Because the companies that made them called them hoverboards so I guess they're hoverboards. Also since nobody wants to read my comment that I posted a couple of days ago I have to explain again. Another definition of hover is to remain in one place or position. And while your standing on the board, you're remaining in one place and position while the board moves.

+VyPlayz | Revamping :) Actually its not completely your body weight, it has in total 2 different sides that twist when you move your feet and or lean forward/backwards, and depending on how far ahead/how much twist you give the pedals the faster/the slower it goes, hope you understand what I tried to make sense of since I just did it out of what I have seen. :)
