    @@jonnyb.animationstutorials7119 maybe. But isn't speaking with an American (excluding the extremes) accent far easier than most British accents? Just think about all the american actors that tried speaking British accents and how horrible it sounds. Also most non-native-speakers adopt something that sounds like American English rather quickly.

    Nobody asked, but my favorite "House" quote is from a first season episode, where House is saying how he's different from Foreman's old mentor, who thinks it's good enough to follow established procedures, and if patients die, oh well. House's approach, of course, is to do whatever will save the patient's life. House finishes up with: "He sleeps better at night. He shouldn't."

    @@bluescluessuperagent That's because you're better at spotting the mistakes in English accents. Most American accents aren't done super well considering the specific accent that's being attempted, we just have s many variations of each accent that getting things wrong doesn't make the accent less convincing. Essentially, Americans talk in illogical ways that don't make sense when you take the accent they're supposed to have into question, so someone faking the accent had more wiggle room. Just go watch accent experts look at actor's fake accents and you'll see how much slips through.

  • @ReinoldFZ

    @ReinoldFZ

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@NeilLewis77 I think, and I know it is wrong to generalize as South America has countries with more European societies as the Chilean or Uruguayan, is because the choice of religion competes with identity and prosperity. U.S. religions in my immediate reality (a city where trade is important) are popular and people changes from one sect to another according to how wealthy they get. In Peru thanks to our ancestral religions also there are some rules that govern etiquette that permeates to economics, even if a person is not a believer. I'd say the fact that religions compete, the local ones, the others that came from Europe and Africa, the new ones from the U.S., Korea and even Brazil, somehow has taken a kind of market, each religion turns into a kind of magic to get more wealth, most of our presidents (it doesn't matter of they are native red, or Asian or from Northern European ancestry) don't attempt new enterprises to get and preserve power without asking first to tarot or coca leaf readers, the same for the poorest that at least will pay to the Earth (challar) so a business will have good results. Greetings and sorry for the extension of the message, I am from the Andean plateau.

  • @NeilLewis77

    @NeilLewis77

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ReinoldFZ very interesting my friend. Seems bizarre to me to think of religions competing for members. Where I'm from about 90 percent of people have no religion. It's never brought up. No one goes to any church. No one has any interest in it. And that applies to rich and poor people. Old and young. Northern or southern. To say we grew out of it would be the wrong phrase. But on the whole, everyone in the UK has abandoned all religions and it's working out great. Hopefully one day all nations will abandon religion and that will be the end of most wars.

  • @ReinoldFZ

    @ReinoldFZ

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@NeilLewis77 I think religion is just a safety frame to go along the life without worrying much about questions. Most of my European acquaintances indeed have no interest in any religion, at best they treat it as a cultural patrimony. But I think war is rather a human trait than a consequence of religion (although monotheistic ones are sometimes quite fiery) there will be other reasons or ideologies (a safety frame to give sense to troublesome questions) to wage war. Oh, and by the way religions compete for members but members too chase the best one or more convenient, as in our beliefs there is not much of an afterlife a religion should be good if you do well.

    ***** I think America would be a dangerous country to live in without the guns, although marginally less. The real danger is in this American (sub-?) -culture that favours nationalistic, male power-fantasy thinking. Honestly, if these guns'r'all people would stop behaving like they grew up solely on '80's action movies, it would be so much less of a problem. You would never hear a Swiss person talk like that. They are, by and large, peace-loving, sensible and meek

    sarcastic bowl of cornflakes Ah, see: I knew that about Switzerland and assumed it would be the same in the US. So the restrictions so many Americans are against are maybe just "restrictions" as in, people will still be able to buy weapons, but the gun licence will require the owner to be sane and trained?

  • @neglesaks

    @neglesaks

    Herfinnur Árnafjall put the stereotypic thinking on the shelf. The majority of gun violence is related to inner city crime, specifically drug-territory crime. Most gun owners are sensible people, not least due to having a weapon teaches responsibility. Oh, and women own guns too. Guess they must have bought into the male power fantasy too.

