Great list, great intelligent reviews. Michael Pollan--Have a couple on my shelves and need to get to them. All the Beauty in the World sounds so good. The audio is one I will be looking for. If you like art woven into a story I would so recommend What I Love by Siri Hustvedt. fiction about an art critic and an artist--contemporary.

Your mention of Caravaggio makes me really want to recommend 'Rembrandt's Eyes' by Simon Schama. It's an unmatched book, a dual biography of Rembrandt and Rubens; a truly inspiring analysis of their paintings; and a sensory insight into Dutch life at the time. I'm gonna track down Caravaggio along with quite a few others on this list.

We have very similar reading styles as a bunch of these are either on my TBR or have already been read by me. I'm always excited to see the Caravaggio book being mentioned as it's one of my favourites! I'm adding 'Ghosts of the Tsunami' to my TBR...I'm not Japanese, but I lived and worked in Iwaki city just south of the nuclear power plant so the earthquake had a huge impact on my city. Not sure if I'll be to get through it because one of the schools I taught at was by the sea so this hits a bit too close to home, but I will definitely give it a try~

@@audreyapproved I read Van Gogh: The Life by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith a couple of years ago in preparation for a visit to the Netherlands, and that book is a CHONKER. It goes into every single little details of his life and work, what he read and what he said (thanks to all the letters saved by his brother). So if you like Van Gogh and don't mind huge detailed books, that one is pretty good! Otherwise, most of my art books tend to focus more on the art as I like to do master studies. I do want to read the Da Vinci biography you mentioned, as well as Standing in the Sun: A Life of J.M.W Turner :)
