Fawn Wood Sings Remember Me
May 5th marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit+ People (MMIWG2S+), which coincides with “Red Dress Day.”
Fawn Wood took a moment to share with us the hauntingly beautiful song, "Remember Me," written by her uncle - Randy Wood. This song has become a call to remember those MMIWG2S+ People that we tragically no longer have in our lives. Together, we can bring this critical issue out of the darkness and into the light.
Fawn will be offering one of our K-12 workshop on the topic of Storytelling Through Song during Moose Hide Campaign Day - May 11, 2023. To learn more about the many workshops being offered, please visit: moosehidecampaign.ca/workshops

Red Dress Day was started over 11 years ago by Jaime Black, a Metis artist, who created a public display of red dresses to raise awareness of this critical issue facing our country:

Cole was a young and peaceful young indegiunos man who got his life taken from him at the young age of 27. He was found unalived with his long braids cut off. This was done by Alexis Zabara. No matter the situation they shouldnt have touched his hair. Its disrespectful. Rest in peace Cole Brings Plenty.
My husband, sons and I had this song played at our daughter's funeral❤ She said that if anything happened to her that she wanted this played at her funeral..... She was an amazing and beautiful young lady❤️ She passed away of COVID pneumonia two years ago💔😭 She has Choctaw and Cherokee in her.... ❤️ .

I'm so, so sorry for yours and your family's loss. That is so devastating and painful. It must be so hard. You're so strong. Praying for you, your daughter, and the rest of your family, and sending you all lots of love. ♥♥♥

Our stolen sisters are smiling at you from the sky. Remember, they're home and safe with the people we love. We'll see them again on the other side.

Me and my wife sing this song to our son before he goes to sleep.

That is beautiful
every now and again my Mom would sing in our Native language, I can still call up some of the verses every now & again but I honestly do not know what I'm singing, i know it is comforting and reverent.
I went to a funeral yesterday where this was played yesterday , had never heard this beautiful song until then , I will remember you in the morning when the sun comes up , Mandy , Mya , Bethany, Jayven and Isabella
Great Dia De Los Muertos song, for the gravesite of a loved one.
