Mike, if you're reading this, you look good. There's a light emanating from your face, and we can tell you're all here. I'm struggling with sobriety, too, and think of you often in my own journey -- without you knowing it, I've passed the years with you in good times and bad. It's time to break the thread to the booze; I'll keep the NOFX. We can do this. You've been one of my heroes for 30 years.

You guys can do it! It’s takes some mettle, you just change your mindset over time. 5 years off the booze for me now and at one point, I too thought there was no way out. Be strong lads, drink loads of water and take up a new hobby to keep you focused. This worked for me after years of trying loads of techniques and therapy, I realised it was a case of literally changing your mind.

I like that he's taking a period of sobriety but not ruling out future partying. People who are hung up on never partying again just don't get it. Like Mike said being "sober" is being in control, not being free from substances. I like Mike when he parties, and I like this Mike. I also appreciated how he complimented the interviewer at the end "good interview", as someone who has worked in media I appreciated that.

I guess I’m one of those few who are hung up on never partying again. I’m an addict and have been whether I knew it or not for most of my adult life. I used to take breaks and have periods of “sobriety” when I didn’t use but the truth is that every time I thought I could go back and just use moderately I ended up worse than I was before I got sober. Sure sometimes it took a little while but usually it was almost instantaneous. It wasn’t until I accepted and admitted that I had a problem that I finally started to maintain remission from addiction. These days I fully grasp the fact that the only way for me to maintain control of my life is to not use substances. Only time will tell if Mike can control his use or if he, like millions of other people in this world, is an addict suffering from the chronic disease of substance abuse disorder.

What a great interview and its good seeing him stay sober. I'm a punk fan trying to get sober and stay sober myself. I live in Hanoi Vietnam in South East Asia and here its not easy being an old punk or trying to stay off alcohol. Its cool to hear about the Punk Rock Museum not being eltist and allowing any band who has played a gig in. There is a huge punk scene over here that I actually help promote and it would be cool to see some of the bands from over here get in and spread the word about the unknown to the West scene over here in Asia. People would be amazed at the quality of the bands and the wild shows that happen over here in both the metal and punk scene.

@@matthewcordock7123 I think the difference is, mike actually believes that he’s not an addict. Smelly didn’t particularly want to face it but the band gave him an ultimatum and he changed his life. Mike doesn’t have to do it all day every day so I think he convinces himself that it’s not the same. But most Addicts think they aren’t addicts. But, also, if you aren’t actually an addict you would also think you aren’t an addict. That’s where it’s tricky.

Honestly, I really WANTED to like the new record. I wanted to like First Ditch Effort and Coaster too. The reality is though that it's been 15 years since the last good NOFX record came out. I don't know if it's me having "matured" too much or Fat Mike just getting too cozy in his dungeon. Probably a bit of both, I guess.

@@nickjackson8973 Yeah I do actually. I still go to shows 4,5 times a year. Certainly not as much as I used to when I was a kid but I still enjoy it just as much. But I do think NOFX lost their bite and turned into a vehicle for Fat Mike's agonizing self portrayal.
