    What a great selection. I think the Simple Addition tee in short sleeves would look great on you in its original cropped shape over a long sun dress. So cute! So cute, in fact, that I already had it in my Ravelry favorites!

    Great idea for a video, thank you! I'd love to wear knits in summer but I always struggle to find patterns that suit hot weather. They are either way too thick or so see-through that you'd need to wear something under it. I think the second pattern and the tunic were my favourites. In terms of ideas for the Fave5s, I think patterns that are suitable to wear in a wheelchair would be nice. Long shawls can get in the wheels, the elbows of sweaters wear thin on the armrests, gloves are shortlived experiences and there is a finite amount of hats one person can possibly wear. But it gets cold in a wheelchair, especially if you get pushed and don't move much yourself. And of course we want to show off our knitting skills and wear them around, too! :) Have a nice day!

    Because I don't need a mobility aid I am not certain I am the best person to make such a video. But I will do some research and see what I can come up with. Are cowls a good option?

  • @Keks148

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@WatchBarbaraKnit Cowls are great. Also for example shoulder capes, lap blankets, sweater vests or waistcoats or other short sleeved pullover types with elaborate yokes maybe, or shrug jackets. Maybe accessories for the wheelchair itself, like bags or armrest covers, coud be an option. I see how it can be a difficult subject, so please don't feel that you have to make a Fave5s about it. I'll be happy with any Fave5s theme you come up with anyway :) Maybe "Knits for the time between winter and spring, when the weather is mild"? I don't know what that would be called in english, but in german it's Übergangskleidung (best known for the Übergangsjacke).

    I’ve been seriously knitting for about 11 years but I rarely make things that have to fit. (I think I’m gauge challenged.) Anyway, this fall I made my first grown up cardigan, called Stepping Stones. It was pretty easy to knit - no button band! - although it still came out small for what my swatch predicted. Blocked it like crazy and it’s fine. Anyway, it’s size inclusive, had directions for modifications, including for “beefy” arms, and I think it would work in cotton or linen. (Mine is wool.) Just sharing in case anyone is interested. Thanks for the great ideas, Barbara! I might have to try the Valentine Tee!

    Great theme and nice choice of patterns. I am going to knit a T for my sister who lives in FL. I found a nice pattern via Quince & Co based in Maine. The pattern is 'Strala'. The yarn is 100% linen. (I don't work for them!) 11 sizes, U.S. 4. Not sure how you narrowed your search, there are gazillions of options.

  • @WatchBarbaraKnit

    Quince does lovely, minimalist pieces. So I narrow my search in several different ways. One of my primary considerations is that I want to use my voice to lift up other smaller designers (like myself), so you'll rarely see me pick something from a yarn company (like Quince) or a "big name" designer. Things are also narrowed down by who I can get permission to use photos from. I get permission from the copyright holder to use each image.

    Good day! As usual, I really enjoyed watching at your video and admire your findings! My request for a subject would be: How to deal with too much knitting inspiration? What I mean by that is sometimes, I see a rectangular shawl pattern... then, I begin to think about the yarn in my stash... then I say to myself that the pattern could be turned into a very cute bag... and this goes on and on and on... then, I want to give it a try and I end up with 3 or 4 projects at the same time. I always finish them, but how long it takes!!!!!! Ouf! only telling you what's on my mind is making me dizzy...

    I'm afraid that I have the same problem and I haven't figured out how to focus yet LOL. My primary solution is that I am very monogamous in my knitting. I won't let myself start something new while something is on the needles.

    Thank you so much for beautiful plus tee-shirts and giving alternatives to revelry. When you talk about ease, do you measure yourself, decide how much ease you want, add those and then look for that number in pattern. I quess I’m asking if the pattern has ease included or not? Maybe you could do a program going more in-depth on that. Also I would like to know what yarn weights can be combined to make another weight. Is there a chart I could get. I hope I’m clear. Thank you so much. You are a real encourager

    Oh FL gal here too, I absolutely love the first v neck tee and I’d totally make it more of a longer 3/4 type length sleeve, (I too have beefy upper arms and many tops are snug on my arms) plus a little modesty for the “wings” always gives my confidence a boost. Wouldn’t that tee with a garter stitch boarder of the Tee look cute!?

    Barb, thank you for researching all of these patterns. I did pick a favorite for myself. When these have so many sizes, does the author take different measurements and adjust the numbers? Or does someone actually knit each size so we know they work?

  • @WatchBarbaraKnit

    @WatchBarbaraKnit

    2 жыл бұрын

    It is not industry standard to knit a sample in every size. If that were the case patterns would cost considerably more than they do. Designers do something called grading to size up/down from their original design. Some designers use test knitters but even then not all of the sizes will necessarily get knit.

I think a pair of fingerless mitts that are knitted flat and then seamed on one side are great, esp. with a little bit of texture. Maybe "Warm Hands Fingerless Mitts" by taffylass knits or "Absolute Beginner's Fingerless Mitts" by Tina Johnston, both on Ravelry. For a step beyond pre-beginning, Barbara has lots of beautiful patterns that would make a great second project. Have a nice day!
