At that point in his life, and only at that point, he was very bright.

He was pronounced dead at the scene due to a delayed mortar detonation......meaning; he bent over to look at why a firework didn't go off and it launch into his face decapitating him. Neighbors found remains in their yard. The family witnessed it too.

In our little town 1 family is just trash. They start their fireworks shenanigans around June 10th and it doesn't end until around August 1st. All aerial fireworks are ILLEGAL in our state and sure enough this family of degenerates drives across state lines to buy them and then they proceed to light them off where it is illegal. Luckily we aren't right next door to them but down the same block. It's very annoying.

I spoke with his sister after it happened, he was posing for a selfie with the lit fire work next to his face. She said they were trying to get a shot where the sparks from the lit fuse would reflect off his eyes, but kept having to put out the fuse and light it up again because they couldn't get it right. Eventually, it went off.

My condolences to his family. At the same time we need LESS NANNY STATE and have more common sense.

Sorry to say this but what had happened to this guy could have easily been prevented. You don't have your head or any body parts over a mortar tube or any firework for that matter. 99% of firework accidents happen because of stupidity. 1% from actually firework malfunction. And as far as fires thats again stupidity. Alot of fireworks will smolder for a long time and if thrown in the trash you have yourself a fire. Its common sense. These are the people thst ruin it for people that use firework safely.

You don't need to be a professional to know how to handle fireworks. You just need to be a responsible and adult, and unfortunately, the victim possessed only one of those qualities.

I would like to know who sold him the “firework”. At some point a “firework “ becomes a bomb. If it will take your head off it’s a bomb and shouldn’t be handled by a dad putting on a show for his kids in a neighborhood. It should be on a barge away from the public. Someone needs to go to prison

You wouldn't stare down the barrel of a loaded gun so why place your face over the top of a motor tube?

I have always been afraid of fireworks.. My prayers and condolences go to this poor family..

So sorry for this young family! Very tragic! Hopefully people learn from this.

When I was 12-years-old the neighbor across the street blew off several fingers holding onto a firework. Even then, after making sure he’d be alright, I remember asking, “Why would he do something like that? Fireworks are dangerous!” I’m sad he won’t be able to overcome this last stupid thing, particularly for his children.

It was much better back in the days when fire works were only set by professionals.

Fire works should be outlawed ! I hate them !

Fireworks are nothing but mini bombs that shoot different colors sparks

A long Island man lost one hand and several fingers from fireworks just days before the 4th and another lost 3 fingers on the 4th. Plus a 33 yr old father gave his 11 yr old son something to light and 2 houses caught fire. Just on Long island.The father is being charged with multiple offenses

"Leave fireworks to the professionals" Nonsense. Have some common sense.

I lived in Europe for about a decade. Every new years eve people shot off fireworks. I am not talking a few people I am talking pretty much everyone. The whole sky would be lit up. I never heard ONCE about a fire or someone dying.

How can you even tell the difference between holiday fireworks and just a normal day in Chicago?

Fireworks should be illegal for all residents of all towns. They are dangerous and also full of heavy metals that are unhealthy for humans, animals and plants.

That sucks. I remember in Lombard in the year 1996 my bosses brother who I did some drywall repair about 4 months before forth of July blew his face off when he thought the firework was out and looked into the giant tube and it killed him. Dangerous stuff.

My brother was a pyrotechnician. So glad he was never injured.. RIP my dear brother. U were awesome.

Do you think he was mentally fit to be a father? Just a question on how he would teach his children.

I currently live in Seattle and I think we had 2 deaths and I just saw a report today of a young man who had his entire hand blown off (Darwin!?!)!

Fireworks are explosives! Why are regular people allowed to buy them anywhere?!!?!?! Sparklers, yes. Poppers, yes. Fire exploding mini rockets - NOOOOOOOO!

Illinois banned consumer fireworks 🎆 and he decided to ignore the ban? I'm not feeling the least bit sorry for him or his family, not only did he ignore the ban, but he more than likely wasn't using fireworks responsibly.

Why in the hell is our News Reporter from Portland Oregon in Chicago Now! I don't remember us getting a memo or anything about him leaving😕 I grew up watching him😭😭.. Prayers go out to the family who lost their dad/love one on the 4th!! Such a sad unfortunate event 😞

Sad that people dont follow the law. Australia banned personal use of fireworks many years ago. Wake up USA, they are dangerous to non fireworks exparts.
