    Thanks, great tips. Also liked the one about threading it backwards til you hear a click and then you know you're in-line with the threads correctly. Can definitely use that tip other places as well.

    Thanks. Very helpful. Thank you. Tip: also use a clean latex cleaning glove to remove the aerator. No need for plyers n most cases. Works better than my jar opener. Soak the aerator in white vinegar for a couple hours to make the buildup melt like butter for easy cleaning. A plastic bag w white vinegar can be secured to the faucet. Also soak shower heads regularly.

    Some vinegar on a rag wrapped around the aerator faucet assembly helps to soften the mineral deposits... a little bottle cap to soak that aerator in makes short work at removing the rest of the scale & crud

    I am fairly sure that at 4:12, the assembly around the screen does come apart.

    I know it looks that way, but the plastic is welded. I broke 1 of the 4 we had trying to split it with a knife. If they are glued together, it's usually not worth opening it except as a last ditch effort.

    They do come apart on some. I've had to take some completely apart and take the o ring out because there was debris under the o ring itself. Also the o rings deteriorate over time and can be replaced. May just be easier buying a new aerator though.

    Which way is the aerator turned to remove it from the tap ? i.e is it turned clockwise or anticlockwise from ur standing perspective ?

  • @tsbrownie

    @tsbrownie

    3 жыл бұрын

    From above you turn left or clockwise. If it is stuck, try a rubber jar opener from the kitchen. If you must use pliers, protect the aerator and do not squeeze hard. They are thin and bend / break easily.

    My kitchen faucet is just a trickle of water now and I can't do anything with that - no washing dishes or filling buckets to wash floors or anything. I have to go to the bathroom tub faucet to wash my dishes and fill a bucket to clean my floors. Is the management re-directing my water to everyone else or is the problem with the aerator? It used to flow nicely when I first moved into the apartment. How wood the aerator get clogged in the first place since there's no food or anything going in it? Please answer if you might know the problem.

  • @tsbrownie

    @tsbrownie

    4 жыл бұрын

    Low flow can be from several problems. It can be the aerator is clogged with minerals from the water. Also, in most cities you will get small stuff from the pipes: rust, sand, ... I've also seen the inside of shut off valves and pipes corrode or get blocked with minerals.

  • @lorivattes5475

    It worked! I removed the aerator and it flows really good now. Now I have a working faucet in the kitchen. The only thing is is that when I removed it, I forgot that I had left to cold water faucet in the on position and it came out spirting water at me. Oh, well, it was only water. I'm so happy I fixed it myself. I put the old aerator back on that was on when I rented the apartment.

    The only problem I have now is that my refrigerator leaks from the freezer on the right side and I have keep a bucket to catch the water and dump the ice out every once in awhile. The management thinks they fixed it by taking a blow dryer to the freezer. And, also, when I take a shower, the water comes out both the bathtub faucet and the showerhead.

  • @lmiller1413

    @lmiller1413

    The bathtub/shower head needs a new diverted. It's a little thing on the tub faucet, it diverts all the water to the shower or tub. Yours is broken.

    You can, but if you let it go too long it can damage the chromium. If there's sand or such in the screen vinegar won't remove it.

    i couldn't figure out why mine was still not flowing with fresh pressured water. I had soaked it in vinegar for a few days and the same result. I finally tried to remove the top portion from the base and there was a top that popped off. I looked at what was below and it was still clogged. Soaked it in hot water and used a air compressor, cleaned it all out and flows perfectly. The point there is a piece (at least on mine) that pops off and is separate from the aerator.

    My plumber just installed a brand new faucet yesterday and the water is spraying out . It’s so annoying. He told me to call the company, so they’re sending me a new aerator. How could it possibly be clogged when it’s brand new? We tried cleaning it but it’s still not right.

    If it is not assembled correctly it will do strange things. Even small bits of contamination (sand, plastic...) change it a lot more than one would think looking at it.

    Does the water flow when the aerator is off? If no, then that's an issue. If yes, then it's probably not assembled correctly. That's easy to do (from personal experience). Getting parts in upside down or in the wrong order will do it. If you can find a diagram of your faucet type on the internet, that will help a lot.

    Or just leave it off. Maintenance men do that in schools and restaurants so it's not a problem in the future. Then you just have to use the water responsibly because it's more water and less air coming out
