Big moment for the kid to make a debut on this channel and have his game commentated by Mr.King! Youngest ever to feature on PowerPlayChess? I think so

Long time fan here! In fact most of what I do in my spare time is watch your old videos. I just wanted to let you know something important... that semi-circle in the side of the cup is called a handle... you use it to lift the cup when you want to drink. Good luck!

A handle should certainly be used with a cup. But this is a mug, a far larger and less dainty receptical, and different rules apply.

Is it really talent if the kid has five coaches? In chess, we should really be considering all the talent that's getting left behind because it's such an expensive experience.

@@sofiad.1752 He's 10 and knocking on the door of being an IM. He's a talent which is why he's attracted coaches. It is a bit chicken and egg though I agree.

@@PaulFurber he definitely is, but I'm saying that a lot of what is considered chess genius is mostly parents giving them a ton of money and attention. Right, to even get to like 1500 and get that coach, you have to be exposed to those opportunities. A kid can't do a lot on their own.

He may be a good player but his opponent moving his queen six times in the first 12 or 13 moves can’t be desirable! Plus, as the cherry on top, a little pawn move at the edge of the board in there as well.

Ratings are only an average and every player has swings in form (he scored 50% in the tournament). Age is only one factor. Larino might simply have other things going on in his life that are more important. Speaking from my own experience, I can tell you that I found it impossible to give as much at the chess board when family came along, for example. Only a small dip from 100% is enough to have huge consequences.

Safe to say, that's probably not the last Faustino game we'll see on this channel. Well, played. Love seeing the Scandinavian opening lose. Online, I have 709 games played against it with a 74% win percentage. That's the HIGHEST against ANY opening I've faced. Statistically, it is the WORST opening I've ever faced. And I think that's true, because it is one of the few openings I have never, EVER, studied. If you're going to play it, you better know it like a grandmaster...oh, wait, you need to know it even better apparently. ;)

Very interesting! What are you doing against the Scandi that's so good? Or is it that your opponents don't play it very well?

  • @LateCloser

@@PowerPlayChess I try to play an early Be2. That seems to mess up Scandi players. It's really just they're playing poorly. And maybe that opening is more attractive to weaker players than others. :)

Wow what a rating for a 10 year old. What was Magnus, Polgar, Kasparov or Karajakin rating back when they were 10? No hint of jealousy from an 50 something chess patzer hovering around 2000 rating hehe.
