Pick #5: The Beatles' Revolver. It was hard to decide which of The Beatles albums worked best for this month, but Revolver edged the others out with Good Day, Sunshine, although Abbey Road also has Here Comes the Sun so that one came very close. #1: 311's Transitor #2: No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom #3: Journey's Escape #4: Santana's Caravanserai #5: The Beatles' Revolver

Day 5. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On Marvin Gaye's dystopian masterpiece of urban decay, politics and war all encapsulated in nice mellow groove. The music is almost spiritual in the sense that it elevates the listener into much deeper thought rather than just background noise. One if the gretest releases of all time. 1. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 2. Grateful Dead - American Beauty 3. It's A Beautiful Day - S/T 4. Waylon Jennings - Waylon Live 5. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

A hard rock masterpiece and reminds me of summer everytime i play it !

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmos Factory This is the CCR album that has everything. From the Buck Owens Bakersfield sound of “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” to the extended past 11 min of the Motown classic “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” this record was made for summertime !! Plus you have the cool hits of “Travelin’ Band”, “Run Through the Jungle” & “Up Around the Bend”. “Who’ll Stop the Rain” is one of John Fogerty’s most indelible songs. “Long As I Can See the Light” & “Before You Accuse Me” are bluesy and swampy as only Creedence could produce. The highlight for me is the opener “Ramble Tamble” , with its extended guitar improvisations, is perfect for riding down the highway with the windows rolled down. Everything about this album gives you good feelings to be out in the fresh air enjoying life in the summertime !!

Donovan - Donovan's Greatest Hits (Epic, 1969) Many of us Yanks didn't appreciate how viscerally insulting Bob Dylan's patronizing, asshole treatment of Donovan was in the Don't Look Back documentary. Yes, Donovan looked up to Dylan as even the Beatles did. But he was also the MAN when it came to psychedelic folk in the UK, and his body of work is no joke. As a kid, my introduction to both artists were greatest hits albums that my mom had, and for a long time I preferred Donovan. His psychedelic folk pop produced some of the best songs in the 60s, from "Sunshine Superman" to the mind-blowing "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and the wonderfully eerie "Season of the Witch."

My pick for today is Golden Earring - No Promises.. No Debts It was the summer of 79 and ´Weekend Love´ played all over the radio here in Belgium. I was a shy fourteen year old kid and girls were like aliens to me. One day this gorgeous girl from my school came to our house and invited me to go swimming to an open air pool. I remember my father opened the front door and said to me ´Hey Casanova, there´s a girl for you.´ She became my first girlfriend and every time I hear ´Weekend Love ´ memories of that summer come to the surface. It´s a catchy sing-along tune with a summary vibe. It may not be their best album, but it´s the first Golden Earring album I bought. Besides ´Weekend Love ´there are some other memorable tracks: ´Heartbeat´ ´Save Your Skin´ and the punchy rockers ´Tiger Bay´ and ´Don´t Stop The Show´ to name a few.

Boston's debut was the first album that came to mind when this series started. I'll toss out a title that probably won't make Pete's list but definitely makes mine - "Pacific Daydream" by Weezer. Great, catchy power pop that, as Weezer's leader Rivers Cuomo has indicated, was sonically inspired by the ultimate Summer band, the Beach Boys. Weezer's "White album" could go here as well. Thanks, Pete.

Day 5 Fantastic pick Pete Woodstock “Soundtrack”(1970) This soundtrack has a lot of awesome musicians on it. I can’t even say who I liked the best or the different songs. The movies I have to this are something else to watch. The album in places get kind of raunchy in places and so doesn’t the movies. A lot of you are going to think this is quite funny but I had to hide this album from my parents and play it when they weren’t around. I bought the different movies later in life and still had to keep them hidden from my parents incase they came into my place where I was living. 1 Crossroads Guitar Festival,2004,2007,2010,2013, and 2019 2 Arlo Guthrie “Running Down The Road”(1969) 3 Scott McKenzie “The Voice of Scott McKenzie”(1967) 4 The Yardbirds “Over,Under, Sideways, Down”(1966) 5 Woodstock “Soundtrack”(1970)

