 years. Research into how mRNA could be delivered into cells was developed in the 1970s. Then tested in mice in the 1990s. A rabies version for humans was tested in 2013. In the US, 230M people have had at least one COVID mRNA shot. 5.5B worldwide. Now, all they have to do is tweak it for the current variants. Just like with annual flu shots. They don't have to completely start over.

@@wzune6513 Way off on the Polio vaccine started in 1935 thru testing in 1945. Then failures in 1950, then 54, 55 and was redone in 61 and then again in 87. The first possible vaccine for the use mRNA was developed in 88, went thru testing on mice and rats in 95 where it failed, it was used on Ebola patients where it failed, used in 2003 Sars outbreak where it failed. Tweaking as you call it for new variants will always be a quest unfulfilled because Covid and its genetic structure largely that being of the corona virus that causes a common cold gives it vast mutation abilities and since it can jump species there will never be a vaccine for it.

Do you know how often the virus mutates? It can mutate so quickly they drug companies will never get ahead of this thing. This is a manufactured virus from Wuhan China and they released it to see what the reaction would be of governments trying to fight. NO. The FDA approves the vaccine for efficacy/safety and sets the 1) INDICATION for medication/vaccine which is for whom and what condition the vaccine is officially approved and 2) DOSAGE, etc. The FDA does not recommended or make a vaccination schedule (guidelines). The CDC sets vaccination schedules based on ACIP recommendations. So the recommendations for the new vaccines are NOT out yet because the FDA does not decide that. The doctor is likely correctly anticipating what the CDC will recommend.

Unfortunately I can no longer receive the mRNA vaccine. I wish the vector vaccines were stil updated because then I can see if I have the same reaction with those. I’m just thankful I’m not on Rituxan and methotrexate anymore.