  • @neglesaks

    @neglesaks

    sarcastic bowl of cornflakes "Owning a gun no more teaches responsibility than owning a car does" There a nugget of truth in that claim and a large bucket full of ignoring human motivation. Dangerous tool + idiotic operator = dead operator or an operator that is very quickly thrown in the stockade for manslaughter. People are stupid, but most tend to learn from the mistake of others if the results of the others stupidity is severe enough. "People are irresponsible with both all the damned time." Some are, yes. How many motor vehicles are owned in the US? 75 million? 100 million? How many are operated daily of these many millions? How many are used in a way that is either grossly negligent or outright criminal, resulting in grievous bodily harm? 1ppm? 10ppm? ".Except at least in the case of cars they serve purposes other than simply being dangerous." This shows that you have a deeply simplistic understandiing of what a firearm is. You are wholly ignoring that a gun, despite being a wespon, is also a *tool* used by people for self-defense. Using the same flawed understanding on cars would have you claim that cars are solely tool used for vehicular manslaughter because you choose to only look ath its negative uses and consequences.

  • @neglesaks

    @neglesaks

    "The person considering attacking will always have the element of surprise. So they can always get their gun out" The far majority or crimes and would-be crimes that a handgun helps protect against are home burglaries and rapes, both of in the absoklute majority of cases are perpetrated without a handgun. "If I'm a criminal, and I want to commit a violent crime, I'll want to defend myself from potential victims, so there is a 100% chance that I'll make sure I'm better armed than any of the people I'm planning on choosing as victims." That argument has been tried *many* times, and it looks nice on paper, but betrays that you simply are not familiar with the crime occurrences and the collected statistics in the field. You can easily look up the stats en masse on the subject of hand gun defense and how crimes are pepetrated. Your entire stance betrays that you have never done so in your life and are solely relying to ideas that others have foisted on you. I could say something about being idiotic in the same league as you did to me, but I'll make you mood less unpleasant and tell you that ignorance is generally not a permanent affliction, and that you have plenty of room to grow and enlighten yourself.

    ***** Except is obviously isn't. Take the bible as an example, arguably its main code of morality is the 10 commandments. Now while several of these are good moral codes e.g. no murder and no theft these laws existed in many societal codes before the book was written, an example being the 12 tables in the Roman Empire. There's no prohibition on slavery, rape or genocide in these commandments possibly because of the amount of it that happens later in the book. Either that or they just don't think they are worth prohibiting.

  • @Browningate

    Cynical Lawman I don't understand how that makes it not an absolute basis. When you say that there is "no prohibition on slavery, rape or genocide in these commandments", that's just not so. The Bible clearly frowns upon those activities (in fact, all three of those fall under the ten commandments themselves, specifically).

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help." Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" This is what your holy book teaches.How is this not violent or intolerant? Have you even READ your shitty holy-book? Maybe you should read something, because you obviously haven't read the book which you blindly put all your faith in.

    We've reached a stage in Britain where a politician's religion or lack there of is of no interest to voters. It would be political suicide for politicians to say they make their decisions about legislation based on their religious beliefs. There's great religious freedom in Britain, but we demand that laws are passed based on secular & humanitarian morality. BTW I've been referring to Britain not the UK. Britain consists of England, Scotland & Wales. The UK consists of Britain & Northern Ireland. In Northern Ireland a politician's religion is important, but the sectarian conflict is not a religious war, it's a tribal one. I'm a keen observer of US politics, it astounds me that creationists get elected to high office.

    St. Rawman That's true, & it reflects the fact that Britain is not as religious as the US. But many US politicians are not as religious as they claim to be. Statistically there must be many closet agnostics, & maybe even a few atheists. :-) Though what the difference is just a matter of semantics. My point is that here in Britain politicians can declare themselves to be devout Christians or gnostic atheists, & we think, interesting? Now what the hell do you propose to do about the solving our problems?

    I miss Larry. And I’m sad for the world that doesn’t have Larry in it.

    2:12 Tony Blair for example had to conceal that he turns into a gremlin when you drip fossil oil on his head after midnight, in order to get elected.

    +Derek Johnson Idk what your nationality is (I'm American btw) but technically I think all accents in Great Britain could be considered "British" accents. Including English, Scottish, etc... But specifically, yes, he has an English accent.