    5) Weezer - White Album When Weezer released Everything Will Be Alright In The End back in 2014, I know I wasn't the only fan who breathed a massive sigh of relief. After years of puzzling, strange, and sometimes downright embarrassing albums, it seemed they had finally found their footing again and were ready to reclaim their place as one of the best Pop/Rock bands out there. With the White Album, the band's fourth self-titled release, Weezer was officially back, and this time they brought summer with them. Right off the bat we're treated to "California Kids", complete with big guitars, driving drums and those Weezer melodies we'd come to know and love so well. The Beach Boys were a major influence on this record, and you'll hear it on several tracks, most notably "Wind In Our Sail" and "(Girl We Got A) Good Thing", which floats so effortlessly in your ears that you can't help but smile and sing along. "King Of The World" and "Summertime Elaine and Drunk Dori" are slices of vintage Weezer. "L.A. Girlz" delivers the bright Pop power we've come to know and love from the band. The dark and brooding "Do You Wanna Get High?" is a standout. "Jacked Up" is driven by a bouncy piano and quirky melody that gets better with every listen. The pensive, building closer, "Endless Bummer" is a beautiful ending to a great record. As the weather warms up it's always wonderful to have this Weezer album as a soundtrack. It's a perfect companion to their previous colored records and a bright sign that the time has come for beaches, barbecues, and fun in the sun. Favorite Tracks: "California Kids" "Wind In Our Sail" "(Girl We Got A) Good Thing" "Do You Wanna Get High?" "King Of The World" "Endless Bummer" 1) Terry Reid - Seed Of Memory 2) The B-52s - S/T 3) Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees 4) American Graffiti Soundtrack 5) Weezer - White Album

I think you might actually like Van Weezer. it's a bit heavier than much of the band's music. After all, it was intended as a tribute to Van Halen. Posting early today taking that opportunity. As was discussed in a monthly topic last summer, southern rock as a genre can be the perfect summer musical accompaniment. My first southern rock choice is WILD EYED SOUTHERN BOYS by the great. 38 SPECIAL. Whilst Special Forces just pips this one as my favourite by the band, this seems to have more of that 'summer vibe'. Beginning with one of the great pop rock singles in Hold On Loosely, the album takes you on a journey through the various facets that comprise great southern rock. There's gritty bluesy hard rock in the shape of First Time Around, Throw Out The Line and Bring It On. There's terrific melodic AOR tinged southern fayre in Fantasy Girl, Hittin' and Runnin' and Honky Tonk Dancer, whilst the likes of the title track and Back Alley Sally have that lazy boogie groove that's both danceable and relaxing to listen to. The album is full of great guitar work from Jeff Carlisi and Don Barnes, surely one of the most underrated guitar teams rock has produced and the vocals of both Donny Van Zant and the aforementioned Don Barnes are right on point, divided up to perfectly suit this excellent collection of songs. Always great to slip this on and settle back with a cold one.

Boston's self-titled debut is definitely an awesome album, suitable for any time of the year. I was a senior in high school, and the album was already 24 years old, when I added it to my collection. Anyways... My Day 5 Pick: Audioslave (self-titled) A little context: the album was already almost a year old when I bought it, but then I listened to it constantly for the last couple of weeks before it was time for the new college semester to start. I bought the album in August 2003, after seeing the band live at Lollapalooza 2003 in West Palm Beach on August 5 - just three days after my 21st birthday. Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Tim Comerford, and Brad Wilk absolutely stole the show. As far as the album itself, it's a great rock album all around, from opener and first single "Cochese" to closer "The Last Remaining Light." Other highlights for me are the other two singles "Like a Stone" and "Show Me How to Live," as well as "Set It Off" and "Shadow of the Sun" - the latter probably my favorite on the album. A great driving and road trip album too! My July Picks (So Far): Day 1: Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood Day 2: Nada Surf - High/Low Day 3: AC/DC - Highway to Hell Day 4: The Cars (s/t) Day 5: Audioslave (s/t)

There is not one thing out of place. The only album I would say comes close in this respect is Van Halen's debut or the first Montrose album. Stunning and phenomenal!

Hi everyone, well, looks like we're starting early for this one: hope we've all recovered from Independence celebrations, UK election fever etc and are ready to get back to the music. My pick today is a British band's debut album, packed with singalong choruses, big guitars and one anthem directly relating to summers abroad... THUNDER "Backstreet Symphony" (EMI/Capitol, 1990) The band rose from the ashes of the underrated Terraplane, vocalist Danny Bowes, guitarist Luke Morley and drummer Harry James joined by 2nd guitarist Ben Mathew's and bassist Mark Luckhurst. The album was produced by Andy Taylor of Duran Duran fame, who also co-wrote 2 songs with Morley. She's So Fine leads things off, followed by Dirty Love, both singles, both brilliant, and other highlights include the stirring title track, the emotive Love Walked In, Higher Ground and Girl's Going Out Of Her Head. Also, that summer song, An Englishman On Holiday, is a great listen, with its tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and the album closes with a possibly unnecessary but nevertheless entertaining run through of the old Spencer Davis standard Gimme Some Lovin'... A great British band in the tradition of the 70s giants like Bad Company and Free, but just with a more contemporary feel, Bowes has a rich, powerful voice and Morley's songs ooze class, Thunder is actually something you DO want to hear in the summer months...
