    Crazy to think I was about to type out that the SMX can live at 4500 HP. And then trying to wrap my head around a car that can street drive at 1100HP and flip a tune and make 4500hp. Absolute crazy world we live in.

    its able to do that cause Cleetus has same engine and the intake has a total of 3 injectors per cylinder. 1 injector for pump gas for street driving and idleing, other 2 are for meth/alcohol to for strip runs.

    @@thetruthspeaker1978 Decades ago when I was street/strip I so wanted to turbo I hunted one down, wanted it on my big cube SBF. I was good with wrenches but smart enough I always had a builder. He shut me down no questions asked after he explained the limits on having one for street and strip-which I needed due to hustling runs off the tracks. If I were 40 years younger today, my smile would be frozen from the top of one ear to the top of the other ear. And I'm actually glad I stayed away from the vids and tech on turbos until a couple of years ago when everything is just about where it's able to go, and pick up the info now. Even back then it wasn't even imaginable what's the norm for big money builders and buyers today-take a 2hp per cube and turn it into a 6.5hp per cube, then back to 2hp and street driven.

I know Calvo is working on a billet V10 block so that will be interesting to see and with Nth Moto in the high 6's with the V10 platform, I'm hoping to see this car run in the mid 6's if not lower. :)

    Given the bore size and current geometry on the billet v10 block it comes down to available heads to make it really perform. It only took Steve 2 years to engineer, develop and put into service the SMX heads. Everything takes time to implement, and sure he's gained a whole new perspective on performance with the SMX and the ( SML , More than a year currently) and thats valuable towards new projects like the v10 motor. What it will come down to is being able to say it's a v10 viper billet motor that might get somewhat close to the power output of the SMX but I doubt it'll come anywhere near the performance level of the SMX. But. It will be made more reliable than the old castings. In the end they can say yep, its a v10 viper lol.

    The viper would need a straight rear axle to fully utilize 3000+hp. Yes it is a bit doable with a IRS, but it won't be optimal. Plus if they are already chopping up this car like this and putting a V8 on it, then might as well give it a straight axle.

    Steve Morris recently dyno'ed one of the SMX engines, it was his old wagon engine, Now raced by Cleetus McFarland in the Mullet Elcamino. it dyno'ed at 1080 I think with no turbos hooked up. the test wasn't specifically to see the numbers, but to check if he got the Bypass on the oil pump working properly before returning back to Cleetus. So your 1k with 3 pounds of boost, is consistent with what the SMX build is capable of. Just so you know, the build in this viper is probably similar (but not sure) to the Tom bailey Sick seconds 2.0 at 540 Cu In (only with i think a procharger), where the one cleetus runs is a 565 cu in setup

    I've never seen someone get so "dressed up" only to go nowhere. I know there has been dyno accidents but, has anyone seen one so explosive or violent that the "driver" has to put on all gear? If so and if on you tube, please give link.

    The viper would need a straight rear axle to fully utilize 3000+hp. Yes it is a bit doable with a IRS, but it won't be optimal. Plus if they are already chopping up this car like this and putting a V8 on it, then might as well give it a straight axle.

    That used to bother me thinking the zoomies were stronger, till Murder Nova lost a bullhorn and almost wrecked the newer car due to the shift in downforce. Seeing the change in real time (Car literally got up on two wheels) sort of stopped that argument

    @@glennverdeyen5685, There is a reason on TF and TA dragsters as well as TF and TA funnycars they turn the pipes up, That is downforce. A TF dragster can generate over 2000 pounds of downforce (more than the dragster weighs) alone, that downforce along with the spoilers fore and aft help plant the 10,000 horsepower these monsters generate. In NPK racing the Nitrous, NA 9rare) and the supercharged cars use the same type of Zoomie headers while the turbo cars use a single pipe coming out the side of the body. Some people (me included) thought the zoomie style being more direct (not through a turbo), would generate more downforce, Like i said i used to think this way, but the test run Murder Nova did where he lost the right side bullhorn (pass side) the downforce from the left side pushed the car so hard it got up on two wheels. meaning there was a lot, maybe not as much as zoomies, but lots of downforce to use. BTW yes the 3-5K (estimated)HP NPK cars won't generate 2k pounds of downforce, but whatever they can can be used very well with a properly designed exhaust.

    @@crazylarryjr Thank you for the quick tour of dragracing exhaust downforce. But other then downforce they don't restict or increase power? And why the zoomies over a bull horn? Is what I'm really after

  • @crazylarryjr

    @crazylarryjr

    @@glennverdeyen5685, first off zoomies are simple easy to repair and a straight shot, secondly if everything was into a single pipe you have to time them so they don't interfere with each other, two exhaust charges hitting simultaneously. can disrupt the flow, so like with the intake, individual runners is best, the bigger the better in this case, the reason turbo's can't do zoomies, is the turbo is exhause driven the combined force of one side (twin turbo) or both sides (single turbo) drive the power adder. BTW those aren't true zoomies, they are run to 8 pipes, but not a true zoomie
