Fastpacking in Slovenia's Triglav National Park - JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE
Спорт
In August of 2023, we spent two weeks in Slovenia while in Europe for the summer. This gave us an opportunity to fastpack a section of the Slovenia Mountain Trail, traversing Triglav National Park and summiting Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the country.

This might be your best video to date! Awesome! 🙏
One thumbs up definitely is not enough for this cinematic masterpiece. Thanks for taking me along.
Is it just me, sitting here with pop-corn enjoying this like it's the new hit from hollywood?

Jeff, Audrée - thank you so much for what you do. You inspire thousands of people with your amazing content. Including me. I am clawing my way back to running, after having to pause for 5 years. I did run an Ultra (60km) before and now i am back to being happy about 30 km/week. You inspire me to keep going, even though my goals seem so far away right now. With every videoi see, i tell myself that i am gonna run those amazing trails myself one day. so again, thank you.
Wouldn’t be a Jeff Pelletier film without the most stunning scenery on earth 😅. Very cool adventure you documented here

What a great adventure from both of you and very nicely staged. Great movie Jeff and Audree
What are you doing, Jeff?!? Exposing my largely hidden paradise in Europe...
Love your videos, Jeff! I watch them while I slowly churn away the meters on my indoor rower and they provide a welcome distraction from the repetitive nature of rowing. The scenery is breathtaking and your cinematography really brings these exotic locations to life. Keep up the good work and thanks!
Sublime content. Every single time. That refuge sunrise worth the price of admission alone.

Thanks so much for the support as always!
Amazing run and total awe for the way you have been able to capture this impressive mountain ridges and views in what you call a 'technical' trail terrain which I found sometimes scary to watch just sitting in my chair. Wonderful !
Thanks a lot for the video, sooo mindblowing, I have to go there. Greetings from Berner Oberland.
Vertigo kicking in just from watching. Insane views
What an amazing video, thank you for ever increasing our bucket list of things to do, a real treat to watch your videos, bravo
Dear Jeff and Audree, thank you kindly for a beautiful presentation of our country, specially the Triglav national park. As a Slovenian hiker/trail runner/ski moutaineer I feel very blessed to live in such a magnificent place. You are welcome to revisit any time. Maybe Kamnik-Savinja Alps or river Soča Valley. Our mountain traverse No. 1 navigates through those parts too. BTW did you guys get the official butt-spanking on the top of Triglav? We do it also to foreigners and they are all interested 🙃

Haha we didn’t date but now I’m having some regrets. Guess we’ll have to go back to get “baptized”
Brilliant film, Jeff. Slovenia is very high on my future destinatin list and this just confirms that.
Just awesome Jeff and Audrey! I visited Slovenia almost 20 years ago for a friend’s wedding, sadly climbing Triglav wasn’t on the itinerary but we did manage to drive around the Alps, eat bratwurst and sauerkraut (!) and spend time at Lake Bled. Seeing all these trails, and knowing there’s a massive thru hike just waiting there really has me hankering to go back one day… another addition to the bucket list *I’m never going to financially recover from this* 😂
Such a marvellous film. I watched this with my parents who loved it too and now understand my passion for trail running. Thank you for sharing your work
i'm running the 120k Julian Alps Trail from UTMB in september, after seeing this i'm definitely climbing the Triglav summit after the race !!

Watching these video's is bad for me because I wanna do everything in every single one of these video's just looks and sounds like a dream!!! can't wait to see your next adventure
Amazing filmwork, content. Before the climbing I was like "be nice to run there", the journey to the 1st hut changed that, I'll vicariously enjoy it through you guys.

Welcome to our neck of the woods. Glad you've enjoyed it. The film is a masterpiece 🙏
Another great video! Thanks for all the effort you two have been putting into the making of it. Watching it was really a nice event that started this weekend. 🙏

Epic, you guys!! And a super-eclectic and well chosen soundtrack..
This is brilliant Jeff! My partner and I loved watching you guys fast pack in the Julian alps - excellent production as always 🎉
This is the 1st of your videos that I've watched but it won't be the last. Absolutely stunning, thank you
Nice to see you guys enjoying my home country, if only we could meet to run in the Julian Alps together. Great film as always! :) PS: If you decide to do the Slovenian mountain trail, contact me. ;)
Wonderful video 🎉❤. Thanks so much for the running, scenery and descriptions of the places you stay and what you are eating and drinking on the way. Awesome 🙌
Wonderful video! Thanks for visiting my homeland and glad you liked it! I’m actually doing your route this summer just at a much slower pace😅
Wow, only 9 minutes in but already blown away. thank you for another amazing adventure. Adding this to the bucket list! Audrée saying “don’t show this to my mom, ok”. Definitely had me going as it’s so relatable. Love your content guys!

so cool to see the pride in reaching the highest peak of Slovenia for all the citizens. i always wonder how many people in the region climb a highest peak, most frequently for me Mt Washington in NH. i imagine that number is very high in Slovenia!
Wow, what a film, again! Thanx Audrey and Jeff 🤗
Another outstanding video by Jeff. Keep on traveling & posting as you take your viewers along for the journey. Thanks Jeff
Merci beaucoup! Trail Candy for the eyes and the mind! Beautifully edited. Have a pleasant summer Jeff and Audrée. Wishes to Jeff's KZread followers as well.

