Cosmic Thing by The B-52s is a fantastic Summer album. Played that record to death during summer of 89 and love it still. Its fun, makes you smile, sing and dance. Still one of my favourite records of theirs. Cosmic Thing was a real triumph for the band coming on the back of great tragedy by sadly losing Ricky Wilson to complications relating to AIDS, a few years earlier.

    3) Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees Silk Degrees is as smooth, classy, and just plain good as it gets for Disco-era Pop Soul. Boz Scaggs pulled off what, in the Bicentennial summer of 1976, to me, a diehard rock-n-roller, seemed highly unlikely - he took the gloss of Disco, coated it with the best R&B icing, and made it rock. The musicianship on this album is superb, from Jeff Porcaro's drumming and the all-star horn section to the slick guitar solos and the sophisticated keyboard arrangements. Silk Degrees is an irresistible mixture of R&B, Rock, Disco, and certainly the best Soul-tinged Pop of that wonderful summer, and one of my go-to albums for every summer ever since. Favorite Tracks: "What Can I Say" "Jump Street" "Harbor Lights" "Lowdown" "Lido Shuffle" "We're All Alone" 1) Terry Reid - Seed Of Memory 2) The B-52s - S/T 3) Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees

Day 3. It's A Beautiful Day - S/T This is one of the most stunning debut records by any band at any time. It features their classic magnum opus White Bird as the opener and the rest that follows pure musical genius. David LaFlamme's violin and viola add a depth to the music that can be labeled as early prog. One can hear blues, Eastern European and jazz throughout. released in 1969 the music still sounds fresh today. 1. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 2. Grateful Dead - American Beauty 3. 3. Styx “Pieces of Eight.” If you’re in a bad mood, Styx can sound like Foreigner did an album with Liberace. In a good mood when the sun is shining, though, they can really scratch an itch for bombastic pop rock. The first side of this record is pretty weak but side two is wall to wall bangers. 2. Bob Seger “Night Moves” 1. Jimmy Buffett “A1A.”

My next listed pick for day 3, CAN'T BUY A THRILL by STEELY DAN. The band's debut album and featuring my favourite song by "The Dan", opening track and lead off single Do It Again. The other hit Reelin' In The Years reputedly contains Jimmy Page's favourite ever guitar solo from Elliot Randall and what a beautiful piece of fluid, lyrical guitar work it is. But there's more to the album than just a couple of hits. Dirty Work, Kings, Only A Fool Would Say That, Change Of The Guard and Turn That Heartbeat Over Again are all terrific songs in a similar vein. There's the piano led Fire In The Hole and the almost country tinged Brooklyn. To me this isn't so much jazz rock or fusion although there is an element of that here, but just some of the most sophisticated pop rock ever made. Superb playing, and terrific vocal and instrumental hooks abound. This is just perfect chill out on a hot day or even just imagine the sun beating down music.

Well the third and last live album for now but again it brings back memories. My friend was called out to a guy who had locked himself out of his car, turned out this guy was a guitarist and as a thankyou he gave my friend two tickets to their next gig. We we rocked up to the gig and the band were amazing and everyone was going these guys will be big if they get the right break. Well two weeks later Sultans of Swing was releases and it went stratospheric, turned out we had been watching Dire Straits (pre being famous) and the guitarist was Mark Knopfler. Due to my absence yesterday I have two picks today and they both have similar memories! Yesterday's Pick for Day #2 is KISS - Crazy Nights and Today's Pick for Day #3 is Judas Priest - Turbo Both bands are in my top 10 and I will buy anything and everything they put out and I will love it no questions asked! LOL!!! and both of these albums bring back memories of cruising down to the Jersey Shore with my friends and our girlfriends renting hotel rooms and day drinking by the pool, crazy crazy nights (LOL!) on the boardwalk and raising hell for a whole week! All these songs are killer summer tracks on 11! Crazy Crazy Nights, No No No, I'll Fight Hell To Hold You, Hell Or High Water, Reason To Live and Turn On The Night! and Turbo Lover, Locked In, Out In The Cold, Wild Nights Hot And Crazy Days, Hot For Love and Reckless was the soundtrack of many great summers! and even Parental Guidance fits in here as well! LOL!!!

