Mike also tells Stryker that labels are still important and that he's starting a new label, which will be all about songs.

Interesting. I agree labels are still important but they definitely are less so. So many musicians now can make at least a modest living independently. Streaming, for hire, or via upload sites etc, the internet has definitely done a lot for single musicians. Leveled the playing field a bit. That said, the band I was in def accomplished a lot more once we were on a well known street punk label - got to tour more, bigger shows, opening for bigger headliners and later headlining ourselves. This was before the 08' or so, label caved, and the band actually got bigger and more popular after, and I always wonder what the modern, internet-fueled industry would be like.

That's exactly why artists are avoiding labels like the plague today. They liken themselves to "taste makers," but they're largely just gatekeepers... and poor ones at that. I've been on both sides of that coin during my career and I always found more money and success (both in sales and tours) running indy.

Offspring Smash led me to Pennywise About Time, the punk o rama comps, and my punk rock friends I made at school got me into Lagwagon and NOFX so fatwreck came along perfectly .... Survival of the Fattest FO LYFE!!!!!! $3.99 AND NOT A PENNY MORE on the back of the CD lol back when comps were usually cooler than actual albums and u could buy it with saving a couple days lunch money, then skate to the mall n buy a new comp CD. Listening to punk mixtapes on my cassette walkman while skating ❤️ those was the days man, lemme tell ya. We used to bring all our mixtapes we made and listen to each other's, and then use those to make even BETTER mixtapes. It was a good time. And if one of us bought a tape/CD, we all had that album or comp !!!!!! Back when the internet didn't show you new bands, had to go by word of mouth or compilations or opening acts on tour. I wish I could go back to when nothing mattered except my friends, my skateboard, and trying to put girls boobs in my mouth for the first time ever 🤣

Him and Chris would argue the entire time.... Because Chris Hannah HAS to prove he's the biggest liberal genius in the entire world, and that he's NEVER wrong, that his opinions should be considered facts, and he's have to talk Abt animal cruelty for at least 33% of the podcast. There That's prop coming on. Cuz Chris takes over their interviews. Well, their bassist talks a little bit. But Jordy and Sulynn don't really talk much unless it's about them writing music lol, which is cool. But yeah dudes it would just turn into Mike vs Chris arguments. Sorry to spoil the fun.

Funny, while Good Riddance were not the most stellar musicians... of all the bands he listed I think they are the only ones that never put out a weak record, they also were possibly the best live show. I'm curious why, despite the pride taken in Propaghandi and Strung Out, Fat seemed to ignore a large portion the "Skate Core" type bands. Belvedere, Mute, Wilhelm Scream just to name a few. Just curious to hear how some truely great bands never did get picked up by Fat.

For me, it's hard to listen to an album, and most of the albums I do love took a few months to really sink in. Usually I just really enjoy the first four or five songs from an album and then the rest just doesn't do anything for me, or just a few songs from an album do it for me. I'm definitely more of a song lover than an album lover.