Such epic views you've captured! What an adventure.
Thank you ❤ I am running the Triglav Trail in August 2024 if everything goes all right fingers crossed.
Beautifully done.
Great video. You should check out Slovakia next!
Oh adding this to my long list of places to hike, just need to find a partner to do it with 😅
Fantastic. I signed up for a race a couple of days ago in the Triglav National Park at the end of August, this was a great preview of what to expect, and very helpful, but above all, at the perfect time! Keep it up Jeff and Audrée, you guys are super inspiring!
Amazing terrain there, just mind blowing. My mom was born in Slovenia in a small village west of Ljubljana. One day I’ll get there and I’ll put Triglav summit on my agenda, for sure!
Amazing nature, amazing video editing and beautiful music 🌸
what a beautiful place 😍
I've run a lot in Slovenia (including the trails in your video) and have struggled with the water issue too. There really is no water up high at all. I find Gaia is quite reliable for marking water sources in general. I have a memory of being so dehydrated and desperate running back into Bovec off the top of Rombon - there's a water fountain in the village that I think I pretty much dived into.
Absolutely amazing as always. This place looks incredible. I’m looking up plane tickets hahaha….. seriously tho I’m looking

What a nice surprise. Exactly two weeks ago I booked my train ticket to Maribor to hike the Slovenia mountain trail in August. Your video increased my stoke for that adventure even more, but also showed me that I will definitely pack a via ferrata set:) and thumbs up for the Cockta Cola. I really enjoyed this one!

Simply beautiful - just added to bucket list!
Thank you, another wonderful film and adventure!
LOVED this film and thanks for introducing me to the Julian Alps! I'd heard of them for years, but had allowed the western European Alps to over shadow them, my mistake! @JeffPelletier if you run one of your group run/hikes, sign me up! :-D Also, did you see any rock climbers during your traverse? Though much of the rock looked friable, I would think that like the Dolomites, there would still be some solid walls and thus climbing ;-)
unbelievable video, just amazing!
Another great film
This was wonderful thankyou Jeff and Audree! It sort of feels like the Italian alps?

@JeffPelletier

Not this year, but hopefully one day again soon!
It may be the only national park, but there are also 4 regional parks, and plenty of natural parks in Slovenia. And all together 37% of the surface is Slovenia is protected nature. Considering also that forests are covering 60% of the state and forest management in Slovenia is sustainable. As such, you can basically say that whole Slovenia is a large natural park.

yes! we were delighted to see that Slovenia is so GREEN!
Phenomenal work yet again, your talent far exceeds your current reach, I'm sharing far and wide to be sure you get more of the credit you deserve. If you happen to have a link to the GPX you used for this route, please do share! Thank you again.
Slovenija❤❤
Jeff and Audrey, Well done on providing another beautiful narated and filmed adventure. I was curious about the specific time of the year like, month and days of the month this adventure was? I am sorry if you shared it. Maybe include it in the notes. Well done!

In the territory of the Triglav National Park, individual brown bears are occasionally spotted on the Pokljuka plateau, in the Lower Bohinj Mountains, the Trenta Valley and the area of Tolmin. But they have hardly ever posed a real threat to hikers/runners.

Looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the Inspiration! How did Audrée get her helmet fixated on the Salomon Adv Skin? I am still seeking a way to fix the helmet so it does not bounce when running.

I just used the helmet strap and tightened it around my pack. The buckle was a bit annoying at first but I quickly forgot about it.
Interested in the conversation about tools/resources in finding water on your route here. I know you mentioned a couple here like Gaia and FatMap but I'm curious if Guthook is also well documented out there? I know for the long trails here in the states they are a lot of people's go-to for water source beta. It does I think open up a larger conversation on the problems that come with competing platforms having conflicting/missing information. I'd be curious if park systems might be able to find a way to aggregate that data centrally so that a single source could be referenced more reliably. Of course excellent documentation of your trip here and amazing landscape. Another for the bucketlist!
@audreelafreniere2258
17 күн бұрын
good question for sure. I'm not familiar with Guthook but will look into it. It's not perfect but I think sometimes using multiple sources at once is the only way to cover all our bases unfortunately.

There are so many great trekking routes in Europe suitable for fastpacking. Consider a section of the GR11 in the Pyrenees, the Haute Route in Switzerland, the Tour du Mont Blanc, etc. I’d recommend starting with one or two nights to gain some experience with gear and logistics, before moving on to longer adventures.
