Fatima I must just tell you, I am 51 and have never attempted to make these dishes myself it always appeared too complicated. Since watching you this last 2 months I have successfully made Masala Steak sandwiches and Chicken Akhni. This bobotie is next on my list. LOL you certainly make it look easy you are an excellent teacher. Thank you.

Hi from Alness in the Highlands of Scotland. My mum made this regularly for dinner when I was a kid. Talking about it and other childhood memories with a South African friend led me to look at this video.
Okay, so I tried it, verbatim/ step by step... Just one tip omitted... Leave the mince to cool a bit, before adding the milk and egg mixture, otherwise the egg coagulates... It scrambles🤗 Shukran, tasted divine 💯

Hi Fatima. I really enjoy the way that you present your cooking videos. You make everything look so easy. I'm definitely going to try this recipe. Hi aunty Fatima. I have a suggestion for when you're ending your videos. When you finish making the dish at the end of each video, you should dish out a plate and show the inside the dish etc. Just a suggestion so the viewers can see the textures and layers etc.

Just made this dish for the very first time using your recipe. It's in the oven now for 5 minutes. Hoping it's a winner! :)
Ingredients 1 half onion chopped Chopped chillis to taste (optional) Couple cloves of garlic Fry onion with chillis and garlic Add 500g of lean beef mince & stir. 1 tsp salt Fry and cook for about 10min. 1 tsp tumeric Add 2 or 3 tablespoon of masala of choice. Add soaked bread (optional) Add 1/4 cup Mrs balls hot chutney. (Or to taste) Add 2 bay leaves Add 1 cup of water and cook for 10min. Transfer to a baking dish. Whisk 200ml milk and 2 eggs. Pour custard over mince. Garnish with some bay leaves. Preheat oven to 180 degrees and bake in oven for About 30min. You can double up recipe.

Fatima, I'm a terrible cook, things end up on the floor and against the walls, but you have such a gentle way about you. You make me believe I can do this too. Regretfully my oven has been broken since December 2018, so I can't really bake anything. I do have a combination microwave oven though, so I am going to try and make Bobotie for the first time over the weekend. Thank you. ❤❤

Assalamu Alaikum. I made babotie for the first time ever following this recipe. It was delicious masha Allah. I did add 2 slices of bread soaked in the milk and a bit of Worcestershire sauce. Other than that no alterations. Shukran so much.❤

Please help with the custard,is it the normal custard I get from the store either or in liquid form or powder mixed with milk and an egg?never tried this or heard of it before but want to make it for my family...thank you in advance

Hi. The mix of milk and egg is called custard. Not regular custard as we know it. Hope that helps

I think as a keto recipe, you could maybe substitute the milk for cream and leave out the chutney.