Their covers are just something else the vocalization of Lani Hall, Janis Hansen Karen Phipp The Beatles covers all the covers they did the songs back in the day has their own stuff. Just an absolutely fantastic run of groovy perfect for summer

Members were John Sebastian vocals rhythm guitar harmonica and autoharp. Zal Yanovsky lead guitar. Steve Boone bass. Joe Butler drums and vocals. Great mixture of folk. Blues country and jugband music made them a little different than the other bands of the era. Best songs on this there 3rd official release are Lovin You. Voodoo In My Basement. Rain On The Roof. The Europe ‘72 shows are incredible. I don’t often listen to the original issue b/c it has quite a number of overdubs on it and now prefer the full shows they released a few years back. The Lyceum and Wembley Pool shows are my faves. Jerry of course is incredible but they feature some of Bob’s best playing, and he is very clear in the mix, which isn’t the case by the late 70s.

Day 3 - The Black Crowes -By Your Side (1999) Many times, during summer, I just simply reach for my favorites. Ultimately, it's about getting into a place with songs you can sing along to. That is what this Black Crowes album is for me, just an easy, fun-time listen. A return to the form of the breakout debut. All the songs on this one roll, 45 minutes gone so quickly. Get Faster, Kicking My Heart Around, Go Tell and the Congregation, and Welcome to the Goodtimes (which could have been the album title.) are amongst my favorites. A top 31 all-time album for me. My Day 3 Pick: AC/DC - Highway to Hell Actually, any album from Sydney's finest could apply to this month's theme for me. However, I'm going with this one today because the closing song "Night Prowler" was sadly later associated with the Night Stalker serial killer Richard Ramirez. And later tonight, I'm going to see Ti West's new film MaXXXine - the third film to X and Pearl - with the title character now being in L.A. in 1985, with Ramirez on the prowl. This is a kickass album the whole way through, however, and I added it to my collection in 2000 - the summer before my senior year of high school.

Only disappointing thing about the album is it should've been a double album with Day Of The Eagle, Bridge Of Sighs, The Fool And Me, Hannah, Man Of The World, Twice Removed From Yesterday, Shame The Devil & Gonna Be More Suspicious. Trower has been a favorite for 50 years and I pray that he recovers from his major surgery which forced him to cancel his Fall US Tour & possibly end his touring career.

For the newbie to GD music I would strongly recommend the live album “Without a Net”. (1990) You get sensational live performances but DO NOT get the long rambling drum solos that turn a lot of people off. Longest cut is “Eyes of the World” at 19 minutes but has Branford Marsalis on tenor and alto saxophones and doesn’t stray from the groove of the song.

Great pick, Pete! Can't say I'm a deadhead, but I saw them a number of times and I count them as one of my favorite bands. I was thinking of picking Europe '72 because it was my first Dead album, but the moment when they really blew me away was when I first heard side two of Terrapin Station. It was the summer of '77, so it's a perfect pick. Cheers!

Sitting on a beach in CT right now listening to Brad Paisley: American Saturday Night. Great songs on here like Water and Catch All The Fish. Paisley is a real shredder at times. Minus a song or two, I love this album in the summer. Mud On the Tires is also great too.

My section 'Played in Summer' continues with The Go Go's 'TALK SHOW'. I could have gone with BEAUTY AND THE BEAT, too. as both were released at the beginning of the season. Despite the two hits from '...THE BEAT' compared to the one - HEAD OVER HEALS - on TALK SHOW, I slightly favor the rest of the latter, so I am going with it here. There is nothing like a good girl group. 1. The Motels - ALL FOUR ONE 2. Crumbacher - ESCAPE FROM THE FALLEN PLANET

