Fatima Payman delivers emotional statement as she resigns from Labor

Senator Fatima Payman has announced her resignation from the Labor Party as she delivered an emotional statement on Thursday.
This comes after Ms Payman was indefinitely suspended from the Labor caucus after she crossed the floor to vote with the Greens on Palestinian statehood.
“I am torn, deeply torn,” Ms Payman said during a media conference on Thursday.
“When history looks back, it must see that we stood on the right side of humanity, even when it was difficult - sadly, I do not believe our principles align with those of the leadership of the Labor Party.
“With a heavy heart but a clear conscience, I announce my resignation from the Australian Labor Party - I have informed the Prime Minister that, effective immediately, I will sit on the crossbench to represent Western Australia.”

Bye-bye, Fatima. From October 7th onward, you've spewed hatred and discord. There is a place for disagreement and respectful discussion. There's a place for opposition and nuance of values held by people of different backgrounds. There is no place for the blanket statements that promote the position of terrorists or directs hatred toward any Australian or Australian minority.

Why can't she concentrate on Australia. That's what she is here for, in Australia? Dual nationals are the bain of Australia. They piss off when the going gets tough, spend out tax dollars on tunnels, amunician and macho males playing war ! Australians e are being stacked with dual Chinese nationals so China will charge into Australia when it decides to invade citing they are merely protecting these OS chinese interest. This woman is probably a dual national and will send our tax dollars to the middle east where their occupations are fighting and being funded by Arab oil and UN bleeting heart employees who'd rather globe trot than work for the advancement of their home countries. She is the advance guard of a moslem caliphate in Australia. Stop spending my tax dollars overseas,. Also why are migrants comming to Australia knowing our culture is totally opposite to theirs. As a woman her culture is totally offensive to me and threatens my freedom.

Payman’s remarks were hardly a frontal assault on Labor. She was leaving “a party I’ve proudly served” with a “heavy heart,” describing Labor as an organisation that “emerged to challenge the notion that politics belong solely to the privileged few and [to] fulfil the promise of our lucky country.” That was never the character of Labor, and it is certainly not how it has functioned over Payman’s 29-year lifetime, during which it has ruthlessly implemented the dictates of the corporate elite, while supporting every US-led war globally. Given the relatively tepid character of Payman’s stand and the fact that her vote in favour of token Palestinian recognition was arguably in line with official Labor policy, the most striking aspect of the controversy is the ferocious response from the government. Living legend. Well done Fatima. You chose not to stand on the graves of children. Oh and the comments about 'What Australia is' and 'She does not represent us'. Well neither do you. Nor our leadership on both ends of the spectrum. No one person can represent everyone. One day, Australians, like I did, will realise that we are no longer a country, but an economic zone. Where anyone can buy, invest, come and go as they please for the sake of a wealthy minority. You're all getting duped around political and cultural lines. None of the people in power give a sh** about us. When we get together on that, we can reframe 'what Australia means' and 'who truly represents us'

All these Muslims who are so unhappy with what Labors doing, should ask themselves, if the Liberal party would do any different or give a toss about them. Payman should be grateful that in this country, we have free speech and choice. She chose to go against Labors rules, and she chose to leave. We're all unhappy about whats happening in Palestine but, it doesnt have anything to do with us. Why not ask what the other Muslim countries are doing to help. Why are Muslims flocking to Christian countrues and not to bordering Muslim countries. Why do many Muslims who come here, show no allegiance to a country, who have given them safety and a better life.
