FAVOURITE FIVE: My Absolute Go- to Ecoline Colours

I have a LOT of art materials, I am ashamed to admit and I use almost all of them. But every set of materials has some that I use more than others and then, there are the favourites. My top five that I panic about when I see them running low.
This is a new art series where I pull out my favourite five from each set of art materials (coloured pencils, paints, markers etc), explain them, explain why I love them, swatch them for you and then use them in a little sketch.
Please feel free to let me know in the comments if you have an art material that you would like featured and I will do my very best for you.

I am loving that KZread decided to show me your channel! I too am a sucker for new art supplies, but the great think is discovering something new that fits into my kit perfectly. 😍 Enjoyed seeing how you use your Ecoline pens. I bought a very vibrant set about 18 months ago for fashion illustration, and the only two that have been used consistently are the cold grey light (738) and pink beige (374) both of which I love as I can put my pencils over the top. Will have to check my local art store here in NL to see their range of inks and hopefully change some of the more 'vibrant' pens to be more muted. 😎

I am pleased that you found me too! Absolutely worth a try to mute them down to what you need. I am very much a muted colour person and I have developed all sorts of tricks to make my colours do what I would like. Have fun and I hope that you find some nice inks! Deb xx

Oh yes- I REALLY feel guilty about saying this but they are essential in a mixed media kit (IMHO). D xx

Thank you so much! It really helps to map out the areas of colour doesn't it. And I adore the effects that you can get by glazing over the top. D xx

I have the ecoline nude set but I don't actually use them. I really should start, this looks like an excellent way to speed up the proces of a drawing.

They are fabulous for filling in shapes and getting the drawing going. The nude set would be so versatile too! Deb xx

I am looking forward to your thoughts on acrylic markers. I would also love to hear your recommendations and experiences on papers/sketchbooks for multimedia art sometime. I am mostly experienced with 100% cotton watercolor paper cold press. Not sure where to start with paper for multimedia for best results. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community.

Acrylic markers are certainly in the mix I am happy to say! I think that a bit of a look at papers is a great idea too. We tend to go for the 'fun stuff' and perhaps not spend so much time on what we are working on. Right! Thank you so much for two fab ideas. I shall get planning! Deb xx

Great video, thank you. Do you only use the Ecoline in sketchbooks due to their lack of lightfastness?

You are most welcome! Yep, pretty much! It is disappointing and I hate having to remember not to use them in finished artworks.

Your Cassel Earth might be a dud actually, it's unfortunately quite common in all of Caran d'Ache's product lines to find the odd pencil that's way dryer and scratchier than it should be.

I thought that too tbh but I ordered another (about a year later) and it is pretty much the same. There can be pigment variations. Pity when they cost a premium price! Deb xx