Day 3 YES_Fragile = November 1971 by Atlantic Records. It was the band's first album to feature keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who replaced Tony Kaye after the group had finished touring their breakthrough record, The Yes Album (1971). The band entered rehearsals in London in August 1971, but Kaye's reluctance to play electronic keyboards led to his departure from the group. He was quickly replaced by Wakeman, whose virtuosity, compositional skills, and experience with the electric piano, organ, Mellotron, and Moog synthesizer expanded the band's sound. Due to budget and time constraints, four tracks on the album are group arrangements; the remaining five are short solo pieces by each band member. The opening track, "Roundabout", became a popular and iconic song. The artwork for the album was the band's first to be designed by Roger Dean, who would design many of their future covers. Side one No. Title Writer(s) Length 1. "Roundabout" Jon Anderson, Steve Howe 2. "Cans and Brahms" (instrumental) Johannes Brahms, arranged by Rick Wakeman 3. "We Have Heaven" Anderson 4. "South Side of the Sky" Anderson, Chris Squire Total length: 19:38 Side two No. Title Writer(s) 1. "Five per Cent for Nothing" (instrumental[nb 10]) Bill Bruford 2. "Long Distance Runaround" Anderson 3. "The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" Squire 4. "Mood for a Day" (instrumental) Howe 5. "Heart of the Sunrise" (includes hidden track[nb 11]) Anderson, Squire, Bruford Total length: 2003 CD additional tracks No. Title Writer(s) 10. "America" Paul Simon 11. "Roundabout" (Early rough mix) Total length: 1:00:30 (60:30) Personnel Credits are adapted from the album's liner notes.[nb 1] Yes Jon Anderson - lead and backing vocals Steve Howe - electric and acoustic guitars, backing vocals Chris Squire - bass guitars, backing vocals, additional electric guitar[62] Rick Wakeman - Hammond organ, grand piano, RMI 368 Electra-Piano and Harpsichord, Mellotron, Minimoog synthesiser Bill Bruford - drums, percussion Production Yes - production i have the cd without the additional tracks. Used to have vinyl. The cd good for being outside with it. The guitars and the moog and Hammond organ the singing and drums and all electrifying and atmospheric with the sound and a 4.5 star album IMO/ 2nd you have Close To The Edge that followed that is great too. And hearing when I heard Roundabout -South Side of The Sky - Long Distance Runaround and Heart Of The Sunrise and the other tracks that so amazing of just rolling into each other. A bright and great album to be outside with. TC and hugs and see ya all later.

Ronnie Dawson ... More Bad Habits Ronnie Dawson was a misbehaving fifties regional rockabilly star that was expelled from the Southern Bible Institute. He went on to a non-rockabilly career in music writing commercial jingles and more. When The Cramps spearheaded a rockabilly revival and covered one of his regional hits, Dawson started performing and recording rockabilly again as a middle-aged original. As he was turning sixty, he released his most successful album, More Bad Habits. All killer no filler. The year before, he was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame. Four years after releasing this triumph, Dawson died of lung cancer at 64 years old. Not a stroke or heart attack as his diet of Big Macs, BBQ, and salsa (look at the cover of this album) would suggest. A glorious celebration of misbehavior for your July Fourth cookout with your aging rowdy friends. With spices of country rock and just rock and roll with the rockabilly. Another rock star Cub Koda of Brownsville Station (Smokin' In The Boy's Room), who went on to rock journalism, reviewed this record better than I can the year before he died. ".... Tell the tale of what happens when a rockabilly wildcat reaches middle age. Tunes like 'Good at Being Bad,' 'Mac Attack,' 'Toe Up from the Flo Up,' and 'Bad Habit or Two' address rebel concerns in an age of political correctness, seeing life for what it is while defiantly refusing to equate getting older with getting old." Kinda eloquent for a great party record, Cub.

Bon Jovi-Slippery When Wet. Even the name of the album screams summer. Released in 1986, this album was recorded at Little Mountain Studios in Vancouver, Canada. It was their first of two albums produced by Canadian producer Bruce Fairbairn, and engineered by Bob Rock. Yes, that Bob Rock. I have heard that was because either Jon was a fan of their work on Blue N Blue's Without Love, or because Jon admired their work by The Big Prize by Honeymoon Suite. I think that any album that begins "the weekend comes to this town seven days too soon" is a great album for summer partying. Also, dig David Bryan's keyboard intro. I know that people have grown tired of the singles, but not me. You Give Love A Bad Name was inspired by JBJ briefly dating actress Diane Lane. The other two singles(Living On A Prayer and Wanted Dead Or Alive) have a Classic Rock flavor. The former with the talk box, and the latter with acoustic guitars. The latter song was inspired by Bob Seger's Turn The Page. I would say that the former wss inspired by songs by Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh. The song Social Disease features The Margarita Horns, who have also been featured on Dude(Looks Like A Lady), Rag Doll, and Love In An Elevator by Aerosmith. Some songs were co-written by Desmond Child. One of those(Without Love) reminds me of the Robert Palmer song Some Guys Have All The Luck. If your pool party turns into slow dancing, there's Never Say Goodbye.
