I went to a nofx show alone once and I was really enjoying the show but I was just standing against the back wall and I guess it pissed off Fat Mike cause I wasn't moshing around or something? Plus I didn't look like a punk. Just normal everything. oh yeah, it was my hair I think. I had a haircut like Tony Sly lmao. It was really fucked up and part of why I was blending into the wall was just social awkwardness. When he called me out I just kind of panicked and didn't move, and after I left the show I kind of realized If I made any motion every single person around me would have gave me hell. It kinda sucked being gatekeeped by one of your favorite punk bands for not looking like the fucking clown from good charlotte.

@@dicktracy7996 I got a bible whipped at my head by a member of Pansy Division last year when I turned to a friend and said, "cool, now do Islam" when they did this cringe segment on "the dirtiest thing in your hotel room aren't the sheets, it's the bible!" and went on this anti-Christian rant while ripping pages out of the bible and pictures they had printed of homophobic (according to them) right wing politicians that weren't even in office anymore. I'm the son a of a lesbian pastor, mind you. They were one of my favorite punk bands for decades and I'd waited years and years to see them live. Completely ruined their music for me and I had to apologize to the 3 non-punk friends I brought out of second-hand embarrassment.

Greg’s guitar work from the Bad Religion catalog is so good, especially the guitar solo from I wanna conquer the world 🌎 it’s definitely a shame they kicked him out of the band for his pain killer addiction. I 100% feel his pain. My heroin addiction started from a long term prescription to pain killers from being severely injured. Thankfully got into methadone program and it saved my life. Unfortunately I found my older brother dead 2/13/21 from fentanyl overdose in his apartment. I don’t wish that pain on anyone

  • @ASM881

I can answer these questions. 1) Mike did Punk Voter not Jello. 2) The point was to put out awesome Punk, Ska and Reggae Music from the people who love it for the people who love it. 3) Music changes. Epitaph has to change to keep up with the times and to continue to make money. If you like Epitaph from the Rancid, Pennywise and NOFX days circa 1994, then listen to those records. Don’t blame Mr. Brett for keeping on top of what the kids are into.

I've never gotten Fentanyl addiction, is that more of a follow on from heroin where you're just sating the phyiscal dependence on opiates rather than getting high? Fentanyl always seemed to have a crap high (so I have heard having definitely never done it) though in general synthetic opiates seem to have more variable effects from person to person (according to a person I know, as have never done any) Anyway, good luck, addiction can always be conquered. @@misterm5325 saw BR a few months back and they KICKED ASS even without Heston and Wackerman. Yeah it sucks that they are gone but they can at least still make consistently good records unlike NOFX and EVERY other old punk band still making albums today. Changing the name to “Greg Graffin & Friends” wont change the bands great dynamic at all. And if they are a nostalgia act then I guess EVERY old punk band just had no merit anymore.

@@misterm5325 BR dipping in quality by the 2010s was inevitable, but I still find their newer stuff to be unmatched in the genre (or loosely affiliated genres). Maybe you meant something else by "identity". And if it's unrelated to music, it's not worth the name change.

I fell off after Stranger Than Fiction. IMO they peaked at Against the Grain, then their next few albums were a slide down in quality. I haven’t followed them in decades at this point and it’s funny to see people now talking about BR being on the decline since 2013. Just puts in perspective how long this band has hung around.

@@booooo-urns you missed out for sure. I admit Generator and Recipe for Hate are very mediocre records cause the band were still experimenting with their new “mainstream” sound. By Stranger Than Fiction they had made a truly great record that was different and didn’t have to be like Against the Grain. Even though Brett left after that The Gray Race was just as good and imo is criminally underrated. Sucks that most people didn’t even give that record a chance and just walked off on the band.

Nobody has to care for the music NOFX/Fat Mike has put out over the years and even I will be the first to raise my hand and say that I'm not exactly the biggest NOFX fan in the world, but you can't deny that they are about as punk rock as it gets and have continued to be so all throughout their career(whatever being punk rock even means).

hey man, i don't know if you remember me (from the San Mateo scene 20-21 years ago), but we crossed paths a few times during those days. I have many fond memories of Mark from over the years. Last time i saw him we were both sitting in the handicapped section of Warfield during a Rancid / Cock Sparrer show. He had his busted leg, and i had a broken neck. This was maybe 2012, and i had to laugh cuz fuck, who could have seen this coming 10 years prior. Anyway, just thought i'd say hi and share a good memory of Mark cuz who knows if someone else might come across this who also has some rad memories with him.

I used to lend my ID to my friend. She wasn't 21 and I was. We looked enough alike, had the same coloring, similar build and it worked. She'd go into the bar, show my ID, hang out for awhile, then leave and get a hand stamp. We'd meet up around the corner and she'd give me back my ID and I'd go into the club. It worked for nearly a year until the band's manager ratted us out. We got even with him by sending him some cat sh** anonymously. I saw the Circle Jerks in 81. That's how old I am. I was in the punk scene starting in 1981
