Fat Testing Six Flags Over Texas

Welcome back to our adrenaline-fueled series as we hit the roller coaster capital of Texas: Six Flags Over Texas. For those in the plus-size community wondering about the accessibility and inclusivity of this legendary amusement park, this episode promises to be an eye-opener. We won't spill all the details, but let's just say our journey through Six Flags is filled with ups, downs, and invaluable insights.
Six Flags Over Texas is a mecca for thrill-seekers, featuring an array of roller coasters, family rides, and live entertainment. But does the park meet the needs of individuals of all sizes? We'll be fat-testing a variety of rides, from high-speed roller coasters to the more tranquil family attractions, assessing how size-inclusive the park truly is.
While the amusement industry has made strides in accessibility, there's always room for improvement. Six Flags Over Texas offers a diverse range of experiences, and it's crucial to evaluate how well it caters to a broad spectrum of body sizes. Whether you're a fan of spine-tingling drops or prefer a scenic carousel ride, our goal is to shed light on the park's commitment to inclusivity-or areas where it could do better.
Join us as we tour Six Flags Over Texas, putting the "amusement" in "amusement park" while advocating for a more size-inclusive experience. This episode aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding accessibility in the realm of thrill and excitement.

    I’ve been to Fiesta Texas and Over Texas multiple times in my life, and my biggest complaint about Over Texas is the black asphalt they use for the walking surface.

    I worked there for a couple months, it’s definitely a problem. I had a friend get heat exhaustion from it even when we were hydrating in shade at every chance we got, they really need to do something about it

    I am glad that you can check your fit in a seat before you get in line for a ride. Saves the embarassment of not fitting when youre actually on the ride and everyone is gawking at you. Be safe when you sit, and have a wonderful time!!

    I’m not mad at you for missing anything. Your health is more important. The first time we went to SFOT this year my husband got too hot and almost didn’t make it to the car. He’s also a large gentleman. You hit my two favorite rides Batman and Runaway Mountain. I think all you really missed was New Texas Giant, Titan, Scrambler, Rodeo and Roaring Rapids. I hope you get a chance to try those rides & look forward to seeing the video. Great job slimming down a little bit.

    I just discovered your channel, & I'm so glad I did! I love amusement & theme parks, but most of them just aren't fat friendly. Disney is probably the best, & I used to go once a year. But they've unfortunately priced me out, so I haven't been since 2012. SFOT is actually my home park. I live less than an hour away & had season tickets for awhile. But the last time I went (about 18 years ago), I just barely fit on most things. I'm very "hippy", so I tend to have issues with seat width even if the safety bar would be OK. As for SFOT, whenever you make it back, I'd love to know about Titan & Shockwave. I rode them back in the day, & they're both great fun. I rode Texas Giant before the RMC makeover, & it was great, too. But I remember the seats (at least at that time) being divided & just barely fitting. Plus it has the unfortunate distinction of someone DYING on it because she didn't fit properly, but they let her go anyway. So I'm going to say it's not fat friendly. The seat width was problem for me on Batman, too. But I don't think they had a plus size row back then, so that's good to know! I'm definitely going to check out your other videos. Dollywood & Cedar Point are on my list of parks I'd LOVE to go to. Oh, & the TX heat is no joke! As much as I love rides, it's not fun for me if I have to walk on the surface of the sun to get to them.

    Nice to see copies of Pulsar popping up , It's truely a great ride so i'm glad more people will get to experience Mack's genius invention :) Unfortunately it looks extremely bland and stale compared to the original which was built on a lake and that's what makes it such a perfect addition to the park and adds to the experience so much and honestly it's an icon to my home park now :,) . I do hope if they build more copies they will do something about the aesthetics of the rides since i'm afraid it will take away from the experience too much and leave people dissapointed. It's a great experience but it would be a shame to see it become another copy paste ride they place everywhere

    Great Video, I have a similar problem on a few of those rides so I can sympathize. The populous is of a larger build these days and Six flags helps that with the fattening food that they serve. Six Flags is hurting in attendance.and people will not come thru the gates if they know that they can not enjoy the rides since they are larger so what Six flags needs to do is to get with the rides manufacturer and get them to adjust the restraints and rides so that larger people can ride so that Six Flags will be more attractive to visit. In your case you did not get any value for your trip and Six flags needs to be ashamed for that.

    How to say this without fat shaming…. Kudos for doing the research. Shame that you couldn’t enjoy all the rides. But, perhaps you might have suggested that not being able to go on some rides which accommodate the majority of people is a possible indicator to…. Exercise a bit more? Yes yes. Easier said than done. But in the end, if one can shed a few pounds, they’ll feel so much better! Thank you for posting this, however. It was informative.

    Some of them are so close. especially the over shoulder harnesses. I am not a big guy at all. 5'7 160lbs. But my fiance is bigger, mostly in the thigh and booty area, and we had an unfortunate trip to cedar point (it was a blast actually). There were a lot of rides she couldn't get on.....but it was always down to the little belt that hooks into the shoulder harness. Those things could be an inch longer and more people could ride. I am no coaster engineer but there were belts where I was like "oh come on. she isn't going to go anywhere if that belt was just an inch longer. WHY are they so short?I mean half of them the metal was touching the clasp....just couldn't push it in. The frsutrating one was millenium force. I understand rides that loop or twist or whatever. But something that the force of the ride actually keeps you in the seat need to have bigger belts.

  • @jmk4360

    @jmk4360

    Ай бұрын

    The seat belts between your legs are called minimum position indicators. Aka the tools ride crews use for checking if a restraint is open too far. All those seat belts are a specific length designated by the ride manufacturer. Modification of these indicators led to the Orlando Freefall drop tower accident. It’s frustrating that it’s so close but manufacturers like to keep a good safety factor as the restraints and seatbelts will naturally wear over time allowing more room until it’s replaced in routine maintenance. Rides that don’t go upside down are deceptive. Rides without inversions, especially big ones, focus more on negative vertical force, and lateral force which are the “dangerous forces” that can throw you from your seat if your not secured properly. Millennium Force is known for its long sustained negative g force.

    @@jmk4360 Thank you for the info. The crazy thing is she was able to ride Maverick just fine. It had a slightly longer belt that connects to the shoulder harness. I wonder why THAT one (which is crazy fun and intense) had the leeway...but Valraven, MF, ROUGAROU, she failed all of those and they had similar seats. All down to that little belt.

    Apparently Jason didn't know how significant this park is for large riders. He missed the (extremely fun) New Texas Giant, which is infamous for an obese woman being ejected from her seat and killed in 2019. Most of her torso/belly was not restrained & sat on top of the lap bar, which was down & locked properly, but only on top of her legs. This caused sweeping,, worldwide changes in how overweight riders are viewed & addressed on amusement rides. This tragedy initiated the usage of test seats, for instance, and increased usage of seat belts. Parks & ride operators developed & used new procedures on the dangers faced by large riders, ride entrance signage was altered. Respect for Jason doing this interesting video. With all due respect, however, the rides _did not_ "fail," Jason did. You've heard this before, but I was once nearly 100 pounds overweight. _Life is so much better,_ though I've got another 50 to go. _It is possible,_ you can do it! I'm a wood roller coaster hobbyist & don't worry about fitting on rides anymore. Matterhorn Bobsled was actually the first tubular steel roller coaster, built in 1959 at Disneyland. Still operates & is lots of fun. Runaway Mine Train (in this video) was built in 1966 & is a fun, jerky ride, one of several original rides to this park.
